Nicole and I are attempting to live off the grid in British Columbia, Canada. We have 8 acres of forest property sandwiched in between the Pacific Ocean, a fresh water lake, and a stream which flows year round from the lake into the ocean. For over nearly 10 years I grew a fruit tree, permaculture, garden, and native edible plant, herb, and raised bed garden food forest. You can still watch all the garden videos of my old desert garden in Arizona. I was born in British Columbia and I have returned to the Rain Forests of British Columbia to a "Raw Land" property to grow my 1st FULL EDIBLE FOOD FOREST Off Grid on a wilderness property. This climate is temperate and coastal, rarely seeing snow in the winter and highs in the 80's (30 Celsius) in the summer. It is a rare microclimate that spans from gardening zone 7-9. The property is 8 acres and completely overgrown, mostly with conifer trees. This area is a verifiable rain forest and situated in the Southwestern-most tip of the Canadian "Great Bear Rain Forest". NicHolistic ( / holisticnicole ) and I will be learning about edible seaweeds, edible native plants, edible mushrooms, and many other edible native trees/plants as we attempt to Build a Yurt, Draw Our Energy Clean, Live Off the Grid, and Grow an Epic Superfoods Garden and Fruit Tree Orchard. We will also have a lot of changes coming so get ready. More videos and BTS Clips at my VLOG channel / adventureswjakenicole

soy is a GMO not good for human consumption. also for men do your research... Soy can also alleviate hot flashes for some menopausal women. However, there have been some concerns that soy might lower a man's testosterone levels. This is because the active ingredients in soy - isoflavones - are phytoestrogens - plant-based compounds that behave much like estrogens.

Steve Bensonite - don’t be a jerk man. You don’t need to watch. They are working hard in a rough situation. She is pretty young, cut her some slack. They’ll harden up living out there for a couple of years and probably end up more real than you. I located them too, but you don’t need to try and ruin it champ, it doesn’t make you special. You trying to compensate for something? Do you really hate yourself??

Jake & Nicole - We were starting to wonder if you were ok as there was not a video for over a week while Nicole had a couple. Glad to see you are in beard recovery mode - definitely makes you look more mature and "off-griddy". Great video with a lot of variety. Now that you have a home your videos will probably include a lot more variety and less build, build build... which is a good thing. While we (and probably all your viewers) want to see you progress on your homestead, there are no doubt a multitude of other things that you want to do with your time; especially now that the beautiful summer weather is approaching. Love the dinghy wheels and bimini on the boat. Not too many sandy beaches around that area to roll up on, but an isolated inlet somewhere with a bit of a beach can make for a nice private picnic spot. As always, we are looking forward to the next video and seeing what major project you are going to prioritize next! Lance & Carol - Victoria

My thought too. We have them here dropping off trees and in the grass, and on every plant. Found one on my side. Lucky I caught it right away. Alcohol, then tea tree oil. It is almost gone now. No bullseye. So I was very lucky ! Be careful and check often. The little vampires are stealthy and everywhere ! I made a quick sure fire deterrent. Dollar store 13 gallon trash bags on each foot with rubber bands to secure them up as high as they will go. Just below the knee. Be careful walking. Very slippery. BUT NO TICKS WERE FOUND AT DAYS END !

I don't know how hot it gets there in the summer, but have you thought of putting in a solar ceiling fan to help with air circulation? Another item that would help with lighting at night are solar mason jar lids that include a string of led fairy lights. Just set the jars out on the steps during the day and bring them in at night to help light the yurt.
@KFetner

@@s1iznc1d34 I may be wrong, but I believe that a ceiling fan can be reversed to blow up. Or maybe use a vent fan facing it to blow up. That's what I had in mind.

The point of the wheels is so you don't have to get wet. You put the wheels on the back of the transom then motor up on to the shore bow first, not stern first. You then climb out the bow onto the beach. then you pick up the bow and pull the boat up the beach with the weight of the motor as a lever to make it much easier. As well with the wheels down you can use the motor to reverse off the beach, You don't want to be getting wet then drive the boat in the cold you will freeze to death from the wind chill. Stay dry. The bow of the boat is meant to hit the beach at a slow speed. so don't worry about it getting damaged. Enjoy the boat.

Definitely the beard Jake. Clean shaven is military discipline, which is great but overkill especially in the woods where Nature's vibes pushes towards a move forgiving balanced appearance. Super great vids to both of you, well balanced and useful, especially the micro greens. You can't say enough about Natural enzymes from organic living soil, as giving the body the perfect fuel is so necessary. The juiceman taught me about live enzymes and if you need a big fix, juicing will give you a huge shot of raw nutrients. It's a lot of work but necessary a couple times a month depending on what your body is telling you. Otherwise you guys are looking awesome.

I am not off grid but the cost of power where I am at (south Point area called Ocean View) it's very cheap but I am looking into solar for the future.. Enjoy watching you two work and create your vision and your thoughts, very refreshing. Jim

I do organic black oil sunflower seed and tendril pea shoot microgreens in my apartment. I plant my seeds way more dense though. It is like a carpet of sunflower sprouts. They taste super nutty and delicious. I have actually been to your old house in Arizona for a garden tour before. I was eying the pomelo in the yard lol.

Awesome way of life guys! I really enjoy watching folk's vids of this lifestyle. Side note, nose the boat in to shore, jump on and off from there. Less exposure to water when it gets cold.

I purchased that four panel set from Harbor Frit. Rite out of the box it was broken. Cheap plastic junk. Took it right back and the salesman said "want another box " ? I said "refund please " ! Got my cash back ! Not worth the effort. Its a classroom type of experiment kit. The Renergy is better , but still not enough to live off grid with. There are nice vaccume tube hot water panels that make steamy hot water even on cloudy days. Check them out. No pumps or electricity required. You could heat the yurt and have tons of hot water for cooking and bathing !

Think about hugelkultur. You have an abundance of rotting logs that would be great for building the mounds.

awesome gifts, you are so fortunate your country is progressive and allows cannabis growing...I am in special ed for solar, I keep reading the books to understand...maybe a few more times and I can tell the difference between a charge controller and inverter, modified vs pure sine wave, etc...I can not wait to see you install wind turbines

I'm so excited to see everything you both have accomplished already with lots more cool stuff coming. The Beauty of the land is incredible!!! Jake I originally found you through High Carb Hannah's YT chan., and was blown away by your garden in Phoenix, the other day while showing her garden she gave you a shout out, and I thought to myself I better go see what Jake is up to these days and WOW!!! Life is always guaranteed to give you CHANGE'S but you are making such amazing things happen and I wish you both LOVE PEACE and JOY!!!

I knew a guy that made his own wind turbine. he made the blades himself, it mechanically turned an automotive alternator and charged a car battery pretty easily. The new ones though are actually really good and being near the ocean youlll probably get tons of power if you clear an little breeze way. MORE CARDBOARD!!! The yurt is cool and all...but it would be cooler if you make cardboard forts inside of it!

👍 You can make wood ash for the garden from the undergrowth and thin branches, do not let it burn completely to ashes, so that enough charred wooden parts are still preserved - similar to the charcoal in Terra Preta, the charred parts have a huge surface for water storage in the Summer! Greetings from Austria!

Beard for Winter and clean shaven for Summer, except when the midges are in force as clean skin means more bites unless you wear a bug cover.

Hey I have a boat just like this 14ft BRIS w/25hp and the bimini👍. You should also look into warmer temperature lighting. The blue fatigues the eyes. The higher the K(Kelvin) number the bluer the light. Lower K LEDs are warmer. 3000k-5000k will set the right warmth of light in your yurt.
