Dude seriously thank you so much. I'm about to build a pc when the new gpu's drop, but I haven't gamed on a pc since like the Doom and Duke Nukem days in the 90's on a Packard Bell. If you are getting 5Ghz at just 1.275v, why don't you push it further? You could probably get 5.3 @ ~1.375 at that rate.

@@BIOHAZARDXXXX Honestly, there is no need for 5.1 GHz at all cores. No game uses all cores at 100%. You are just wasting about 50 watts of electricity for nothing. Turbo boost should be good enough. Just watch the stock vs overclock 10700k benchmarks. In most games it doesn't make any difference at all.

After long consideration I went with the Asus Proart. I don't overclock and I don't game at all. It's mostly workstation loads. And since my PC is in a separate room from my desk area I can replace all the cabling between my PC and my desk with just a thunderbolt connection. On top of that I can run an extra M.2 SSD for my Adobe Lightroom library next to my boot drive. It's the perfect board for my setup really.

I'm rocking the Asus ROG STRIX Z490-F and I'm loving it, didn't wanna spend too much, and I hate MSI's BIOS (and I'm familiar with the ROG one), so I went with this board. Only complaint is that the RGB logo looks more green than yellow (I set it to yellow in AURA sync).

I picked up the Maximus XII Hero with my i7-10700K. LOVE THIS MOTHERBOARD!! It has everything! Slapped that CPU in and was at 5.0ghz stable at 1.25V instantly. This was an upgrade from a Haswell i7-5930K at 4.3ghz that would piss itself at 4.4ghz. The Hero, 10700K, coupled with my 2080TI I'm seeing frames I didn't even know were possible! LOL.

Would be interesting to see an overclocking comparison between boards to see if I spent an extra 100 or 200 or 300 would it allow me to push my CPU overclock further. Starting at the 200-250 price point perhaps. So keep all other variables the same (CPU, RAM, PSU, cooling) and just change out the board. I realize this is probably a lot of work :) could include RAM overclocking as well.

I got the Vision D in a sale, £210 for my upgrade my coding and gaming station, I dont overclock and have a placeholder i5 10500 til 11th gen. I mainly got it for the amount of USBs and thunderbolt ports. Im getting great 1080p gaming and emulation on Yuzu with a GTX 1070, I might even try a hackintosh if i can nab a radeon cheap. I would have went AMD this build but 3600 stock shot up. Great video, really informative content and advice for all fields of computing work.

Another feature I found interesting on the Gigabyte ITX board was that it had four fan headers. Most ITX board only give you two: one for the CPU fan and one for a system fan. The Z490I has one cpu fan header and three system fan headers. If you actually want to run powerful hardware, you very often end up with more than one fan, and having multiple fan headers is nicer than using splitters or adapters. My current ITX system has a 140mm, a slim 120mm, and a 40mm fan all running off the single fan header on the motherboard using a couple splitters. It would have been nice to control them separately.

@13:00 SMT memory slots can handle higher overclocks than THT? uhh.. citation needed? That really shouldn't be the case with any halfway reasonable board design. THT should be better both thermally and electrically, it's just more annoying (and expensive) to manufacture with. Is it a noise consideration?

Yes, it's basically the "reflection" you have from overhanging trace or conductor. Same reason for where you put 2 sticks of ram on 4 slot daisy chain board.

Spot on on the MSI Z490-A Pro. Just got this board based on your recommendation and in 5 minutes had a 10600k at 5ghz and 32 gigs (4x8) of ram at 4266mhz stable. Funny enough, I was running the Z270-A Pro and thought I'd get a more feature-rich board for an upgrade.......guess not :D

@@navawtff lol not really. Intel z490 is good, but b550 is at least on par if not better. Really, does z490 offer pcie 4.0 at a reasonable price? no. Does z490 cost more for the same quality board? yes. Is z490 on a platform with many security issues? yes. b550 suffers from none of these problems and is better in most ways. The real world wants something besides a 5% lead in gaming and adobe suite.

Guys, maybe you can make a video about the difference in Z490 boards sound systems. I purchased the Asus Z490-G based on it's Wi-Fi and sound capability. I did not really care about its other features. There are boards with built-in DACs which outperform almost any ~$100 DAC available on the market. Even just an ALC1220 with dual amps outperforms FiiO K3 for example. I would like to learn more about that

The Asus Rog Strix Z490 E Gaming does recover quite well from failed memory overclocking and you don’t lose your settings. Also, the post code is awesome and should be on every board. The VRM fan that comes with this board is really stupid considering how it mounts. Took me forever to figure it out because I thought the book had to be wrong……….but it wasn’t. It’s like it was an afterthought 🥴………….oh yeah………let’s add this!

Hardware unboxed had made a video on z490 motherboards and he said that asrock z490 motherboards in the entry- level price range are badly designed and concluded to stay away from these boards according to his tests. While stress testing, some of these crashed, or throttled whereas the other motherboards passed with flying colors

laptops have a similar cooling system, but on laptops, it is used to cool the main cpu and gpu, but in this model, we can say that the VRMs are actively cooled by a fan, so it might be a bit more efficient than bigger heat sinks, assuming the fan is properly ventilated

@@shaneeslick it's their "enthusiast" lineup they actually try on. the matx equivalent is "mortar" and the mitx is "gaming plus ac". it's all vrm performance, no fluff like extra nvme slots and usb ports. it sucks for some people but there's a reason pcie expansion exists, and no it is not just video cards.

Revisiting this video since I just noticed one thing. While the Intel Z and B series boards get the most attention, the opposite happens with the H7 series (like H470), which I rarely see reviews from tech channels. I feel like I'm among that niche user base who don't OC but have a lot of stuff to plug into PCI-E slots plus multiple HDDs, and H7 boards seem to offer that better than B boards (at least the H97 I'm currently using clearly does that better than my dead B85 board for sure). It'll be interesting if there are some level of coverage for that in the future.

Wonder what 12+1+1 vs just 12+1 means. My MSI MPG Z490 Gaming Edge Plus WiFi has been great for OCing my 10700k. No issues with temps whatsoever. I'm diggin it. I'll step up to the next level on my next upgrade. I thought the Gaming Edge was perfect for the 10700k, for myself. I'm planning to build my first AMD ITX here soon, so that'll be fun. I live in India, and the prices of boards and other pc parts are inflated in online stores, and the offline stores are closed due to the current situation. Is there a solution I can work around this? I am a student, currently about to turn 16 years old, and wanted to build a PC when I was 6th grade, which was about 4 years ago. Since then, I've been doing a lot of research on PC Parts, and watching a lot of reviews from your channel and other youtube channels like Linus tech tips, Bitwit, hardware unboxed etc. During the time period, I had been saving a lot of money in every possible way, such as not asking for birthday presents, not spending money on a lot of unnecessary items, and not going outside that frequently, which feels difficult for me, as I get decent grades, and my friends who score lower do a lot of fun playing outside, and currently have high end laptops which cost around a thousand dollars and play for 2 to 3 hours a day, while I do the research and study. I am not like them and don't do gaming and usually do a bit of gaming in the weekends.. I asked my parents on when I will get to build my new PC, and they after the exams, but I didn't know about which exams. And then I seceretly heard them say after my 10th grade exams, which made me had a bad mood inside. Fast forwarding to March which is 4 months ago before writing this comment, my 10th grade final exams have been completed, and I was about to go but at the same time the lockdown has started in my area. I have no other options other than to wait, which I have been doing *since the PAST 4 years.* It feels like All of the years of research had gone to waste, and I had missed so many things, like not attending any hangouts my friends do, and not enjoying my life like my friends did. Even today I feel the same, and now I am starting to feel that my parents are not allowing me to build my own pc, which is a shame as I fixed their issues like replacing a dead hard drive and recovering the data from it due to an OS level problem, and also fixed some of my neighbor's computers. They still won't let me do a part time job, even if I still get good grades and not waste my time. Other than researching, I don't do any gaming, because I don't have a good laptop, and even if it is an older title that works well, I still don't play. This is the situation of me right now. A person who is willing to build a pc but have personal problems to overcome... Also, can you suggest me a way, while buying pc parts, that have "gaming" in the name, or some products that have are usually have gaming-centric names? Not that I do frequent gaming, but some parts, like the msi z490 gaming edge WiFi is a very good board for 200 dollars and have all the features I need with future proofing for a mainstream board, but the problem is that when my parents see that it is built for "gaming" and have things like some aggressive designs, they are relating it to something like an Xbox or playstation., which is bought entirely for gaming. Even while watching your videos, my parents think that I am watching gaming videos and wasting my time. @Gamers Nexus , if you are reading this comment, I hope that this comment was worth your time, because it took me an hour to write this comment, and also am a big time viewer of your channels. I don't know about anyone else but I currently run a B350 (business grade in other words), an X399 (high end threadripper) and a middle of the pack Asus Z370 motherboard and the USB 3 controllers on all of them have caused numerous issues. I'm really over USB and try moving everything onto PCIe now.

Now with the new MSI Gaming Plus Z490 motherboard out, what are your thought about it compared to the tomahawk and the gaming edge wifi? I'm going to run the Intel Core i9-10900K and RTX 3070 (hopefully) on it and i'm interested in the power delivery and the amount of ampere in the powerstages. Thanks in advance!

in Australia, the Z490 boards are about $100 more than the equivalent X570 boards - if you can get them at all.

I'm looking at my dated 5960x Haswell-E PC with 40 lanes of Intel goodness and 3 GTX980 Ti Classifieds in SLI and shed a tear looking at these new CPUs with only 16 lanes (10900K). What happened? Why does so much have to go through the Chipset now and add latency? This is progress???

These prices are what I remembered motherboards to be priced at but prices have radically gone up in Sweden. The $750 "does everything" mobo is closer to $1200 here. while the budget $200 Gigabyte Vision G is closer to $350.

LoL I loved hearing the frustration in your voice at the fact people are buying 700 dollar motherboards. I think everyone should have the Godlike board, it would solve just about every problem out there. Most people use their computers for more then one aspect that you've outlined here. Future proofing means less money spent overall

Good thing to find Buildzoid, the Z370 i bought was to cheap...the VRM heatsinks where flamin hot running a 8600k at 4.8ghz with 1.25vcore, was a good thing my cooling couldent handle over that because the VRMs would melt. Now i own a Gigabyte board with over the top VRM but the UEFI suck balls, next motherboard will for sure be Asus or MSI.

I want to know what TB3 controller those ITX boards are using... it makes a large difference concerning throughput. Also, no mention of Asrock’s Phantom Gaming ITX? That was the best ITX last gen...
