Hayvok 64 If you'd have seen Psycho when it was first released, you would've classed it as a horror movie. My Dad saw it then, and he said it shit everyone up. The real reason why people now don't class it as horror is because the genre in itself has evolved into excess in all areas, and the audience is used to that. But Psycho was, and still is, a horror.

jacob anderson, and Chris Joseph, The Evil Dead proved something that Nightmare couldn't. You can make a reboot good. Nightmare's reboot tanked and that's because Robert Englund wasn't playing Freddy and giving his charisma to the character, while Evil Dead had a reboot without even a sign of Bruce Campbell, until the very end, yet did exceptionally well. Nightmare had its fair share of campy fun, but it still tried to keep a somewhat serious tone. Evil Dead realized its campy nature was its greatest attribute and ran to Hell and back with it. Army of Darkness is so full of one-liners, a lot of people are quoting it without even realizing where those lines came from.

Totally agree. It iconified the whole Cabin in the Woods trope; it does not have a bad movie amongst the bunch; its REMAKE was good and worked on its own level; even its TV series is just all kinds of awesome (Freddy got his own briefly, Friday's was an in-name-only, Scream apparently still has one going). Yeah, Evil Dead totally should have won this.

I would argue that The Living Dead series has had a bigger cultural impact than almost any other horror franchise. It invented the modern notion of what a "zombie" is and created the zombie genre and cultural phenomena that we know today. A lot of cities have "zombie walks" and we have things like The Walking Dead and 28 Days Later (also an iconic horror film) because of it.

I always had this theory that graham newman pointed out. If a mistery/thriller kind of film is good, it's not considered horror. If it's bad, then it's just another horror movie. Knock Knock is horror, Funny Games isn't. The Ward is horror, Shock Corridor and Shutter Island aren't. The Uninvited is horror, Persona isn't. Hannibal Rising is horror, Silence of the Lambs isn't... and so it goes. Talk about an underappreciated genre.

Lucas li.q Silence of the Lambs isn't horror because it is actually a psychological thriller. The movie isn't made to scare you, just to keep you in suspense as you see if they can solve the case.

Phillip Bullock I think they considered the Evil Dead remake. So if you do not include The Army of Darkness, there would still be 3 movies. (Evil Dead 1 and 2 and remake) Also, Annabelle is a spin off so technically it's not Conjuring part 3. That's just my thinking but you can also be technically correct.

Romero's Living Dead series is by far the best out of all of these contenders. To have three films so iconic, with strong messages and great satire (or less satire and more blunt dehumanization of the humans in Day of the Dead, but I think it's necessary considering the progression of the series and the infection) that are so successful and celebrated as they are, then to make a brilliant return to form 20 years after Day of the Dead (although Diary was only pretty good and Survival wasn't so great, but Land of the Dead belongs high up with the original trilogy) is a feat that I don't think anyone else has ever accomplished in any genre (eat your heart out George Lucas). On top of that, with an alright remake (which would have been much better had the producers not butchered Savini's vision, I'm fairly certain) of the original, and a great remake of Dawn which stands very well on its own while not being too close to the original that it's unnecessary, few horror movie franchises have had so much success and appreciation, and even fewer have been as undeniably iconic as the Living Dead series.

I completely agree, while I would have liked to see Evil Dead make it to the final as it's my own personal favourite of those franchises, Living Dead is still the superior series not just for its quality, variety and iconography but of course the chances are that without Romero's movies Rami would have never created his franchise.

well. that is debatable. i mean, you might think that asian horror movies are better than western ones, but you have to think, shitty asian horror movies probably wont make it overseas into america translated in subtitles there is definitely a different approach from the different countries, but im just saying, you might be unintentionally comparing all the good asian horror movies you have seen, which has given you a high average, with the range of western ones you have seen, which has given you a lower average due to you living in the country and seeing the schlock along with the great films
