Do I need to make the afk platform all the way up there? (Edit: you do need it the Hoglins won’t continue to spawn unless you build the platform above them)

For maximum rates yes otherwise it doesn't matter but prepare for exponentially lower rates as the hoglins will spawn in surrounding areas. Higher from the open area the better as that force a portion of the spawn platform to be entirely above the bedrock roof.

The farm doesn’t work, hoglins aren’t spawning. Zombie pigmans spawns instead. I followed the tutorial step by step and I built it in the correct biome.
