I love the idea that Humans has light assault carriers, fleet carriers and supercarriers
@noppornwongrassamee89413 ай бұрын
They're called Light Assault CRAFT in the story. I think the implication is that the human supercarriers carry and deploy the Light Assault Craft.

It’s space. You can build anything to any size in any shape that you can make move. The only consideration would be, will it be making atmosphere flights? If not, what will it carry that can? Past that, if you can make it move, you can have a ship. Edit: one of the best defenses would be a drone swarm that just sits around the ship.
@corvididaecorax29913 ай бұрын
@@widdershins5383 That isn't quite true. There are a lot of possible factors. As an example for ships the size depicted in the story they would likely have issues if they got too close to a planet or star as the gravity on one side of the ship could be very different from that on the other side, producing both a stretching force and a torque on the structure as different parts are essentially trying to move in different orbits. Very large ships also have to worry about how forces move through their structure. A push at one point, from an engine for example, doesn't instantly affect the whole thing at once. Instead it propagates as a wave at the speed of sound in the various materials making up the ship. That is usually on the order of kilometers per second, so not anything we usually care about. But if your ship is multiple kilometers in size then if you turn on an engine in the back the front might not start moving for whole seconds. That compresses everything and requires compensating for in the design. It also highly limits your possible acceleration.

The authors writing stories like this for the "Wow" factor are doing a disservice. No one communicates (especially to - potentially violent - superiors) by obfuscating the necessary information. Your species has a classification for super-carriers; how many ships meet that classification? If the enemy has a different classification that doesn't matter. "The enemy has 228 Systemcraker equivalent vessels, thousands of smaller vessels, and 10 vessels each capable of housing our entire fleet." When making a report a subordinate is going to use language that will convey the message to their superior. Especially when you take the time to define a word but then do not use that definition to make your assertion! Sure it's fun for a reveal, but it doesn't make sense as part of a story.
@link109093 ай бұрын
Actually this is exactly how someone could communicate it. If your goal is not to communicate efficiently but to embarrass your rival and prove that you are wiser/more vital than your rival who would have got your empire destroyed. This is a political discussion where the spy master played the general for a fool in front of the leader.
@nathanegnew19233 ай бұрын
@@link10909 from the way it is presented, it makes the spy master sound like a pretentious imbecile. "Let me tell you my master plan! I will give you information (that only I am privy to). You will then make assumptions about this information incorrectly (because I'm intentionally misleading you). I will then tell you that the obvious course of action is wrong (so that you get mad and lash out?). After you assault me, I will then reveal that I was not giving you the full picture so you will look stupid and rash for your course of action." Yeah someone would do that. Not a well respected and trusted advisor to the empress.
@DeHerg3 ай бұрын
That entire upper hierarchy seems to be on the rather low end of a certain bell curve. I mean, the general wanted to "draw up invasion plans" without any knowledge of the enemy composition. What were those plans supposed to be based on, the tingling in his gametes?
@Nempo133 ай бұрын
@@nathanegnew1923 I can tell you are not familiar with politics, be it in a large company or legitimate politics. How it is written here is exactly how you do presentations to not just make your opponent look like a fool, but to erase them as a competitor entirely. Yes, the leader will be annoyed by this method of giving information. However, they will also view the information and how the other subordinates reacted to almost eliminating the source of such vital information differently. In this case the general can expect a demotion at the minimum for threating to kill the ONLY individual they can rely on for this information. Her palace guards can also expect a reprimand to how they escalated things. This places the spymaster in the 'high seat' and he can say some words to smooth over things with the guards so they do not lose face, and earn their respect while doing so. Politics is never straight forward and when you are dealing with antagonistic people you have to play up to their weaknesses to get them removed from position so you can do your own job easier.
