Best home refillable co2 kit (step-by-step review and tutorial 2021)

Today we will set-up a new all-in-one CO2 kit made by Colombo. The best thing about this kit is that you can refill the co2 AT HOME using simple and cheap components (around £4 per refill!!!). Just add two components and add water, its that simple. Best of all, included is a nice bubble counter and solenoid valve so you can turn off the CO2 at night.

Brilliant video! This is causing me a bit of a dilemma, I'm going to set up a co2 system for my 100l and I've been looking at several options and suppliers of equipment,it seems that there are people with good and bad reviews for all the main suppliers, mainly regarding regulators and solenoids and as these are expensive bits of equipment you don't want to have them going wrong. Now this looks like a really easy, foolproof setup,no dangerous high pressure cylinders,just one gauge to keep an eye on and you could store a good supply of chemicals for when it runs out and needs restarting. It appears to be a good option for someone like me who suffers from technophobia and doesn't feel confident setting up a high pressure system,and it does seem to be a big step up from the usual DIY kit,also the price should reflect the quality as it costs virtually the same as Colombo's big co2 set up! Thank you for this excellent video, I would be interested in a follow-up in a while to see how it performs over the next few weeks.

Hi Richard, I am keen to see how long this system lasts and monitor its performance as I literally set it up for the first time whilst making the video, just so that I share the experience of doing things for the first time with the subscribers and viewers. I will certainly do an update video for you for sure and if there are any problems I will mentioned them. So far so good. The only thing I noticed this morning is that I need to top up the water in the bubble counter but that is normal for all bubble counters. I remember being so scared setting my first pressurised bottle of co2, my hands were sweating from nerves and I had to wear gloves 😆😆😆. But once you know how to go it, keep everyhing closed and open up valves in the right order it's fine. What inlikes about this system is that it's so simple to use, set up and it actually works well, which I was surprised to see. I am very happy with this product so far but will be monitoring it closely and reporting back to the company and to viewers in due course.

@@Natquascape I would be interested in the results of your test of this product but I've got a feeling that it'll prove to be ok for nano tanks but not practical for anything over 50l or so. Anyway you've taken the time and trouble to explain how it all works and Colombo should be happy with how you've presented their product because you've certainly made it look good but time will tell how durable it is.

Hi thanks for the video. Should there be an o-ring in the cap for the bubble counter? I mean the but you unscrew in order to fill it with water? I have air leaking from there but I can't see any damage. Thanks!

Hi Jim, that is the question. I have heard that they can last even up to 8 weeks. All depends on how many bubbles per second you are adding. I will be doing an update to show low long it can last on 2 bubbles oer second on a tank (tank in the video) that is 90L. I have heard that with 2 bubbles per second onna 90L tank it can last anywhere between 6-8 weeks

Hi, absolutely NOT haha. Best for nano less than 90L if you want to get 25-30 ppm co2. Otherwise you can use it if you want to add a little co2 for very easy to keep plants. This won't last long at all in a 7 foot. Hope that helps
