Loved this! I’m full on American with nothing but Dutch ancestry living in a Dutch-American town where we still have loads of Ollie-bollen, stroopwaffles, poffertjes & herring. Don’t forget split pea soup, raisin buns with Gouda & chocolate Letter shapes at Christmas and a little banket (almond stick) on the side. So proud of our amazing Dutch heritage....someday I’ll get back to our motherland! But this was a fun “taste” of what I’ve known all along....the Dutch sure know how to eat!!😋 Thanks for sharing!🚲

Little late to the party here ☺ Bit of extra info about herring: we actually have a holiday for herring here in Scheveningen. It's called Vlaggetjesdag (Flag day), around half june, and traditionally it was to celebrate the fishermen going out to sea to catch the herring. They went out to catch the Nieuwe haring (New herring). New herring isn't baby fish, but called so because it ate itself fat again after having barely any food in winter, so newly fat I guess. Nowadays they catch way more herring and it's frozen straight away on the fisherboats and distributed to the fish vendors. Who then thaw it when there's need for it (so they don't refreeze the fish later). Every vendor has their own way of thawing and preparing the fish, which makes the taste a little different between on place and the other.

So glad you are back. Frikadeller (sp) is not a hot dog, it is more like a fried meatloaf but burger shaped usually made with veal, pork and beef. I grew up eating them but they are best eaten the next day, cold and on toast. If you are ever in my neck of the woods, I'll make you some.

Hey I just stumbled uppon your video. I'm dutch myself and the coins you ate in the video are not to chew on but to suckle on it to pass the time but mostly to prevent your throath and moutj from drying out when you're working long hours. The best way to make sure you get all the foods is to actually ask for locations Tom poes (Tom cat) are the base for tompouce name and are mostly sold at HEMA stores, I saw them in a clip so you passed by them several times. Frikandel is a mixed-meat product that's deep-fried, unlike a hotdog it has no outer skin. (the closest to a hotdog the dutch have is knakworst that are about the size of a finger) you wont find a single store or stall that sells Stampot, its a buffet or home style meal that is basically mashed potatoes with vegetables, ranging from kale to carrots and unions. If you ever return, ask on your channel a few weeks beforehand, and odds are at least 1 person is willing to make you stampot or tell you how to make one during downtime.

Black liqurice is the original liqurice. Liqurice got it's name from the plant liqurice it is made from. The other stuff amerkicans have is just sweets,gummy. In Norway Liqurice is sacred. We eat an insane amount of it. :D Frikadellen is like meatballs not hot dogs in Denmark and that is just a stone trow away. :o

Hey guys, as a dutch citizen i can tell you a frikandel is nothing like a hotdog. Next time you come here order a Frikandel Speciaal. And a more traditional Dutch food is the saucijzen broodje. Not a broodje with carspachio. 😊 oh and next time at a fish stand you could try Kibbeling or lekkerbekje. 😊😊

Fun fact: The dutch brought the 'oliebollen' to America. But the Americans didn't like the doughy inside so they made a hole in it to cook it more evenly. That's how the donut was born. Btw you should have gone just for the normal 'oliebol' instead of that one with 'pudding'

3:40 altho we usually eat it the way your guys do, theres a more traditional way to eat raw herring. its called "haring slikken" (translated to english it sounds very akward). you hold the whole herring up by the tail and eat it like that with onions or salt, it looks like the weird sword swallowing trick magicians do.
