Playing this build for the first time on tactician and it’s absolutely god tier. It really comes alive when you get the band of the mystic scoundrel, which lets you cast cc spells as a bonus action. I laugh a lot while playing it because it’s so ridiculously strong. EDIT: Just finished the vid and have some recommendations on gear for those interested in getting the most out of this build. The ones recommended aren’t bad but there’s a few pieces I think are worth mentioning that will take this to the next level. 1. Band of the mystic scoundrel. This is a must have item imo. As mentioned above it allows you to cast a cc spell as a bonus attack after landing your first attack. Imagine you attack, then use command approach on 2 enemies to bring them to you, then use slashing flourish and hit two enemies at once with smite. Also, imagine attacking, then casting hold person on multiple enemies, then attacking again. HIGHLY recommend adding this. 2. Gloves of dexterity. Can get in act one and the extra initiative is massive for this build. 3. Boots of stormy clamour. Best in slot for that reverberation. 4. Amulet of the devout. Plays well with your cc bonus attacks. Best in slot amulet. 5. Helm of arcane acuity. Similar to the amulet, this is another must have for keeping concentration on your cc’s. 3. Giantslayer is great but might be closer to end of act 3 before you can win that fight. In the meantime go for Nyrulna. It absolutely rips and it’s right next to the band of mystic scoundrel. Plus it looks amazing. Enjoy :)

To take it even one step further, making a few evil choices leads to some of the best items for this build. 1) Shars spear or evening is insane for this build. You can use command approach and edge of darkness 5 enemies at once and smite them all if need be. Using the spell hunger of hadar, (you will be immune due to the spear) you can do even more damage and you make enemies enter your domain. 2) Bhaals armour. You can buy this in act 3. It increases piercing damage by a lot. If you have someone else using nyrulna next to you, they get the buff also. I killed Raphael without him even getting a chance to attack. You mentioned helmet of acuity already, but that is a very important item. It makes your spells hit rate 99/100% once you gain some acuity.

I had initially planned on testing this out for just a little while, and eventually turning on the quick leveling mod to just see the features. However, having never played Bard before, I ended up finding myself doing a whole playthrough with it. Now that I’m level 12, and with this build with a couple minor tweaks (two weapon for majority of game till I got the legendary rapier, now dueler, and dual hand crossbows) What a beast of a build. Helmet of Arcane Acuity and Band of Mystic Scoundrel are hardcore OP for this… but man do I love it My current party is one I might have to try out on an honor mode I’ve also been using your 6ancients/6life cleric build along side it (with two handed weapon) and MAN. Smite the crap out of something, THEN heal the crap (and bless, thank you Volo ring) on a bonus action) is REALLY great. All while having spirit guardians up. What a beast. That plus a 12 level wizard built for Magic missile (bit that gear also works really well for the other evocation spells) And then I switch out my Gloomstalker with various other characters - mostly for dialogue options. Bout to test Minsc as a melee hunter ranger build and see how that goes

This is the build I jumped to after the Honor mode nerf of my Oathbreaker/ GOO Bladelock. Its a great build and plays through the game really nice with a big power spike at 6 and 8. I play mine STR with GWM in Heavy Armor but you can absolutely go Dex or Sword and Board. There is even precedence for a bow based build as a bow like titanstring gives you a ton of versatility. Swords bard might be the strongest subclass in BG3.
@thornelson141111 ай бұрын

@bobnewkirk700311 ай бұрын
@@thornelson1411 yep. 2 for the smites, 10 for all the goodies. you end up with a ton more slots and can even take your magical secrets to get the bard exclusive Banishing Smite. There are a bunch of jumping off points, but 8 is pretty critical as you will have both swords Extra Attack (6), and the 2 points for Smite. Prior to that full Swords is my preference but its just that, preference.

14:35 Re: friends cantrip. BE AWARE in honour mode that when friends falls off, you may be re-accused of a crime (if a friendly NPC has caught you stealing and you use friends to talk yourself out of it) or a person you've convinced not to attack you may _still_ attack you when it falls off (for example, if you use friends to talk to Rogan in the cave near gnolls, when it falls off, even if you properly convinced him of something, what may happen is he'll turn around and attack you when the friends spell drops off, as happened to me just yesterday). I don't know if it's intended for HM or a bug (because I have not had this happen at any other difficulty) , but my HM bard has just stopped using it, because it's too risky.
@Muyshtic11 ай бұрын
In the spell description it says on higher difficulties people may accuse you of enchanting them, which is Tacticion and Honour mode. It's kinda useless on anything besides Balanced and Story mode since you can stack other proficiencies or have Thaumaturgy instead, even more so on HM run since you can't save scum unless you know absolutely know which people you can hse Friends on without them turning on you

Hmm... Not sure if it's just a coincidence, but 2/10 Paladin/Bard was being called out in the comments in the previous "Best Paladin Multiclass?" video as being one of the *actual* strongest builds in the game. Races matter too. For Honor Mode Halfling is by far the best for consistency (nearly impossible to roll a 1, which essentially doubles your crit chance too), and Half-Orc is the best for Smite damage, especially when you force crits through Hold Person. Narrative options: You don't need to pick Githyanki at character select. Just use Disguise Self. Similarly with all racial weapons. If you want the bonus you get for being a particular race, just use that spell. Somehow an illusion tricks the weapons. 😅 Also, IMO the most useful level 1 Bard spells are: Faerie Fire (especially if you're going to be using GWM), Longstrider, Talk to Animals, Featherfall and Healing Word. You can get two of them from potions and one of them from a camp buffer, but these are more convenient to simply have on your character since the rest of the level 1 spell picks just aren't that great, especially those that require concentration. Knock a single enemy prone, or give your whole party advantage on multiple enemies? Sleep is pretty much worthless after level three for the most part, and you can get a much better version of it through Glyph of Warding. Hardest part about this build is deciding the first six levels: staying with Bard right from the start gets you to College of Swords faster and also gives you extra attack at level six. Picking Paladin early delays College of Swords and spell progression and gives you heavy armor, extremely limited spell slots for smite and the use of two-handed weapons. It's a tad squishier, but going with Bard first gives you more flexibility early on (and a feat faster), and you can either go dual hand-crossbows until you respec, or just use Phalar Aluve with GWM. Early on though, dual crossbows are just generally stronger. Both of them get a +10 to damage and you will reliably be getting kills with them more than you will be trying to run around the map with GWM, fishing for that free attack. Since flourishes come back on short rest as well, and you get a total of three rests with Bard, going Bard first is actually way more damage overall than a Paladin with your extremely limited spell slots that only recover on a long rest. Smite numbers are cool, but when you're only bursting a very few times and then you're "out", it's not worth taking Paladin first just for that. Lastly, dumping WIS is not a good idea, especially on Honor Mode. Should always be a minimum of 10, but usually higher if you can spare the points. You don't need to start at 17 CHA either. 16 is more than sufficient. You don't even really need more than 18 with this build either. Your two feats should be GWM/Sharpshooter and Alert (unless using Gloves of Dexterity, then just go with ASI/Actor then).
@HuyNguyen-ck7hl Жыл бұрын
Agree. I like to start out as range damage dealer. Dual hand xbows will keep pace with melee. Lvl 3 - range flourish + bonus attack -> 3 attacks with ability mod for hit and damage (take TWF when you choose Swords subclass) Lvl 4 - add sharpshooter feat (will require some mgmt to offset hit penalty) Lvl 5 - restore flourishes on short rest so you can spam them Lvl 6 - 2 attacks -> 2 flourishes + bonus attack is 5 attacks one target with sharpshooter damage on top for multiple rounds Lvl 7 - dip into pally Lvl 8 - you can respec if you want heavy armor proficiency I like to start bard b/c you can also be the skill monkey (traps/locks) as well as party face (Friends helps) which frees up party composition (u don’t have to take another rogue). Also agree on don’t dump Wisdom. I prefer a glass cannon build as it increases your ability to kill things quicker (the best damage mitigation there is) and increases your utility outside combat as well (again, freeing up party comp options).

For Simplicity, I REALLY prefer Paladin 6 (Oath of Vengence)/ Bard 6 (College of Lore) You do NOT get the crazy magic options of Bard 10, BUT you can still cast HASTE, Cutting Words is an amazing addition for a defensive character, and you get your 2 attacks per round; which to me see necessary. It also give you additional skills expertise as a main character, and doesn't give you quite as many crazy abilities to amange; which for a beginner can be overwhelming. BTW, I moved here after finally getting a bit bored of Warhammer 3 Total War. Glad to see your content here as well! Excellent taste in VG. :)

The problem I have with paladins smite is that it expands spell slots really quickly, so that you nuke enemy and go long rest. On the other hand bardic inspiration refreshes on short rest, so it is not worth to rest so often, just to keep paladin useful. Currently I am using Minthara for similar build (2 lvl paladin for smite, rest in bard colleage of sword), but dumped charisma and instead of strengh I maxed dexterity and condition. 2 levels in paladin means I won't be using any auras (therefore high charisma is not beneficial) and bard spells are focused on pure utility (longstrider, invisibility, plant growth etc). This is actually just a back up, because all spell slots are used for smiting, due to gear focused on decreasing critical range. Pros of this build are high initiative and AC, good melee damage, decent ranged damage and utility provided by ritual spells. I can also use bardic inspiration to buff my main character. Cons is that it is rather late game build, but on the other hand I was testing various option and come up to this build in Act3. It works really well on honour dificullty

A Bardadin is a good option as a PC and one that I strongly considered for my current playthrough. The only problem I had when trying to plan my build was when to take the 2 paladin levels, start as a paladin then go bard for level 3 onward, start as a bard and multiclass at 4 so I'm a swords bard, or wait till level 7 so I have extra attack and some 2nd and 3rd level slots to smite and cast spells with. In the end I decide to just go pure swords bard and do a paladin multiclass in another playthrough lol.

I'd actually like to see some proper full party builds with classes and items that complement each other. It's not that having one cool and powerful character isn't fun, its just that items are limited and I think there's a lot of things that can be done with full party builds, whether it's just something fun and thematic, or something seriously power-gamey where every multiclass and item choice is carefully optimized to get the biggest bang for your buck from the whole party rather than just one character. The most obvious thing would be four characters each built with a particular element in mind. Actually, now that I think about it, some different variations on the classic fighter/cleric/wizard/rogue party would be more obvious. How about three monks led by a cleric? Don't have to be pure monks, just one from each subclass. A band of bards using the power of rock and/or roll to defeat evil. Or sew it. I'm currently heading for 6 Spruid/6 Necro Tav, 12 War Cleric Shadowheart, 7 Oathbreaker/5 Warlock Wyl, and 3 Thief/3 Storm Sorc/6 Sword Bard Astarion (metamagic a scroll, fly to a better spot, go to town). Why? Because Undedz are awesome but they're even better when they're surrounded by support. An Evoker, an Abjurer, a Diviner, and a Necromancer (see above) all have Telekinesis to throw Zombies. A Drow Diviner, a Halfling Arcane Trickster, a Gith Eldritch Knight, and a Tiefling Bardlock walk into a bar. Land Druid, Moon Druid, Beastmaster, Gloomstalker. Who am I kidding here? Two Moon Druids and Two Beastmasters. You don't even have to go full party. Sometimes you can spread gear between two people for great synergies.

The Gith are similar to Nazis because they are trained from birth as warriors and taught that they are above everyone else, similar to the Nazi's beliefs of the Aryan master race.

Agree, love the Bardadin concept. I like the Charlatan theme b/c it sets you up as the skill monkey for locks/traps as well as more a fast talking/tricky type orator. Edit: saw you are starting pally so Charlatan won’t make sense.

What if the Charlatan part was him trying to infiltrate the evildoers? 🤔

@@arekpetrosian4965 If you feel like you can RP it, then I would say go for it. I normally start Bard when I go Bardadin so it’s easy to justify/rationalize.

I like watching your videos but to be honest "to feel powerful" i don't like to wait until act 3 where finally my multiclass starts to pay-off. Considering i finish act 2 at level 7, that is probably %60 of the game with for example, level 2 paladin and level 3-4-5 bard. That is actually what i liked in BG2 charcter builds, It started at 7 and ended up in 25-30 level something. What i am saying, i will be happy when people start building a characther that is not depending on items and level 12 multiclass distribution. I don't know, a level 3 fighter multi to level 2 something and level 2 dip to somethat... That is more attractive of an idea for me. These are all to my humble pleasure and opinions, ofcourse. Still, one of the better build video makers out there. I am just whining in a friendly manner.

You must have skipped a lot of stuff. I just finished act 2 at level 10, and this build gets pretty strong at 8 from what I've experienced so far.
@ArdaUnhail11 ай бұрын
@@TheSneakyKorean I have played the game so many times, i have no stomach for %100'ing everytime i start it again. Level 8 is more than enough to see through act 1-2 tactician without headache and it can be done in lower levels if you don't mind cheesing battles a little bit. I just want to relax and play new builds at the moment but not many builds worth losing an extra attack or a higher level of casting. So far i only liked fighter2-sporedruid6 dual wielder for extra damages, it can one-round many enemies up until Thorm, and if range needed, just can cast spells. At the 25-30th hour of playing with same build i start to get bored and restart. I haven't found that many multiclassess works better than single classess in which timespan i spend majority of my game time. Thus, i would appreciate if someone made content about some level 6-7-8 multiclasses that i could enjoy.

paladin can be good but I won't recommend any beginner to play one. there're just so many burden unless you plan to do oathbreaker. even so, you give up the chance to respec and trying on different classes/builds. (it's not impossible, its just inconvenient and so yes impossible for beginner)

Bard is so un-fun to me. My other characters can easily pass these dice checks, bard is completely overkill for less damage/utility than other classes.

This build doesn’t even come online until level 8. Until then you are a glass cannon with terrible hit chance. Once it all comes together you’re the hardest hitting build in the game on an evil run. Until then just go pure paladin.
@Neonmirrorblack Жыл бұрын
I guess you've just never played College of Swords then, because they are one of the highest damage dealers with their flourishes starting at level three as well as getting dual-wielding for free and using hand-crossbows early on. The only build that really beats it (purely for damage, but not in general) early would be a TB Throw build at level four. Most of the other good builds require many more levels to come "online". Bards can compete in damage AND actually be the best CC class in the game (early Act 2) without any real competition at the same time. Plus, scrolls exist.
@Neonmirrorblack Жыл бұрын
@@Brim_the_Wizard Or just go pure Bard and use hand crossbows until level six. That's actually the path of least resistance since a) you don't need to move nearly as much, b) you get to use your bonus action way more reliably and c) you increase the damage of the party way more granting advantage through Fearie Fire instead of just adding a 1d8 from Smite. The funny thing about this video is that he entirely skipped the really broken combo this build does: it's a CC monster that sets up its own crits. From Magical Secrets you should pick Counterspell (doesn't matter if you have ONE other class with it, you need a surplus of them) and Command. Command does not use concentration, so you can use Hold Person to set up crits, and use command at the same time upcast to stop 4-6 other targets.
