it's sad that there is no licensing agreements with major racing formats, I remember the F1, PPG/Indy, Nascar, that is what made it more realistic and develop followings to the real racing teams/programs.

Agree! We need more integration with current events. The problem is we have a such a niche, but the fees for these are so much it is hard to handle the cost. We are pushing for more if we can keep growing the sport, there are a lot of people who are retiring that remember racing when they were younger and we are snagging them up but we need to get the grandchildren racing so we can get a new group of racers

What's the best way to maintain the track. I have an AFX kit purchased 25 years ago, and there are some spots with what looks like rust. Should I use a dremel to clean gently for best contact? Or is there something better to do?

The AFX trigger controllers will work and plug in to the autoworld sets and it makes the cars so much more controllable. The thumb throttle auto world uses is just terrible and gives you no slow speed for corners. I would advise buying an AFX track and then collect whatever cars you want, the auto world cars are fine and look great, its just their controllers that stink.

Hello, I just found an Fast Lane electric track racing set at a Goodwill with all of the pieces and cars; after putting it together, I realized that it works but the cars stop on certain tracks. I haven't used these since the early '70s, can this be fixed? Some of the plastic connectors are broken but all the metal connectors are fine.

Yes that can all be fixed! its trial and error finding what tracks dont work then trouble shooting each piece with parts that do work.

My mother saved nearly all of my toys, but for some reason she did not save my slot car track. I had a large track with some extra track accessories, and I would like to find that set for sale somewhere, or accumulate enough pieces to build it, but obviously, it would be nice to find a complete used one with the box. I had received it as a Christmas gift in the early '80s, and it was a Tyco set, one of the night glow, I believe. Also, at that time, I recall it being the largest track in a complete set that Tyco sold. I remember the track was just barely bigger than a 4' x 8' piece of plywood because mine was originally laid out on a piece of plywood and my grandfather had add some extensions to the one corner where the track overlapped the edge of the sheet of plywood. It would be helpful if anybody could inform of the name of this Tyco set or a model number for it. Then, to recreate the whole thing like I eventually had it, I would also need to acquire two loop-de-loops, a jump, and one glow-in-the-dark bendable track piece. Then, there's the matter of all the vehicles, which I can not recall everyone I had, but my main focus currently is the track. Anybody familiar with this track, or even remembers the specific one to which I am referring???

I know its a late response, but no, they are not all compatible, at least not without some adapters that allow track manufacturers with different connector types to be joined. Tomy track from the 80s has different connectors than the modern day AFX stuff and Tyco is completely different as well. There are some really creative folks out there who have made adapters to interconnect all these tracks. Keep in mind that different cars from era and manufacturer also have varying power needs. They may work, but a car that is underpowered or drawing to much current could trash a stock controller/trigger.

I would stick with AFX and not Autoworld. Hit flea markets and craigslist and you can find all kinds of extra track and cars etc. The new AFX also has the power supplies with adjustable power/speed. Great for kids ( lower speeds ) and adults

Magnets ruined HO racing, I loved power sliding my TJet and original AFX cars. You can basically race the new cars wide open now.

Magnets did no such thing. You want to race T-jets or gravity cars as they're called now? There are now at least three companies that make reproduction T-jet products true to the originals. Have you heard of The Fray In Ferndale? Magnets opened up a new arena in slot car racing, that's all. It gave us more choice, not less. And, don't kid yourself, you have to drive magnet cars every bit as much as you do T-Jets. Where would be the fun in putting a car on the track and just turning on the power? If you put a car on the track and just pull the trigger all the way and hold it there and the cars never come off, you're doing something wrong.

@@rmarty550 Well, not to sound argumentative but it really seems like you are down on magnet racing for no other reason than style preferences. All I'm saying is that gravity racing hasn't been diminished in any way just because magnet cars came along. The link provided is by no means the only one. Dash Motorsports, Wizzard, AutoWorld, Jonny Lightning, etc. all make t-jet reproductions and even most of the magnet chassis now have gravity versions available that use weights in place of traction magnets which means magnet cars have given gravity racers even more choices.

1:87 is HO (Half O) Scale. 1:64 is S Scale. 1:43.5 is O Scale. I don't understand why the slot car community refers to 1:64 as HO Scale. The model train community seems to follow this scaling.

I find that the magnatraction cars didn't didn't stay well on the track as well as the G+ cars. I'd race these side-by-side and G+ cars owned the magnatraction cars all the time.

Afx is the best. Auto world uses 1970 technology . Afx uses today's technology. If you want a car track that the cars will stay on while the kids are racing you will need today's technology. Children are not impressed with yesterday's technology. Pro tinker blog is in bed with auto world so be aware of what's going on here. For instance. An AFX MEGA G is 10 times as fast as any car auto world manufacturers. Bottom line, THE BEST IS AFX.

Great video. Just got back into slot cars after 25 years. I had a AFX track and cars from my uncle but lost the track when I lost the storage. Just recently got a tyco track for free from a train and hobby show. They only had trains and models. It was one person that had a track. They gave it to me free because I was the only interested in it. Still on the hunt for the cars in my house. But I did get some from Autoworld and race with my 7 year old daughter. We both love it.

I used to love these. One thing I could never grasp is why some cars seemed to be much faster than others. I must of been around 10 years old, and spent about 60$ of my saved money on a set of 2 dodge vipers. Red and green one. I was so excited to use them and they were sooo slow. Such beautifully detailed cars that I wasted my money on.

It is true there is a bit of variance in each chassis. Although there are ways to tinker with each chassis and improve their performance with only a few minor adjustments.

Even the slow cars are fun to race against each other though. All chassis have different handling characteristics. Some stick to the track like glue, some slide out in turns, some burn rubber, some are eye-watering fast, some are much slower, some fly off the track sooner and must be "driven" through turns etc. All that matters to have maximum fun is that all cars in a race are the same chassis.

Yes, and its recommended if you are building a permanent track. I suggest you try a few different layouts before you screw it down - make sure you have the layout you want. Also, I would go with AFX/Racemasters track, they have a wider variety of different radius curves. The quality is very good as well.

Hi Fred Thunderjet was the name on the Aurora (before AFX) cars. It has a pancake motor. I started with Aurora. Tyco came later with a different motor. Tyco was faster. I just got cars out of my attic... I have Newer AFX cars with pancake motor and no magnets. I have a few AW cars and they have magnets... they stick like glue and are like a bat outta here fast. I prefer the Thunderjet motors but I am sure a boy will want the G+. Mitch... just a customer
