Today we look at some of the Best Free Plugins For Post Rock Guitar - My Guitar Setup. Even though I have many payed plugins like Bias FX etc. I tend to use some free plugins when I record and process guitar for my tracks. In this video we look at a little semi-ambient post rock cue that I'm working on. We talk about the whole recording chain from guitar - cable - audio interface... to plugins. In the video we are working in Bitwig Studio, but I also like working with guitars in Logic Pro X, because it has a great set of native plugins for guitar in the core package. I hope you will find this little sneak into my guitar setup useful for your own productions. Great video, just subbed! I'm trying to look at your gear but it doesnt seem to load up for my computer, what gibson guitar do you have?
@andytrung27205 жыл бұрын
Also, would it be possible to use a different guitar but still be able to reproduce the same sound that you hear if using the same plugins you use? Or does the way your guitar sound play a big role on how your guitar will sound on the DAW ? Thank you so much again for your knowledge!

Hi Andrew, I play on a Gibson Midtown Custom in this video. www.morningdewmedia.com/resources-for-music-production-and-video/ has much of my gear listed and also a video where I talk about the gear I use - kzbin.info/www/bejne/eaO3e5aeepWNgrM Thanks for asking!

With so much effects, the guitar is not too important. Well a source is always a source but I bet the sound wouldn’t be too different. But as soon as you start to reduce effects and go for a cleaner sound the guitar matters more and more. I love the rich and ”full bodied” tone of this semi-hollow guitar. I always make sure to use a good cable, good audio interface, and the best guitar you have in your arsenal. Thanks!

I cannot believe Google recommended you when I searched for a Post Rock guitar! Thank you for the video! Though I didn't find what I was looking for, now I'm more familliar with the plugins in Bitwig that can be used. By the way, it is pronounced as Mólot and means Hammer.

@@MattiasHolmgren Thank you. For now, I watched half of the videos from the Bitwig Tutorial. And gradually, I will finish it. As I had been using it for a while before the videos, I find a lot of familliar stuff. But in any video there is a specific and useful information I didn't know. So, thank you for the Tutorial. And I can understand what you say - that's the most important part. I'm also not a native speaker, so it is not annoying at all.

Nice video! But it would've been more helpful to listen to the sound of the guitar direct from the DAW while adding the effects, instead of through the mic.
@MattiasHolmgren5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah I know. I did have the sound coming from the DAW but there was major leakage from the mic ( due to the position) . Gonna switch the mic off for upcoming guitar vids. 😉☀️

Thank you very much for this inspiring video, Mattias! So much of lovely guitar sound! Oh, I feel the need to learn playing it again!) Especially on something like your nice Gibson) Have you used sampling for the Gibson shimmer track or what is it? Firstly I thought it's a reverb of some guitar notes, but then you're playing it live. Very nice effect! The fast bass-like guitar track also sounds so nice and energetic. Many our local rock bands in 80-90s tried and experimented with drum machines and all the electronic stuff and such fast guitar lines were quite usual, just remembered that :) Thanks for this video, Mattias! Have a wonderful and creative weekend!

Hi Alexey, happy to hear you enjoy this guitar fetish effect video. More is coming in this vein. Love lush reverbs with guitar. Yeah you can really do some amazing sound with this for the whole sound spectrum. Post rock rules! ;) This week is a lot of finishing songs. I also did tons of work on my Patreon channel so send out some monthly tracks from my epic back catalogue of tracks. Found some forgotten gems in there! Also started to write up on an old jazzy song I've had lying since 2010. Weather is grey but not that cold so it's been quite a nice week. Hope all is well over in Russia my friend! How's your music writing going? Or has the week been only work ?
@aclexvideo5 жыл бұрын
@@MattiasHolmgren Thank you so much, my friend! Indeed, there's something in post rock, although songs of russian bands in this here are a little bit too depressive =) Oh, nice, you have several projects going to finish this week, always a thrilling moment! Sometimes it's hard to consider thing finished, but it's so important, to put a period. I have too many unfinished projects myself, so yes, one day I'll revisit them, too!) All the luck to you new projects, especially those jazzy song, so interesting! I've taken a look at some harmonic idioms used in jazz recently, it sounds quite inspiring and unusual. Just need to resist to dive in jazz completely :) Hope you'll finish it soon! Weather is just fine here, very unusual for October and autumn, but it's so warm and sunny, about 18 °C at times! Now it's getting colder, so yes, it would obviously go grey soon as well. Perfect time for long working sessions! Oh, my music writing yes, it's suspended these recent weeks, shame on me :( A lot of little important tasks around the house after work, hope to return to the music in a week or too. Winter should save us :) There's also a little motivation moment, finished a vocal track, but couldn't make it to have female vocals for it, so obviously should start another one. So tough to write to many things unreleased) But yes, anyway, I should return to it finally :)

Master, one question. What can be done whit a naylon acoustic guitar recorded by mic?
@MattiasHolmgren5 жыл бұрын
What kind of mic are you using? The room you record in is half the sound. I use a TLM 102 Neumann condenser mic for acoustic, place it 6 inch from the 12th fret. Sometimes I mic a bit from above to get a more (lush / roomy) sound. Try to get the sound you are looking for (as close as you can get) before you start processing. In the DAW I use a compressor similar to a VC2A compressor, or just some stock compressor (or Molot comp like in this video). I don’t use too much reverb, I rather double track the acoustic and pan the tracks hard left / right to get a big sound. Maybe a touch of room reverb or delay depending on the track. That’s about it. I don’t overcomplicate it but rather keep things simple. The important factor is to get the initial recording right, sitting as close to center in the room as possible while recording and having the mic just right. I hope these tips get you going. I’m by no means a master, but I’ve been doing production for many years. Thanks for writing Renatto! Hope you have a nice evening!

Is ibanez Prestige azs2200 guitar with SH pickup suitable for rock post?
@MattiasHolmgren2 жыл бұрын
Hi Daniyal, in my opinion any guitar can work for post rock. Its more about what you play with them. 👌 Just make use of great amp / cabs (or simulations) and the best effects you can get. Vst effects are fint too. Valhalla Supermassive is free and adorable for post rock. Hope the info helps.🍉

Did you look for any guitar for yourself at the sale of David Gilmour? )
@MattiasHolmgren5 жыл бұрын
Hi! No I didn't, I'm really not in shopping spree for new gear at the moment. Was there a big sale for David Gilmour stuff? I just sold stuff and want to keep my setup minimal. It's better collecting Pokemons with my kids, they don't take up any real life space. haha. If I buy a new guitar it will probably only hang on the wall like some of the other guitars I have. haha. The only guitar I keep using these days is the Gibson Midtown Custom. I fell in love with the tone and look. 😋
