My favorite way to cheese it it with Gunslinger. Air Hike or Enemy Step as high as you can, alternate between regular shots and Bullet Rain to stay airborne from each move's small float, Enemy Step again before hitting the ground, repeat. If you do it well enough, you should only need to Step once or twice.

Not for vengeance, not to destroy, but to control, to protect. Considering Vergil and Dante lost their mother the way they did, it seems to me that Vergil is still reeling in fromthat loss just as much as Dante, if not more. I dunno maybe I’m just stating the obvious (or am completely off base in my speculation) but I wanted to ramble about how cool it is that there is so much history and character that’s implied with a few lines.

Vergil's in denial on so many levels - denying his "weak" human heritage, denying the impact the loss of his family had on him and refusing to accept and cope with his mother's death. He never accepts that his attitude or ideals are wrong - and because of that, he cannot move forward, fix his mistakes, find a new goal in life (he actually snaps when Dante asks him "what are you going to do with all that power?") and grow both in strenght and as a person. Daily reminder, this game also features a white-haired half-naked guy surfing on a rocket and video games are dumb poo-poo for little babbies.

28:13 The line makes total sense. Dante doesn't want to be connected in anyway with the demonic so he rejects any connection to his father. To the point that he states that he is there just to fight Vergil do to personal reasons and not some "world saving" hoolabaloo.

The line "Might controls everything. And without strength, you cannot protect anything." is such a massively overlooked character motivation almost everyone misses when talking about Vergil and why he does everything in this game. He's not a villain, he's not evil. He's looking for power because without power and without Sparda around, his family was destroyed. He wants power to kill Mundus and protect the family he has left, which is Dante. Somewhere along the way his motivations got twisted up but he never once mentions wanting power to actually be evil or do evil things. He embraces his demon side because without it he's just that boy who watched his mother die in front of him. He also stabs Dante with Rebellion because he knows that when showered with the blood of Sparda it unlocks its real power, which is what happened to him in side materials when he was stabbed with Yamato.

So there's a twist to this that's revealed in DMC5 and its supplemental manga: Vergil didn't watch his mother die in front of him; he was brutally "killed" before ever making it home. That makes his motivations a bit less noble and a bit more traumatic: deep down, he was angry that no one was there to protect _him._ As he was mercilessly skewered as a child with his life draining away, he felt deep resentment at his mother for "abandoning" him, at Dante for being the one she "protected," and at himself for being too weak to do anything. The ironic twist is that in actuality, Eva died while abandoning Dante to find Vergil. I think the significance of that twist is something a lot of folks also overlook: it wasn't just V merging with Urizen that humanized Vergil, but the fact that Dante _revealed what actually happened_ when their home was attacked long ago. The combination of those factors helped turn Vergil from the traumatized demon-child who sought absolute power to assure his own safety, to the human adult who finally understood that he always had family who loved and wanted to protect him, and that it was now his turn to protect the family he had left. Ultimately, it all results in pretty much what you wrote, though I don't think he was quite there in DMC3.

28:04 the way that line was probably intended to be interpreted as Dante denouncing his father considering being the person Sparda was ends up being the reason why Dante and Vergil’s mother was brutally murdered in front of Dante. And then later Dante and Vergil clash because of difference of opinions on this, with Vergil taking the extreme of summoning a gate to hell and Dante metaphorically trying to kill the devil inside him by slaying demons.

Actually in the first Vergil fight, prop with Rebellion has an absurd amount of hitstun on it, you can do Dante's delay combo, stop before the final hit by cancelling into prop, then do the basic Rebellion combo and end with stinger for decent damage for almost the whole fight. Until y'know he gets... *Motivated* Speaking of the best boss in video game history it's dope how you get the impression he has nothing really against Dante, they have stupid banter back and forth about the "party" and even Vergil admonishing him for his "foolishness" comes off as more him being annoyed at Dante not using his full power, instead of genuine malice, if you look past the sword in his abdomen (Which in that family has to be easier than average) I could gush more about Vergil, just like Woolie and Pat could I bet, but it's worth saving until we see the best part of his design.

Weird lore about DMC5 and Pat's crazy talking. Did you know that Pat invented Nero's Tomboy arm and put Style Switching back in? In podcast after DMC5 reveal(or in their E3 video, i don't remember) Pat said something along those lines: "Do you want to hold Red Queen in TWO hands? There's an arm for that!". In podcast after Gamescom Pat said "Style Switching has absolutely been confirmed" when in fact it wasn't confirmed and was a big concern among the fans. But that's just a theory.

Roadrunner Rebel it just shows Dante’s rejection of his demonic side at that point so he just dismisses his father in the conversation. It also shows how Dante doesn’t care about anything going on other than literally only wanting to fight his brother at this point. It’s a nice contrast to what Dante says to Vergil in fight 3 to show his progression as a character and actually taking responsibility to do the right thing

It's interesting that Dante kind of projects onto Vergil throughout the game. "I don't have a father. I just don't like you, that's all." He's basically saying the reason they're fighting has nothing to do with Sparda, and that he's making his own decisions. "No matter how strong you get, you'll never be like father." That was never Vergil's goal. Dante equates power with being like Sparda because of his father's great legacy and assumes Vergil does the same. Also, Easy Mode is now selectable. Not that it'd make that secret mission less painful.

Actually the line " father I don't have a father. I just don't like you" does make so sense if you look at it from a psychological level. In this fight we see Vergil already has his D.T because he's embarrassed his demonic heritage. Where as Dante has not so he doesn't think of himself as a half demon. So since Sparda was a full blood demon in Dante's mind that means he wasn't his father he doesn't like Vergil because he embrace his demon power. This also explains what Dante said to Cerberus Wayback in Mission 3 about not knowing if he's human or not.

When you think about it, DMC is a logical end progression of RE's ranking system logic. In RE, you are supposed to learn how to efficiently complete the game by learning the enemies and the map. You are supposed to become so efficient that you don't even need to use the fancy "really good gun for newbs" or the more easily acquired full health items. Once you start making 'don't lame it out with items' as a metric... the only way forward is to turn 'efficient' play into 'SSStylish!' play.

The difference between gold and yellow mode is how continues and gold orbs work, gold mode let's you restart from entering the room and makes the orbs a revive-on-spot, yellow mode is restart mission on death and gold orbs being a room restart

I just thought I should correct woolie. Royal Guard does factor in what direction the enemy is attacking from. If you perfect parry and push toward the enemy attacking you, it does the parry and release at the same time. This is the first instance of Raiden's mechanic that I know of.
