Ian your not just an awesome bassist you seem an awesome person 🙌🙌 I have to agree ref the rounds , I accidentally purchased a set of chromes a good few years back and they where actually awesome for recording with , a cross with rounds ( if played with a pick ) and rounds if played with fingers and palm muting , I loved them , I use Dr strings on everything now ( high beams, fat beams and black beauties & sunbeams , I love them ) but I may get another set of chromes if I do get another p bass .

KoRn should just hire him on permanently instead of letting Fieldy hold the band hostage. Fieldy can play with his other band but not KoRn? Time for Fieldy to go. Ra fills his shoes nicely.

I was thinking the other day since I'm trying to learn to slap and they're my favourite band I think. There's not really any slapping songs in Weezer's catalogue right? Or is there some I'm forgetting? I'd love to know.

My bass beginning story goes something like: I loved Nu Metal and was wanting that ultra scooped tone, my father who is a rock musician bought me a p bass copy and handed me some picks and said something along the lines of “this is all you’ll ever need” … I loathed it at the time; no scoop? No clickity poppity? No active sizzle? but man was he right. To this day I play a p bass almost exclusively and while I play finger style and more genres outside of rock, it’s truly the best one trick pony out there. Needless to say I love my p bass and while I feel the desire to use other basses, the p bass always finds its way back.

4:30 such a fun perspective! :)

49:32 :) on an 1980s Hohner fretted 4 string PJ, with the rounds that were there already, I "had" to replace the G (because it rang so high and sounded like it was from an entirely different set) with a Rotosound 88, flat, tape wound G (left over from a BEAD restoration/art-piece project bass), and now it sounds in concert with the rest :)
@Crime_LabАй бұрын
12:37 omj! yes! that catching thing, oi :) also, just put Rotosound 77s on a 5 string, defreted Cort Curbow, my first time using these, they have notable texture, which is surprisingly not painful, and make audible scraping sounds when wanted :) the on-board EQ helps make them as "clangy" or "upright DB" sounding as one can within the given parameters/perimeters :):):) should this information be useful to someone :)

I buy used mongrels, off the beaten path for the most part. With stories. I have an old Tokai Hardpuncher, a really cheap Epi Embassy Pro that's super fun and sounds fantastic. 81 and 85 Ibanez basses, 80 Aria Pro SB600, Hondo II Longhorn... Mostly pawn shoppy kind of stuff. I like their quirks and personality.

I bought a Squire p bass in 80s not long after I bought a Fender it wasn't as good I sold the Fender I later found out its a Japanese import It cost me £100 used I'm still playing it I've got other basses I still go back to the Squire its an 86

Don't look at the tag. Fenders find their owners. If you play 15 fender basses 5 from each level you may find they all play different. In that group, you may find the middle of the road is your sweet spot.

Thank you gentlemen. I had spent a good deal of time in the interwebs rabbit holes looking at gear: fretless bass (new pickups/caps/pots/etc.), flats vs round wound, my MTD 5er. I am listening back to the recordings I have of me in the hip band and what is my sound. What IS my sound ... is now my focus for the next little bit. Thank you.
