This is exactly the way I like to go about making farms, and is also why I have been enjoying your beyond logic series, the slime/wrose farm was awesome! I enjoy having a go at making my own design and learning about the mechanics involved. I had a go at making a wither skeleton farm using carved pumkins to pull them out of the mob cap. It was a fun challenege figuring out a way to recycle the carved pumkins while not needing an unresonable amount of pumpkins to prime the system in the first place, it also has a respectable output for a dual crossroad design. Despite me only doing it for my HC world, I shared it with the twitch MC community and it's gained a lot of popularity (over 500 downloads, crazy) Dave even built it on the Legacy smp which just blows my mind.

Mobs always spawn in the center of the block, so as long as they don't have time to pathfind they should land on the dripstone. The gaps between dripstone is only large enough between two blocks. What's tougher is collecting the items. You sadly can't simply place the dripstone on hoppers.

This is super cool! Congrats on a new solid design for a gold farm, it was a lot of fun to watch :). I do have one question - The glass blocks between the hopper lines that the piglins land on - are those necessary? I assume that they are to keep the items from falling away from the hoppers, but it seems like they would be picked up instantly anyway. And if those blocks were there, the few piglins that landed on them would instead either still die on the hopper, or fall into the void. Almost certainly not much of an improvement in rates, but it would also make building just a little easier. Love the farm, and looking forward to seeing it in beyond logic!

I totally agree with your message. Try to learn the mechanics in order to design our own designs is part of being "a technical player". Sometimes it is hard or almost impossible to improve a existing design but at least you have fun playing around with the idea in creative. Yes, I think it's very easy to get stuck in an optimisation mindset, and start chasing numbers! Nothing wrong with that, but often it's fun to take a different approach. Some of my favourite farms I've designed have been some of the least effective and practical, and I think I've neglected them more than I should. The great thing about Minecraft is that it's a game, and there's nothing stopping us from building whatever we want! On the topic of the farm itself, will the rows of observers interfere with pack spawning? If so, I wonder if it would be possible to raile them up one block and power the pistons with QC. I can't see how that's feasible in the space you have, but maybe someone has a creative solution.

I like that it is modular. In theory, you could build it with only 1 (one) spawning pad! You can also create this without shulker boxes. Therefore, rather early in the game, you can have a gold farm, and add to its size and storage (shulker) as you go along. Great!

If you build the glass walls up you would avoid pigmen falling on the glass. Alternatively you could increase the fall height so the pigmen still die if they hit the glass. Third idea, I believe powder snow is non-spawnable, and that would kill pickmen that land in it

very interesting concept indeed. I would like to suggest one thing. make the glass around the hoppers 2 blocks tall (the hoppers that collect the mob loot right after mob death), and over the hoppers put soul campfire. this way the chicken-jockeys will die earlier, helping with the mob cap. and I have a question. Would it be better if you increase the height of the spawning platform to 25 blocks (so that even the mobs that land on the glass will die of fall damage) and put a back and forth flying-machine over the glass? to push on the hoppers (with the campfires on top) all the loot that is produced by the mobs that fell on the glass. this will free the mob cap faster and you get more loot as well.
