@@amenazanzibarwalla Africa has some of the most amazing wildlife on the planet (imo). Glad to see that people there actually appreciate their African wildlife. Unfortunately in the US the only way we can see elephants, zebras, lions, giraffes, etc. is in a zoo, which is very sad because these animals don't belong in captivity, but that's another story.

My mom and I spent 3 weeks in Kenya in July and August of 1981 right before I started 8th grade. We were visiting my cousin who was in the Peace Corps teaching music at a Catholic girl's high school in Limuru. It was one of the defining periods of my life. The people we met, the wildlife we saw, and the experiences we had impacted my view of the world every day since. My one regret is that we didn't have a great camera with us, but we made the best of what we had. The main safari we took was to Masai Mara where we stayed along the Mara River during the wildebeest migration. We didn't see any elephants on that trip but did see vultures, water buffalo (definitely NOT the bison we have in America), crocodiles, hippos, giraffes, okapi, antelope, topi, lions, cheetahs, monkeys, and a leopard. It truly is a life-changing experience! Thank you for sharing your experiences with all of us and encouraging people to consider making this trip.

I have just found this video, Oh my goodness, how good is Kenya, Sheldrick Trust and Safari. We spend a lot of time in Kenya, Nairobi working with a charity, running resilient and leadership programs for children that live in Kibera, East Africa's largest urban slum. We have been to the elephant orphanage many times. It's such an incredible place and doing such important conservation work. We are back in Nairobi in March '23 and I am definitely going to check out flying out to the place where you visited where the older Elephant orphans are looked after, it looked incredible. As far as safari's go, life changing experiences. We have been to Nairobi National Park and did a quick day safari, which was incredible. We have also done many safari's in Tanzania also. My favourite is Tarangire National Park because of the Elephants. There are huge populations of them and it's spectacular. Elephants are absolutely my favourite animals too Raya!

Ok, I’m going to date myself here. I was in Kenya in 1991, 1992 and 1993 combining Tanzania with two of the three times in Kenya. On my 1993 trip, I wanted to make a trip to the Sheldrick Trust orphanage but didn’t go because the orphanage had no baby elephants! It was because everything and everybody that was an elephant was 100% thriving and no babies were in trouble. Speed ahead to now, June 2022. I’m leaving mid-July 2022 for a combined Tanzania/Kenya safari. I can only imagine the changes since 1993. I also have adopted an elephant through the Sheldrick Trust and hope to see her when I’m in Nairobi early August. I know that challenges are facing the Sheldrick Trust due to baby rescues, some of which have lost their mothers due to elephant/human conflicts. That’s why it’s important more than ever that the locals are educated on how to live with elephants and other wildlife. Sadly, back in 1991, 1992 and 1993 when I was in Kenya, the habitat for the wildlife even then was a huge problem and it continues today. Africa’s wildlife is worthy of protection, conservation and preservation. In between my East Africa trips, I have gone to South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe several times and this, too, is amazing. I saw wildlife not found in East Africa such as sable and roan antelopes, and of course the Africa bush is quite different. I love it all. The Africa bush is my sanctuary, my peace, and it’s where my heart is buried. The magical moments of my many times to Africa leaves me with the hope that these animals are here for many generations to enjoy as I have. And that animal/human conflicts become an unspoken relationship between man and beast. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention how much I miss the bush each and every day when I’m away from it. It literally has grabbed me and still holds tight after all these years.

I've not been on safari, but 6 years ago we were at Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago. They had a male lion. I was maybe a half mile away at another exhibit. The lion roared. I felt it as if I were next to it, and a chill went through me. When I got to the lion exhibit, I realized how far away I'd been and how loud it was. Many zoos in my life, but had never heard a lion roar in real life. I can imagine you felt something similar when you were that close to that male lion giving out a roar. Sheer terror? 😁😁

So Cute! Who doesn't love baby elephants? As I understand it, the typical gestation period for the mother elephant is 18-22 months. Imagine being pregnant for almost two years. Another benefit of raising elephants in a shelter is that you can make handmade paper from their poop. Since elephants eat mostly hay, their feces are rich in fiber, which can be "harvested" and turned into paper pulp. And they are very prolific.

I went to a safari in Kenya circa the 2010s, cannot even compare it to anything. I know it's a privilege but if you have the means to travel abroad, it should be a priority rather than a luxurious place. People are so friendly and you'll have a great vacation. I'm hoping to go back next year to live there for a year at a monkey rehabilitation center *fingers crossed* And I believe Sammy was our tour guide as well!!! P.S. Safaris are not dangerous... I don't know who started that rumour :D

Hi there. Lived in Kenya for 3 years during my childhood. Loved every minute. So many sweet memories. Forgotten all my swahili though. Enjoy. Looked like it was great fun. Enjoying all your videos. Fun and intimate rather than just another travel blog

Loved this Rays and Louis. I had always dreamt of visiting a safari in Africa but was too anxious to fly so far, I live in Brighton, England but in 2013 I booked a holiday to South Africa and Swaziland and visited a few different safaris and to this day it was the best experience of my life and I can’t wait to return.

As Kenyans, we kinda take these things for granted, nice to see other people appreciate them. Next time you should do a video on the Mara crossing. there is a nice place called olonana in Masai mara just next to where all the action is.
