I am short torsoed, and I find I must sit when trying on jeans: some are designed so that the rise in the front is very uncomfortable, while the back waist plunges. It’s probably the shape of my rear, that there’s not enough curve. So when I sit, the front rides up above my rib cage. My advice is to make sure to sit, when you try on pants!!

A soft measuring tape is so important to own. Knowing one's front and back rise measurements really helps to get a great fit. Thank you for to your videos, they are vert educational.

Your content is awesome!!! Well presented and relatable. I am 5 feet tall and thankful for your info. I would get rid of trying to use music, it is too loud and too choppy. Stick to presenting the info and don’t worry if there is silence for a couple seconds when you show examples 👍🏻

Thank you for excellent advice. I thought I might pitch in with some tips I use too: I am 4.9 and a uk size 12/ european size 40 and somewhere between a apple and rectangle shape (I think). My upper arms, chest and back are on the large side - wich always is a problem with sleeves and fitting over my chest! Therefore I always have to size up😒But this is where the "french tuck or half tuck comes in handy as it shows your waist so you dont look like you bigger than you are and like you are wearing a sack! This is also good to hide/camoflage a rounder/wider belly. A belt also helps define the waist at the same time as "hiding" ones actual waist line. I know, it sounds weird😁 With jeans and trousers I find that the pocket size or style is important. Too big/low/wide back pockets make my bottom look bigger ( bad idea to have pockets that fall below the bottom of you bottom😉) This could of course balance out my top, but rarely looks flattering. I find the best pocket is the kind you find on chinos. The seam of the pocket sits higher and somehow "lifts" my bottom. If that isnt an option then make shure pockets sit high. I find that bootleg jeans give the perfect "bell bottom/flared jeans" look, but straight leg (not too wide though) dark blue or black jeans are always a winner. A tip that often works for me when going for a high rise is, if you cant find them in the petites department, you can try a mid rize option from the "normal" sizes department. They usually end up being a comfortable high rise - for me at least. With sweaters and tops in general, it is rarely slimming to wear anything bulky as one ends up looking heavier and larger. Thinner (but not too unstructured or slim fitting!) knits and blouses/shirts are more slimming. My body proportions are (apart from horizontally😏) "average", I am I guess "well proportioned", so if you have a similar shape and hight to me, maybe these tips can work for you too🙂

Wow! Anna- those are amazing and practical tips we can all benefit from! Thank you so much for giving such detailed tips to your fellow petites here!
@annahart695 жыл бұрын
You are very welcome☺️ I am happy I found you here on youtube. Us petites must stick together😁 I actually thought of one more "tip" and its about jackets and coats! My big upper arms can as I said be a problem as many sleeves fit too tightly. Sometimes the problem isnt the actual sleeve, but the lining! If there is just a little stretch to the material, I have a few times turned the sleeve inside out and opened up the lining around the upper arm area. I know it seems drastic, but noone sees the inside of a sleeve anyway and it gives a little more space for my arms. This as I said only works if the sleeve is only a little too tight and has some stretch too it. It has saved med from having to go up a size wich would make the shoulders to big and the jacket/coat too wide and thereby "drowning" me. Oversize may be in, but one has to be careful with that trend when being "vertically challenged"😉😁 its quite annoying actually as I love the whole "oversize slouchy menswear" look😍 I can somewhat create the look though by wearing brogues or trainers, slimmer lined (slightly) cropped suit trousers/jeans and a french tucked mens style shirt with the cuffs messily rolled up. Throw on either a small size mens waistcoat (suit type) or a (slightly) oversize jacket/blazer, top of with a cross body bag (brings in the fabric on almost any outfit, creating a slimming silhouette!) and "mens slouchy oversize look" (with a petite twist) achieved👍🏼

Please cover tees and tops. Tunics are so popular and I do have some of them but I’m short legged and long torsoed and I don’t think they are flattering because of my shape. I get away with it by wearing really slim jeans but I’d like your thoughts on that. I feel I need a really good top clean out, ha.

I have long torso as well so we need to be careful with the length of the tops! I’ll have a video on the best tops.

I just love all your video's. I am one of those people who have a very short torso. I look best in a mid rise jean, they usually sit right above my navel. I also prefer a straight leg or boot cut. Skinny jeans with the tight ankle make my legs look short.

Hello, I'm 5'1 and I love straight legged jeans but I have a hourglass shape, full hips and thighs with a small waistline. The problem is that the pants waist sticks out and the thigh and hip area fits a little snug. Do you have any advice or suggestions for me as for a properly fitted style of jeans or pant? Thanks in advance.
@PetiteDressing5 жыл бұрын
Hi Alicia, small waist is the blessing and a common challenge when it comes to pants! You can consider jeans with elastic waist band, as they will not appear as loose (since you will have to size up to fit your hips). Or pick the size that work for your hips and take to the tailor to take in the waist. Here is my blog post for more hourglass shape style tips: blog.petitedressing.com/hourglass-figure/

I have altered almost every pair of pants that I own because of my smaller waist. I just use my sewing machine to put in two darts in the waistband above the pockets or where the pockets would be. My darts are only about an inch and a half to two inches long. Does wonders for holding my pants up without a belt or bulk.

Hi. What about rectangle shape petite girls. What shape of jeans will suit us best?
@sf50192 жыл бұрын
Hi Chi, this is very interesting but how do I calculate my rise? I have a rectangle shape and I usually buy mid rise.
@PetiteDressing2 жыл бұрын
Hello! The front rise is measured from the crotch seam straight up to the top of the waistband. Similarly, the back rise is measured from the crotch seam straight up the back of the dungarees to the top of the waistband. In general, the back rise is 3" or greater than the front rise measurement. I hope this will help! ❤️

Express makes short jeans and petite jeans, they fit better for those with smaller waist. I get 7 Jeans and JBrand in ankle length (26 inches) and they normally work for me.
