I surprised Crystal for her birthday and just started driving up I-75. The destination was two charming beach towns on the Gulf coast. They're small and don't get the attention like Siesta Key, St. Pete Beach or Fort Myers Beach get.
I'm talking about Nokomis Beach, located on Casey Key, and Venice Beach. The two beaches are very different and are dividend by the stunning Venice Inlet.
They say Venice Beach is famous for finding sharks teeth, and it might be. But we found two on Nokomis beach, on the north jetty.
We definitely recommend a stop at Pop's Sunset Set Grill on the intercoastal water way. It's located behind the marina just before you of over the little bridge to Nokomis Beach. Food was great, they had live music and just watching the boats to back really makes you feel like you're on island time.
We explored both sides of Venice Inlet. Both side had a had little beach bars that served some easy food and cold drinks.
For boaters, you have to check out Snake Island. Snake Island is located inside the inlet. It's a small little island surrounded by white sand that's easy to beach your boat on. Looks like a classic florida sand bar island and we really want to bring our Crystal Blu up to this area to check it out!
