If only I had figured it out 3 hand augers ago I would have saved myself a lot of money

I’ll never buy another hand auger! Just wish I hadn’t wasted so much money on cheap mora and strikemaster augers

That auger is the best I have seen, would not believe how fast you drilled that hole if I had not seen it myself. So how was the fishing then?
@therealfarwater2 жыл бұрын
Agreed! Can’t wait to get it out again, soon. Fishing was tough that day but I did catch one decent laker. Returned to the spot and caught two more the next time out. That’ll be my next video release, hopefully soon!

This thing cuts! My only concern is that last ice season we were getting up to 30+ inches of ice. Do you think it’s length would be an issue?
@therealfarwater Жыл бұрын
Last year was the coldest and snowiest winter in a LONG time up here and I had no problem at all. I don’t think I ever had to drill through anything over 32” or so
@aaronalto30342 жыл бұрын
Agreed, they are the best. I tried to sell Abbey and Kyle on getting one, and found them a nice price, but they're saving for a house and held off. I've got the 6 that you can power by drill or hand and have had it for like 15 yrs. Did you strike out on trout or is the vid coming?
@therealfarwater2 жыл бұрын
I really like the 8” for piece of mind (bigger fish and not having to worry about Ice up as much) but the 6” sure is slick. I don’t fish outside the BWCA much but the drill adapter is really nice when I do. I did have some luck on this trip-I’m hoping the video will be out in the next week or so, so stay tuned. That’ll be my last ice fishing video of the year then I’ll be switching to open water footage. I’ve got some exciting stuff coming from last year-very excited!!

@@therealfarwater Do you have, or have you fished with anyone that has a Marcum Pursuit HDL camera? I'm thinking of getting one, but wondering how they are with heavy snow/ ice conditions like we have now and can often have up here? My local retailer won't allow any return on a purchase and am scared it'll not work for what I want to see. Any insights or opinions? Thanks.

You say in the video that it's made in the USA. According to people at Nils USA, these are from the Heinola factory in Finland. The brand name used to be Rantanen UR. Can you confirm?
@therealfarwater2 жыл бұрын
Hmmmm, it looks like I might have been confused. Nils USA must import them from Finland-I’ll have to look into it and get back to you

Pretty cool, I think my issue would be it's size, I'm 5'7", I may have a hard time, it looks pretty big/long
@therealfarwater2 жыл бұрын
I’m only 5’9” so not that much taller than you. As you can see towards the end of drilling the hole, you really need that extra length when the ice is this thick. It’s definitely much easier when the handles are up by your head than down below your knees-you can see me start to struggle to get enough torque towards the end

I have the same auger and it rips! I attached it to my dewalt drill and it punches through like butter. Couple tips with it are to be very careful with the blades, my brother cut himself on it pretty easily. Also be gentle with it and make sure youre not on sand! Ive dulled one or bent a blade and it's almost useless when they get messed up... they are pretty finicky, just take care of it and you'll be fine. Would hate to not be able to drill a hole when you're out fishing! Also the yellow cover sucks, I saw on a forum to use a strikemaster cover. It fits like it was made for it!
@therealfarwater2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tips! I hit a rock with my 6” the first time I used it and almost cried. I was able to sharpen it myself but it never cut the same-I’ll send it in to get sharpened this off-season. I agree that the head cover sucks, why can’t companies figure this out it’s not rocket science!?!

$230 😀My bass pro shop (manual) auger plowes threw 12 inches of ice in less than 50 seconds. Cost me $45 👍
@therealfarwater2 жыл бұрын
Whatever works for you, my dude! I will say that 12” is a lot different from 2’. Pretty much any auger will drill through 12” in under a minute. To be able to drill through 2’ of ice by hand, over and over is a whole different ballgame, which is why the Nils is the only I’d recommend.

@therealfarwaterАй бұрын
@@SteveSutherland-n5l nope, but I live on the edge of the BWCA where power augers are not allowed, so that’s not an option for me

get the adaptor and put a drill on it and youve got the fastest cutting auger...youd have done 24" in 24 seconds.
@therealfarwaterАй бұрын
About 90% of my ice fishing trips are into the BWCA where power augers are not allowed, otherwise I’d be using a drill and adapter.
