Thanks a lot for this vid, I wouldn't find MainType without it (which is ridiculous given how good it is). I'm now trying to decide on buying either MainType or Fontexplorer X Pro. Both are one-time payment. +50k fonts here 😬

I enjoy with how much love you talk about the software and fonts ☺ I just learned that I bought a sketchy font pack - how could Main Type help with uninstalling them? Can I make a Folder in MainType, load all the fonts and uninstall them at once?
@PhotohackLovers3 жыл бұрын
The beauty of a font manager is that, the font manager "manages your fonts" they are not installed on your system taking up precious hard drive space, memory ect". In the video I explain how your fonts are stored on an exsternal drive how to set this up ect, and you "use the font manager to activate a font only when needed" thus keep your fonts organized and at the same time saving space on your computer. You probably installed the fonts on your computer you would need to uninstall them or watch my first video on reverting to the standard fonts that came with your computer. That is the whole point of using a font manager because some fonts are designed horribly and can crash your system especially the svg ones made with that crappy fontself maker tool.
@hsinvega3 жыл бұрын
should i move all of my fonts to a secondary hard drive like you explained in your 2019 font base folder before downloading this software? i want to only activate fonts when i am about to use them (i assume maintype can do this)
@PhotohackLovers3 жыл бұрын
Depends on how you want to organize, font managers have the ability to only organize your fonts based on the general terms like font family, script, serif sans, For me this doesn't work because I have to many fonts and I have specific labeling and projects that help me to organize internally in my mind what I'm looking for. You must come up with a system that's right for you. For me I find comfort saving my files on an external l hard drive and therefore I'm not slowing down my computer with over 25,000 activated, I only activate the fonts in my system in the font manager when needed and I have my fonts categorized in smaller folder that are design specific as to not bog down the font manager. for example I have font specific to every holiday and event, such as Christmas fonts, valentines fonts, Halloween fonts, These fonts would be much harder to find in a basic labeled system such as "serif" script" "sans" I plant to do a video on my font organization and why I chose that particular hierarchy.

Great video, thank you. Does MainType auto-classify the fonts into categories (eg serif, sans, script, etc)? I ask because 29k fonts would take forever to classify manually! You mentioned at one point "fixed" all of your fonts. Could you explain more about that; did you have fonts with problems or what did it do to help repair your fonts?
@PhotohackLovers2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, so there is the option to have the program auto classify, but in my experience some font designers do not classify their fonts properly and therefore dont really get classified. So personal preference of mine is to do manually sort them. In the video I show you the button to repair the fonts its a 1 click fix. Many Font creators on creative market are horrible and dont really know what they are doing they use fontself to make fonts and it creates really large massive font files that are slow and sometimes even corrupt. Many of the fonts aren't kerned properly and have many issues. In the video I explained exactly what it does. Though I have a horrible memory and cant remember off the top of my head.
@InspiredScience2 жыл бұрын
@@PhotohackLovers - I believe there is some confusion. I purchased this app strictly based on your reply that it does auto-classify; however, after spending hours with the tool, I can assure you that it does not auto-classify. Perhaps you were confused with the feature that groups based on names; for example, fonts with "Serif" in the name -vs- fonts with "Sans" in the name. This is merely a grouping that is of almost no benefit. In your reply here, you claim that you explain "exactly what it does". That is incorrect. You did not explain exactly what it does; you merely said that it fixes your fonts and that's a huge help. You also claimed that you showcased the button used; however, that is also incorrect. *I contacted MainType and they claimed their software does *not* fix fonts as you claim* . Perhaps you confused this with their registry-fix option, that removes fonts that are incorrected listed in the registry despite not being present? This has nothing to do with "fixing" typefaces in any way. This is a simple feature that is also accomplished by any registry cleaning tool. In regard to large fonts and kerning issues, your reply here concerns me. Bad kerning is unrelated to size and requires input/opinion to "fix" (it would require either copying from another typeface or calculating based on pair-combos). Larger fonts, again, have no relating to kerning issues. It's an issue with large charactersets above 8-bit acsii in the unicode space, which you can filter-out using utilities if you are concerned (however this is not something that MainType does, contrary to what you've mentioned). I hope you will correct your video or description so that it doesn't mislead others and no one else buys the software believing it will do something it doesn't, based on your video.

I downloaded it yesterday... it’s awesome...so the text files that didn’t load are corrupt ones? Can this be fixed? Or just delete...also it seem that I may have two different file types... which one does photoshop support? Open type font or true type font?
@PhotohackLovers3 жыл бұрын
@@sherrykalczynski8996 I use both depends on what im designing, Open type font is the new new and is more compatible across platforms also it was expanded to include over 65,000 additional characters it also prints well and displays well on screen, true type font is an older version created back in the 80s with less compatibility less additional characters however true type font is exactly what it means its true, more true meaning its better for print and if you are working with a lot of typography these fonts are also easier to install. I would suggest researching the topic for more detailed answer. Photoshop supports both types but if you have fonts with a lot of ligatures and additional characters id stick with the open type.
@PhotohackLovers3 жыл бұрын
@@sherrykalczynski8996 no dont delete your fonts if they didnt load it may be because you have duplicates or possibly corrupt, did you order the professional edition if so you can run the registry fixer its at the very top icon it looks like a computer with tools in front of it and its blue - if you have corupted fonts they will be in there, hit repair all.

Can I change format of the file, Like OTF to TTF ?
@PhotohackLovers3 жыл бұрын
So when you create fonts with their font creation software you can choose what format you would like to export. If you are organizing your fonts, Personally I only keep one set of fonts and thats otf because they are more universal and better for print however many people keep both when organizing fonts. Thats totally up to you. You can turn on and off the font type that best suits your needs. if you are looking to convert already made fonts, I know their font creation software does allow this but if you are just looking to organize your fonts im not sure but there are free converters online. cloudconvert.com/otf-to-ttf

Do you think Main Type is better than Nexus Font? To use Nexus I don't have to download the font on to my computer. They are all on my EHD. This really helps because I have a ton of fonts. Do you have to have the fonts on your computer for Main Type?
@PhotohackLovers2 жыл бұрын
I tried nexus and it didn't work for me, I had tried all the font managers, if you have a PC this is the only viable option, I have all of my fonts in an external hard drive I never put my fonts directly into my computer because it slows it down as I have way to many. I would definitely recommend this. pay attention to the tier you get because the professional version gives you the best deal.
