Great list! We have several in common: Fitz, Samwise, Logen Ninefingers, Roland Deschain, Glokta, Tyrion, Rand, Vin, Kaladin, Mat Cauthon

Great list. Samwise and Tyrion definitely made the top 15. I like the pick of Mat Cauthon. He became a solid favourite by the end of the series.

Yes, I love Mat's arc. I hated both him and Nynaeve at first but loved them both by the end.

Great list, Dan! A lot of these, from the books I've read, would be on my list as well! Death is definitely a favourite of mine as well!

Thanks Theo. You need to read Wheel of time though. Especially since you love Licanius.

Great list Dan! Your description of #2 got me jazzed up and I completely agree with your defenses of #5. I'd have to think about my top ten...

Great list Dan! Glokta and Dresden are definitely two of my favorites. Haplo from the Death Gate Cycle is another one.

Thank you Chas. Ya I saw Haplo on a lot of other booktubers lists as well.

Gotta love Haplo, he's cool and calculating even when he's naive and arrogant, then it's a joy to see him slowly challenge his prejudices over seven books.

Having not read most of these series - though I love Gandalf and Dumbledore and Rand is alright, though still gaining much needed maturity after 5 books - my list looks different then most. Only one character per setting: 10. Ofelia - Pan's Labyrinth - the movie's great but I think the novelization is even better, especially for getting into her head: How to be disobedient and loyal at the same time. 9. Ser Duncan the Tall - Knight of the Seven Kingdoms - I actually haven't read the other SoIaF books, but I love low born nobility characters like him showing them all how it's done, (and also because I didn't pick Sturm Brightblade lower down) 8. Ged/Sparrowhawk - the Wizard of Earthsea - only read the first book, but I his found humility and courage inspiring. 7. Gabriel Knight - Sins of the Fathers - My only detective ATM (we'll see if Harry D. can rival), the Novelizations of this game series was actually very good, and his growth of moving from self obsessed hedonist to monastic hunter of evil gets me in the feels, but I could easily also claim is partner, Grace Nakamura. 6. Lyra Belacqua - A wonderfully passionate trickster archetype, we don't often see the virtuous liar. 5. Bastian Balthazar Bux - the Neverending Story. ...be careful what you wish for...especially if you don't like yourself. 4. Mowgli - the Jungle Books - My Tarzan. Not too complex, but he emotes so deeply, being caught between two worlds hurts! Even a clever jungle god. 3. Haplo - the Death Gate Cycle - the perils of nursing your well-earned hatred and choosing the right found family. 2. Caramon Majere - Dragonlance Legends - I'm claiming the "twin clause" so that I get to throw in Raistlin Majere also :D - ultimately they both become their own person, but as much as I pity/love them both, I respect "caring man" more in the end. 1. Bilbo Baggins :) I'm surprised to say he means more to me then any of the Fellowship - and his spirit was there through most of LotR I reckon, when he wasn't physically. The OG inspiration. The Poet. The Adventurer Burhobbit.

Wow thank you for sharing this list. So glad you did. Some amazing characters on here from books I’ve yet to read. Love your list. Bilbo is a great pick for number one, gotta love the old boy.

I'm super glad you included Vin on your list. She is my favorite female character from Fantasy. HIs development and his willpower to protect others are unforgettable.
