I've recently committed to using a Victory V4 tube preamp for direct recording, and I am left wondering why Biasfx2 removed the "global settings" as to were (with the original version) I could just use the post FX, power amp sim, and cab IR's? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ There are a few decent free power amp sims VSTs out there, but dang man!

As someone who started out my recording journey with Audacity, I do not recommend it as a beginner tool. While I was able to get some decent sounding tracks out of it, with my first album being recorded almost entirely in Audacity, the workflow of the program was always something I struggled with. The click needing to be its own track instead of something built seamlessly into the DAW is a slight annoyance, and it is very hard to overdub on the program. Plus, the lack of MIDI is also a difficult problem to overcome. I think Cakewalk is probably the best to use because of the flexibility it offers as well as getting you used to more common elements of producing in a DAW.

Personally I find the workflow of Audacity to be very clunky and awkward. The reason that I included it is because there are people that swear by it as their main daw saying that it’s the only one that they can wrap their head around. So I wanted to give that option as everyone’a workflow will be different. Thank you for watching and for taking the time to comment. Keep creating! 👊👍

Great video! I'm just about to try this stuff. Had my first play with Audacity today but will be getting Cakewalk. Need to get an audio interface next. Have liked and subbed and appreciate your clear and straightforward presentation, thank you!

Thanks! I'm looking to record myself playing just to showcase a guitar. I use Neural DSP, and have my presets and IR's there that I'm pretty happy with. I'll try Cakewalk and Audacity.

Audacity is an editor, not a workstation. Sure, it can be used to have multiple tracks, but the lack of having an emulation of a mixing desk and routing adds quite some negative impact on the workflow as soon as there are many tracks, so I would never recommend it as a DAW. It is more in line with Audio Editors like Soundforge and such.

I use Cakewalk by Bandlab, but for modern metal TH3 sucks. It always sounds as if you put a blanket over the cab.

What amp sim do you use for modern metal?

@@AudioTechTV Lately StevieT, but with an IR of Resington (a Ytuber). I used already Gojira and other stuff. But it has to match your drumsound. So, If you start your sound with a guitar sound, you have to adjust everything around it. It always depends.

@@InTheSh8 honestly the bass is what really links the guitars and drums together. The low-mids are key to dialing in that relationship.

@AudioTechTV awesome video, thank you. Can we use one of these daws, hook up the Audio Interface and play the electric guitar and using desktop computer's speakers instead of studio monitors? If yes, how would you hook up the Behringer U-Phoria UMC-204HD. I would really appreciate your help on it. Subd to your channel.

Why is Cakewalk called Cakewalk? That implies it's easy. Right from the get go it complains about missing files or some crap. I finally get TH3 to show up and none of the dials seem to do anything. "Cakewalk" indeed.

Can you use the the guitar plugins when recording through an audio mic? Was going to try to use this with my uke to try to get a different sound and was wondering if this was possible.

Yes you can. Just use it like a regular effect plugin on your track. I’ve run all kinds of things through it. Lots of fun.

Cakewalk is freemium. You cannot save projects. So basically, it's free to test run.
@AudioTechTV3 ай бұрын
How much are they trying to charge you for the ability to save? If you get Cakewalk by Bandlab (which is free) all you have to do is create a free Bandlab account and sign in when prompted then you have access to the fully unlocked software. Hundreds of thousands of people are using it completely unlocked for free with all the features like saving. If you download an older version of Cakewalk or Sonar before it became Cakewalk by Bandlab maybe there’s issues with saving and other features. But I don’t cover those versions on this channel.

Can cakewalk guitar livestream and how?
@AudioTechTV7 ай бұрын
Can you live stream the guitar sound from cakewalk? Yes. In cakewalk you would need to use WASAPI shared as the driver type. And then in OBS Studio or whatever streaming software you use make sure you have the audio device set as the same one. You should be able to hear whatever you’re playing and stream it. There are other ways but this is a simple basic method.
