QUESTION - What homeschool books do you recommend?
Starting homeschool can be scary and overwhelming. Trying to figure out how to homeschool, what homeschool curriculum to use, and filter through the most popular homeschool curriculums can be a full time job in itself. I've read through the majority of books related to homeschooling over the last few years and these three really touch on the theory of homeschooling, walk through your homeschooling options, and give some great outlines into living homeschool book list. I hope these homeschooling resources assist you in your journey as they have for me.

Not yet, but I plan to start next year! We just started informal poetry tea times, though, and they've been wonderful.

Fun! We are going to start that in January. I want to start it now but I know that with the holidays we will informally be doing some days of hot cocoa and reading. I like to add new things at the beginning of the year so I'm on the lookout for a cute set during the holidays. We plan to start Brave Writer in the winter too. I'm loving her blog!

Hello Heather! Heard about you from Sean from Think Media! I’m also a homeschooling mom and really enjoyed this quick video! I’m currently immersed into learning more about the Charlotte Mason Philosophy and one of my favorites so far is “For the Children’s Sake”. I’m off to binge on your other videos!!!! Have an amazing week!

I recommend "The first year of homeschooling your child" by Linds Dobson. This book breaks down all the different styles that people talk about (unschooling, traditional, charlotte mason ect) then it gives tips for schooling children who have attendrd a regular school and what to expect. I frequently reread this book!

Oh YES! That one is a good read too! I loved how it gave an overview of the styles. That was really helpful when I first started looking into homeschooling.

You're welcome. I love reading all the different homeschool books. Not that I want to do all that they say but just to see that it can be done differently and it doesn't have to be that hard. :)

I'm the same way. I often steal bits and pieces but overall I just love learning about different styles and perspectives of teaching. So far I think we take a lot from classical style. I think I will have to adjust for my son. He has autism so I will have to maybe have him walk while we work on reading. I'm still on the hunt for tips for classical teaching and special needs kids so if you come across anything in your browsing and don't mind please pass it along. :) Another good one for people considering homeschooling or just starting out is the Absolute Beginner's Guide to Home Schooling. www.christianbook.com/absolute-beginners-guide-to-homeschooling/brad-miser/9780789732774/pd/732774?dv=c&en=google&event=SHOP&kw=ingram-20-40%7C732774&p=1179710&gclid=CjwKEAiA3qXBBRD4_b_V7ZLFsX4SJAB0AtEVs8_pOsDGGvXUxIrqHxB5haodGDIikpAOm7edHsbRIhoCRBTw_wcB

Ha ha we live next to a small airport AND an Air Force base so I feel you’re pain. We do more of an unschooling, self directed style but with guidance so the three R’s book sounds interesting.

is there a book or resource that shows basic scope and sequence for each grade?
@HeatherTorresTV
@HeatherTorresTV 8 жыл бұрын
I found the Well Trained Mind book to be a good resource for grade specific learning. Also check out the series: Everything Your (fill in the grade level here) Should Know. It's based in the root of common core but is a valuable resource for grade specific scope and sequence. You should also check with your state to see if they have any requirements for each grade level. Remember the beauty of homeschool is getting to use these as a reference but don't beat yourself up if you missed something one year. You can always teach it at a later time. Focus on the fundamentals in the beginning and make learning fun! Teach your kiddos to learn HOW TO LEARN and you can then teach them anything. Hope that helps! Comment back if you checked those out and what you thought.

Are all curriculums for certain amount of weeks or a year worth. Just ordered Abeka DVD to start, but I want to go with just curriculum next year. I don't like it that they are in screens so long.
@HeatherTorresTV
@HeatherTorresTV 7 жыл бұрын
Most curriculums will come with a certain amount of weeks. We don't really follow them in our homeschool. Once we finish a set of things we just move to the next one. We homeschool year round but do things like take off a month at a time at Christmas and only school 3 days a week during the summer.
