It’s not the same… there’s no such thing as “white face” and there’s definitely not a history of “white face” being used in a grand level to make a mockery of white people.

Whoever wrote the script for this understood comedy and understood that life is way too short to take it so goddamn seriously. You can choose to be miserable or you can choose to laugh and spread joy. I choose to spread joy even in the worst of times. This movie and it's use of satire should be considered a work of art.

The people who claim this movie couldnt be made today are silly. Thats like saying Indiana Jones couldnt be made because it has nazis in it. Yes, RDJ is in blackface, but the movie makes him look stupid, and the actual black guy in the movie calls him out on his bullshit. RDJs character is making a mockery of certain types of hollywood actors. Just like Indiana Jones makes a mockery of Nazis. The only part of this movie that might actually major flack is the part about "Simple Jack". And yes i know there was some complaint about this movie when it came out, people who have never heard of the term media analysis. but it was never a big thing.
@Palxco7 күн бұрын
Yeah, the initial reading is that it's ripping on blackface, and it is, but in more of an internal hollywood commentary it's also ripping on "method actors" that think that being "in character" means they're allowed to treat fellow actors/crew like shit off-camera. Simple Jack was also a take on neurotypical people writing offensive neurodivergent characters but it was probably a bit too on the nose to really work as well. The "never go full r-word" rant got left out of non-extended cuts.
