To everyone complaining that Kalakukko isn't a cake, the word cake doesn't necessarily mean a sweet cake as in 'kakku'. They have a thing in the UK called fish cake and I would call it 'kalapihvi' in finnish because its savoury and has potato and bread crumbs in it, but they call it cake.

have to tell you: Finland, every city has its own food, such as in Tampere isblack sausage,Savonlinna lörtsy. In addition, a variety of national dishes like Roast Karelia, Karelian pies, and so on. Also, the world-known fast-food chains are popular here too. Subway, burgers and such. There are also a lot of different kinds of fish that can not find anywhere else in the world. Muikku is one of them. Reindeer meat is eaten most in the north. In the south, Moose is quite common. fazer is the most famous chocolate maker. Panda comes second. We also have a national alcohols, such as koskenkorva

6:02 About those wooden cups (a.k.a. kuksa) you drank the coffee from: They have a very old tradition behind them. You shouldn't buy one for yourself, they are meant to be given as gifts to someone important to you. Although nowadays many people tend to buy those cups for themselves too because they don't know this old slowly fading tradition. Not the cheapest cups but they last practically forever. Edit: You actually explained it correctly in one of your other video. You guys seem to know a lot of Finland's culture :D

***** It's old travellers and rural workers dish. Basicly rhye bread with small fishes and bacon in it. It survives very well long times. In my area local women send them to their loved ones who fought in front lines along with letters etc because it doesn't go bad that easily... Now-a-days you sually eat with butter.

Teemu Väyrynen Finns forever obsessing about The War and sharing war stories no one else cares about, sigh. This is not specifically wartime food. This was originally just normal working man's food. I think you meant this food PRESERVES for long periods of time as in it doesn't go bad. Surviving refers to a living thing.

A W Slightly above the average European country. Gasoline and alcohol are a bit costly due to heavy taxation on them. Still I wouldn't change living in Lapland to any other place. We can keep the living costs down here by hunting, fishing and foraging berries/mushrooms. And those who own forest can get their wood to warm up house during winter.

NONONNONONONOOOO don't put the cognac in the coffeeeee! Aah, too late. No no, you take a sip of coffee and then a sip of cognac or vice versa! :) Another funny cultural difference I noticed was that you ate your pizza with your hands. Usually in Finland at a 'real' sit-down restaurant you eat with your utensils. :) Already your steak-style knife and fork indicate you should eat with them. But no biggie, it's not a faux-pas.
@jennifer13298 жыл бұрын
They had adapted in another way. Here in the States they could have shared one pizza; her toppings on one side and his on the other. In Finland everybody orders their own.
