Best hike in Orange County

San Juan Trail in Cleveland National Forest, is a short drive from the five freeway, but once you arrive it feels pretty remote. As a mountain biker, I've ridden this trial many times, and know it well, but hiking it is a different experience. You see more!
The trail climbs out of the shady parking lot and it never really feels steep, but you're treated with 16 switchbacks that are much easier to hike than ride.
Depending on the time of year. you may start in the fog, but generally will get above the clouds for some amazing views. I've been on this trail in rain and snow. Just check the weather before heading out.
This was my first time exploring Sugarloaf peak and I highly recommend this stop either on the bike or hiking.
Make sure you bring plenty of water and a snack you'll be out there for a good five or so hours hiking and it can get warm.
Cell service is very spotty. If you have the pro version of AllTrails, download the map before heading out. You can also see where you are at on Strava since it also uses GPS.

If you’re looking for a long hike, it’s great. You can also start up at Blue Jay- it’s pretty shady up there, too. But go on a cooler day.
