Ian, when it comes to being better at helping the family with stuff. Something that works really well for a lot of adhd folks (I know you said you might be undiagnosed) is not trying to change tasks straight away, but giving yourself a certain amount of time to instead. So instead of your wife saying "hey Ian can you come help with this thing right now?" and you being like "yeah ok in a minute" and then time slips away from you, instead have her be like "hey Ian can you come help with this thing in 20 minutes?", then you set an timer for 20 minutes and when it goes off you know you need to stop what you're doing and go help. That way you know for that whole 20 minutes that you're only working to finish up what you're currently doing, not getting lost in something and letting time slip away from you. Hope that helps!

I was one of the musos that was part of that community hanging at the Wardrobe, and the Hi-Fi too, after and around gigs. So special to revisit that and listening to how insane this whole journey has been for Scott and team.

To Ian; failure is how you learn. It's how you get better. I am a software project manager. I can honestly say, my worst failures have led to greatest successes. Sounds corny, but I wish I knew this years ago. If I could go back in time, I'd tell young me that advice.

Dudes, thank you, for real.. Inspire us, you already do.. We did not all have a father pushing us in that direction, and some of us actually do the fucking factory job to put food on the table, dreaming to do something else. I'm one of them, and your platform and your vibes rely came I'm the right time in my life, reaching 40, when I took the decision to realy give myself a chance to make the change. So again, thanks for being there, helping with the playing, and helping with the mindset and wisdom. Cheers, keep doing it, it makes a difference

One of the quotes that most resonates with me comes from my dad: “There are 3 people in this world: those that think about doing something, those that say they’re going to do something, and those that actually do it.” That’s not to say that one has to commit to every idea that they have, but it’s a good mentality to have to at least get something done. Here’s to the new year!

Thank you Ian and Scott for this pod. It is a perfect add to the SBL, where I am a lifetime member. It is your personalities that built your audience, so it speaks volumes :). You forgot to mention Bass Camp '23, which was amazing. My favorite was discussion with Bass Builders. And for '24, please come to Montreux festival in July, it would be amazing to see you in person...

Love the bass content on your channel! What truly inspires me is how you blend life lessons with music discussions. It's more than just bass, it's about deeper connections and stories. Slowly, I'm becoming an ambassador for SBL because of your impactful content. Keep up the great work! Many thanks from Belgium!

So excited for what your community is achieving, you folks have really landed perfectly with outstanding hard work during the golden years of global Internet growth. Because of the psychological/spiritual aspect to the bass community. I suggest you watch/listen to the" psychological drivers to the metacrisis" Ian, John and Daniels discussion will help SBL orientation over the next few yrs. We'll done from me.

Such a great episode to start the year! You guys are gems for sure. Scott - I first saw one of your videos 7 years ago learning Jamiroquai - Deeper Underground and have been a loyal viewer since. Been a member of SBL for a while now and love it. It’s made my playing astronomically better than it was. Thanks. Ian you’re a great inspiration and I love your HX stomp DI and Amp pack. I’ve used it as a spring board to navigate the pedal and to make a bunch of my own patches that I use everyday. All the best for 2024

Be careful with working out on antibiotics, because some of them can make your tendons/ligaments more susceptible to stress and injury. Definitely take it nice and easy, and don’t push too hard until you wean off of them.

Ian this is especially for you. I think you are a great bloke and have added a huge amount to SBL, but you will be a complete f**kwit if you lose your family. Trust me when I say that it's the worst thing in the world and it won't matter how good the rest of your life is, emotionally you will be screwed. Please DO NOT lose them.

Scott is 100% correct - you create a ton of valuable content and build up an audience that appreciates you, and then you put out music and if your audience is big enough and your music is good enough, they'll support you. I think this model works best if you have something to sell like instructional content, software (which is what patches are), or merchandise . The plan is fairly simple. The hard part is that few people have the talent to create a ton of valuable content. 91% of KZbin channels never hit a thousand subs. So if you want to make a living doing your own music, the plan is to make a living making content that isn't your own music so that one day people will buy your music. Is this just giving people two very difficult tasks instead of one? Well, yes, but I do agree that it's probably the most likely path to success. The GOOD news is that it works, even on small levels. My paltry 3.5k subs have led to a decent increase in the number of people who listen to my music. And I'm doing this as a hobby.
