Thank you Krisa, I am sorry for your loss. You can do this too! Go around to family members close to the person who has passed and ask for ONE story that stands out to them. People will naturally give you either a funny story or a heart warming tale. Make statements about your loved one and reinforce those statements with stories from your family. People like being recognized. We are all at funerals for ourselves because our loved ones are up above smiling down during these hard times.

Grandpa and grandma and the family must have been so proud of you. Grandpa sounded like a great guy. What a good speach! First time I hear laughter in a funeral, and it feels good. In such a hard time, laughter with family can help the ache go away for a little while and remind people of good times and that they're in it together. Have no idea how to write my speach to my loved one today. No way em I up to this task, even talking in last term seems so wrong, too soon. His family, I fear it won't be how they would want it. And I want him to like it. I feel I can't. Overwhelming. I want to, but I don't know how, where to start, What's expected to share and not. Long or short.. Time goes by, haven't written anything yet..

When I was given the task to give a eulogy in my mother's Church service as she laid at rest, I had a blank page in my brain, OMG, how am I going to do this? I had never done one before. I was told, think of how your mother made you on what you are today. Two days later and many hours later I refined it with the help of my greatest partner, my loving wife. And I will share this personal information with you just to give you an idea and a guide that will help you if you ever are given the task to speak before family and friends about remembering a loved family member. Maria de la luz Madrigal / was my mother. // And when I think of her / the word “sanctuary” comes to mind. I say this because she was my Tower of Protection. // In her castle, everyone was made to feel like royalty / safe and well taken care of. Her joy was her family. / She took great pleasure and pride in taking care of Dad and her four children. / Mom had many friends and she was loved by all because they could always count on her in good times and especially in times of need. She was always my Guardian Angel. / I remember her taking me to my very first day of school. I was starting Kindergarten at Franklin Elementary, near the old Tiger Stadium. Up to that time, I had been under her watch and care 24/7 / and, now, I had to go into the world and spread my wings - the thought terrified me. I didn’t want to let go of her hand / but she lovingly comforted me / and convinced me everything would be okay. That was my first step in learning to be independent. The day I started High School, she took me to the Credit Union and taught me to open a savings account in my name. She then told me all the money earned from my summer job would be deposited into the account. And I was only to receive a small allowance - just enough to get by for necessary expenses. Upon graduation, I had a hefty amount in my savings. I was then - and only then - advised and encouraged to open a Checking Account affording full access to the money earned. What did I do with the money saved?? I was able to pay for my education, which then became my career through retirement. My mother’s early financial management lesson has been a guide throughout my life. I want to thank everyone for being with us today and allowing me this moment to Honor my mother. A loving Thank You to my sister Martha for all her time and effort to make sure Mom was taken care of till the very end / And of course, special thank you to my brother-in-law, Eloy, for his untiring support to Martha during these difficult years. MOM - thank you. I will always remember you - and I will always love you!!

Its not that we're ruthless people. Its because these things are really hard to do, to give a speech to when you're in such pain of losing someone. Thus, when giving an eulogy or telling funny anecdotes and good times alleviates some of the sorrow. But I'm sure they cried.
