@2:12 Here's a little tip to help with screwing on lenses: Find the point where they align and you can just start twisting them together without cross-threading, then put a dot on the lens and a dot on the device to show you their alignment with each other. You can use a sharpie or nail polish. Now you have a visual mark of where they mate and should have much less problems. :)

I haven’t seen anything for the X yet. But, I’m sure it’s out there. I believe there are some universal cases!

I've been using the iOgrapher for a couple of months now on an iPhone 6S Plus. It does the job pretty well, but I have a couple of criticisms of the current design. The first is that it is fairly difficult to get the iPhone out of the case - it's a REALLY tight fit and difficult to get a finger grip under the edge of the iPhone - and then it takes a fair amount of force to pop it out. Inconvenient, hard work and worrying in case you damage your phone. The second criticism is regarding the 1/4 tripod screw mount on the short (right hand) side of the case. Basically it could be much more solidly built into the case. I have an adaptor that attaches to an iRig Pro audio interface mounted here. It's a fairly lightweight piece of kit, but putting even slight back to front bending pressure on the iRig causes the front portion of the case (the case design is actually in 2 halves screwed together) to bow out alarmingly. Too much force and I imagine it could easily break. It has held together so far, since the iRig tends not to get pulled about much in normal use and the weight of it is usually vertical to the case. However, if this side mount was used on to a tripod for instance, given the full weight of the iPhone and the case, any attached rig, as well as the now greater lever arc, I would have little confidence in this thing holding together for long.

Always go backwards first when attaching the lens (as if you were taking it off rather than putting it on) this will ensure the threads line up. An old mechanics trick for installing spark plugs. Just a thought.

I have had a problem using the Rode VideoMicro with the iPhone 6S Plus for video recording. I bought the special Rode connector plug for iPhone and all seemed well at first. The voice is captured clearly and the noise-floor is very low. Then I noticed sometimes I was getting crackling sounds and occasionally complete sound drop-outs when recording. This was unpredictable but of course catastrophic when it occurred and the recording was important. I thought the mic itself was about to give out. As it was under warranty I planned to send it in for repair/replacement. Then I noticed the problem was actually with the mic plug-jack connection. If I pulled only very slightly on the plug it would slide out a tiny fraction of an inch, but that was enough to produce all the problems I was getting. Basically the phone was flipping between external and internal mic inputs. Clearly the Rode mic plug does not provide a particularly reliable connection to the iPhone mic jack. Now I have to be very careful when recording video not to disturb the mic cord and continually need to check visually on the dBFS meter (I use the Mavis app) that I'm getting a good signal on the external input. Unfortunately there is no way to monitor audio input with headphones when using the VideoMicro, which would provide the best confirmation of capturing good audio. Obviously this is not a workable situation and I have decided to go a completely different route and now have on order the iRig Pro and a short shotgun mic (Audio Technica AT875). This way I bypass the iPhone audio jack completely and go in via the lightening connector. It also allows for headphone monitoring - a very reassuring prospect - and should also offer better sound quality (not that that was the prime issue) but most importantly a reliable audio signal. This is a more expensive audio solution, but worth it IMHO for doing any kind of serious work.
@darcymiller22468 жыл бұрын
u could buy FilmicPro (the app) it supports external mics.. that might help..

kipling1957 I think you have some lint in your headphone jack. Normally the jack should sit firmly in your phone. Lint can cause cables to get loose.

Credit to my dad for teaching me this as a kid: When you screw together anything threaded, turn it backwards first. You can feel (and usually see) when it falls into the connecting threads. Then just start screwing it in normally and it will go right in. Presumably, it will work for the iOgrapher system too. ;)

+Amanda Woolsey I have said multiple times before, I prefer high quality 1080p as oppose to low quality 4K, just for the sake of shooting in 4K. I have a question regarding sound capturing when using the iOgrapher. I recently brought an iOgrapher and I tried it out with my iPhone 6s, I was filming hand held with it and after filming when I examine a take, the phone captures/transfer handling noises of my finger tips rubbing/tapping against the plastic of the iOgrapher. I would use a tripod but I love filming my videos/films Hand Held. So my question is which mic do I use that won't transfer handling noises? Rode Videomic Go or Pro or Rode VideoMic Me?
