3 years ago I bought 25 "Camelot" pelleted foxglove seeds (came in a small vial) that promised to bloom first year. At least 19 - as I remember - grew started in house under florescent lights March 5th (Maine). Hardened them off in my new 'recycled window greenhouse' we had just built the year before. They did indeed bloom first year! And every year since have seeded themselves right in the area they began. I saved stocks of seeds to dry (esp the dark pink!). ♥ My favorite flower to look out the kitchen window and see. Hard rain beat them down a bit this week tho...

What a lovely story behind a beautiful flower. If it wasn't for her keen gardener's eye rescuing the plant from the compost heap this variety would be lost to us. I love the ones with the speckles because the speckle "spray" varies so much from one flower to another.

@@GardeningatDouentza The foxglove used to grow great on the east coast when I was growing up. Plus being very popular in gardens when people were still close to their European roots. But due to global warming our east coast climate has changed to a more Mediterranean climate with wet winters/spring and very dry and no rain in the summer.... :(

I have Sutton's Apricot(flopped in storms last month) about 20 feet away from my Pam's Choice, I did not know the cross pollination by bees will create another hybrid, might not harvest the seeds now. I think my garden(South Kilkenny along the Suir river) is a little ahead of yours too, the main flowering stems only have a couple of flowers left, the side shoots are still flowering well though.

Thanks Rachel...this was an excellent video....I have Pam's Choice blooming in my garden right now. It is an eye catching plant and variety...thankyou to Pam for discovering it!! I wish I could put up a pic for you to see! My question is how long do you have to wait to harvest the seeds after the plant is done blooming? I always thought I had to wait until fall.
@GardeningatDouentza

How wonderful that you are also growing Pam's choice. It is a super foxglove. A general rule of thumb for collecting seed is to wait until the seed pot cracks open of its own accord. But you have to be quick because you can easily loose it. And, mark the plants with the best markings! You will have a lot of seed so you can choose to collect from the best plants and further refine the strain. Good luck.

Great video. Idk know why it showed up but so happy it did. I just purchased Pam's choice pelted seeds along with Apricot beauty, Pink Gin, and Camelot mix which is suppose to be a first year. Oh and poke a dot polly. I was going to start winter sowing them now. I live in the PNW zone 8b. I know they won't flower until spring or summer till next year 2024 but I want to get them going now. Am I wasting my time? If I start them in June or July then they will winter over this year and in spring of 2024 will they still flower? I've watched Jonny seeds where I bought them and they actually get many of these same varieties to flower first year buy putting in an over winter tunnel. I could have these everywhere. I wish they flowered all spring thru end of summer. Actually all year would be grand.😊 Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for your comment and I am happy to hear you love foxgloves as much as I do. If you want foxgloves flowering at different times of year then, yes, sow in winter. You will need to protect vulnerable seedlings over winter though. A June sowing will usually result in blooms the following May. Hope this answers your question

I sowed these last year, under the name Elsie Kelsey. They are just beginning to flower now and they are the most prolific bloom producing foxglove I have ever seen. I used to buy young foxglove plants from the store and though they would bloom the first year they only ever produced single stems from each plant. The Elsie kelsey however all have two to three bracts growing out of one plant. Is this normal for foxgloves? I hve so many in the garden now that you can't see anything else :')

I'm glad you're enjoying your 'Elsie Kelsey' foxglove. It sounds like a vigorous one. I have never grown it myself. It should be noted that, although similar in appearance to 'Pam's Choice', 'Elsie Kelsey' is a different variety.
