I still love seeing y'all ask the locals the proper way to eat their food. It is such a sign of respect and I think that is why you have had luck with kind people teaching you. (P.S. I know this was 3 years ago now)

Pero Perhan : Do you know that harappan people knew about copper, gold, silver and bronze. There is a mauryan iron pillar in delhi which has not got rust till now. In Gupta age we had knowledge of construction, medicine, astronomy, ayurveda, mathematics, surgery etc. There are numerous example which tells us that India was a flourishing country with vast knowledge but our forefathers didn't misuse the knowledge and technology which they had. So next time don't try to demean anybody without proper knowledge.

Kara and Nate The restaurant you visited is serving Tamil cusine, from Tamil Nadu a state in southern India. Almost all restaurants, small eateries here will serve the food in banana leaves, or at least in plates with banana leaves on top.

I can say in India there are many places in south, where they have a menu called 'meals' its a standard one and they generally have only that menu at a particular time (afternoon) in the day. Probably thats the reason they started serving you.

eating on banana leaf has lot of medicinal values bro it increases the taste of the food you eat that the reason we use not for the sake of cleaning or alternate to paper. it is also used as a security measure earlier for the kings because if there is any poison mixed in food because the leave immediately turns black so that is the reason too.

No doing this and that. He sat down on the grass anyway. After 30 sec. A voice came over a loudspeaker. You in the blue shirt sitting on the grass. Get up! No sitting on the grass! Regarding 5:25... Yes, that is the norm! Most probably it is a "thali" place, which serves "thali"/plate with items/dishes chosen by the restaurant for that meal time and which provides unlimited refills/servings of the items on the "thali", especially if it is a "full meal thali" kind of place. You might have noticed that every customer got the same items on his/her thali. BTW, you still could've ordered an extra dish to go along with the thali, but thali will still be the centerpiece of the meal.
