Thanks for the recommendations! I have subscribed to your site. I circled back to your video a few times to remind myself what gear would be appropriate. My intent is to have the basic gear to record videos for personal use and potentially share on KZbin. I am attempting to keep things at a minimum. I will use an iPhone 6S Plus 128GB (gives me ability to record in 4K and has adequate capacity) and it has a headphone jack. Please see the follow (I apologize for the length). I will be using iPhone with a plug in Rode VideoMic Me on a Zhinyu Smooth Q. The mic hook up will be front facing. I'll then use the charging port to connect to the ZSQ (USB to USBc) charging port for constant recharge of iPhone. Question: The mic will be front facing to pick up interviewee and/or ambient sound. I want to plug in a splitter cable in the back-end of mic. I believe that will allow use of a lavalier mic and a headset to monitor recording. Any recommendations? Replies / recommendations welcomed!

Thanks for the vid. I never thought to mount the seflie stick to the manfroto mini tripod. That is going to help a ton for me shooting on my cell phone. I already had both in this case. GENIUS.

I've had a youtube channel for years and have not anything with it until recently. I am not technical so I'm trying to learn all of this on my own, and this is really helpful. I'm trying to find a mic that is compatible with my IPhone 5S and my Panasonic HDC-TM90 camcorder. I'm wanting to get out and do videos on the road this summer and didn't know what the best mic would be that I could use on these devices.

I have been extremely frustrated with how large and clunky (not to mention EXPENSIVE) my recent purchase of the lumix G7 has been for my fitness videos. I stumbled across your tutorial and have decided to return the G7 and instead utilize my iphone 7+! Purchasing your recommended gadgets now. It all makes so much more sense after watching this, I appreciate you doing such a fantastic, straightforward tutorial!

I think if you're going to start out with youtube I think it's a better investment for Premiere Pro because Coral video cost a lot more up front than Premiere does and you're going to want to upgrade to Premiere in the long run anyway considering it's probably the most powerful video editor on the market currently. Plus there's the added benefit of it being for free on a trial basis for the first 30 days and then you can pay for it monthly which is great for when you're starting up cuz if you decide later on you don't want to do it you didn't have to invest a ton of money just to do editing. I'm starting KZbin now but I've been publishing books for years and my biggest mistake was going for easy to use software vs higher end soft ware I had to pay monthly. I use Coral to do the designs for my book at first but then later as I did more work I realized I should have started with InDesign seeing that I was using Photoshop already. Pluses if you start with premiere picking up the rest of the software is easy like Photoshop to do thumbnail and audition for audio editing. I'm picking up premiere super easy right now because I use InDesign and photo not to mention I use audition for my church. So for starting I think it's better with premiere. Now the rest of your video I needed that I haven't seen those tripods and I might actually get a monopod set up like you showed and that wasn't even something I was considering thanks alot.

Hi. Thanks for the clear explanations. Just a couple of questions and forgive me if you answered somewhere else: filming with iphone or smartphone outside can run into limitations: batery life and memory space. Specially if you want to do bulk filming or series? What's do you recomend? Can you also elaborate (make a video or point me to one you have done) showing how you set up the tablet to control what tou are filming? Finally, since this is for newbies like me, what about lighting? What do you recomend? Cheers

Hi Rivers, Can you recommend a less expensive camera for shooting KZbin videos? I checked out the one you link in your description, but it's way out of my price point. My price point would be more in the $200 range. OR...would it be okay to just use my cell phone to record videos for now until I know if this is something I will stick with? Thanks for your videos!
@Somecooltech18 жыл бұрын
I'd recommend using a smartphone. You might want to get the latest phone though like and iphone 7 or Galaxy s7. The newer phones are MUCH better than 2 generations ago. As long as you use a tripod the quality is not bad. For $269 you could get this camera amzn.to/2kfxNGW which shoots 1080p at 60fps. The quality will probably be pretty decent. If it was me personally I'd put that $200 toward the latest phone. Also I did not cover lights in the video but lighting is very important. Get two or three of these amzn.to/2kCqqKB . You will be so glad you did.

Hi Rivers, I am a total novice and just getting started in this. I want to start making videos of my wife's yoga classes. Once I have my smartphone setup and stabilized, do I have to go to the phone and touch the screen to start the video? or is there some kind of remote I could use to stand back and start the video. I know this sounds elementary but its a looming question. Thanks for the great purchase tips and your videos are great..Bill

Good review. A good tripod is a definite must. However, there are much better sounding microphone options than the Blue Snowball. (Stay away from the Yeti also) A Shure SM57 with a Blue icicle USB converter is still budget friendly and a better choice. The older Blue Bird is also good as is the cheaper Rode NT1.

@_GarethRossUK8 жыл бұрын
Tech Connect it's very good for the price, the pivot ball is stiff but I think thats more of a plus I just wish they had interchangeable feet but it's not very different from the pricier models. i did try what you did putting a monopod on top with a bridge camera and let's just say timber but dont worry I tested it at home and nothing fell but it's not stable enough for anything heavier than a phone at height which if it were that stable would be a killer item to have.
