Getting ready for lube change..... I work for AM General and build the military hummer. Got a duece from the company a few years back. Came in under the ESP program, so it should be a M35A3. BUT... it's slightly different, it has a Caterpillar 3116, 5 speed manual, Electric wipers, air over hydraulic steering, 14.5x20 super singles, no CTI'S, no winch, has the old duece front nose, no heat.....OK.. what oil goes in the motor, trans and transfer case. Was about a 1998 build that was never delivered to the government, had 91 miles on it but its showing some age...like paint is starting to come off, tires are a little weather checked. Couldn't pass on the deal, was $4000.. she'll run "smooth", head down the road with no issues and everything works as it should. Wanna keep it for a bit and wanna keep it up to par. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx John Klopenstine

for the spicer 3053a and the m35a2 transfer case, that will work. If you want exactly what SPICER recommends for that gearbox, not the military, the only current production oil that 100% matches the specs is Royal Purple CMT50. Part number 10231. Triple check before posting, that is not a typo. Its not found at your local TSC or auto parts store. It can only be found at a Royal Purple distributor. Ran this oil in my hot shot truck. A 1 ton cummins that i swapped a 3053a into, and i run this in my m35a2. You will notice much easier shifting, and much cooler run temps.

Rotella is the standard go-to for diesel oil for older engines and even some newer ones. Gear oil also has to be in a nonfiltered box for years. It needs anti-wear properties as its major additive.

I’m going to be getting a deuce soon. You brother have opened my eyes with your videos and the way you make it all simple. I live in Nebraska and sometimes it gets -3 real feel negative thirty. For the oil in the gears and all should I use the 30.? And thank you for all the awesome videos!!!!! You are truly an inspiration.

Every duce I've ever worked on had an oil filter, every non filter engine I've ever worked on uses detergent oil, there are bronze syncros in modern manual transmissions. I'm listening to this going is it possible i don't know what this guy does? I only agree with modern oils don't have yhe heavy metals required for flat tappet and high rpm engines, most racing oils still have what's required for solid lifter engines tho.

I was wondering about that GL-1 gear oil. I've seen threads about it on Steel Soldiers, though most try to avoid it because the 30-40 straight weight oil works so much better. Im curious, if SAE30 is all you could find, would you chance it by adding some Lucas oil Stabilizer to it to make it a little thicker? I usually use it in my engine oil in the colder months since it does pretty much eliminate dry starts, but I'm aware of the fact many mechanics usually suggest staying away from oil additives.

That's a good idea. Per the Lucas website they don't add any sulfur which is what attacks the bronze but how much you need to add to turn 30wt to 40wt would be a guessing game.

@@deuceandguns My guess the only way to find out is trial and error while monitoring the temperature and noise. I noticed my engine stays a little cooler, oil pressure climbs faster, and it has an audible difference, she more less purrs now.
