Bow and arrow choke = okuri eri jime Okuri eri jime refers to any choke where you pull the lapel across the throat like bow and arrow, clock choke, hell choke. Sankaku jime you mentioned literally translates to triangle choke. Hadaka jime is any choke where you don't use clothing but instead your arms including RNC, japanese necktie, peruvian necktie, anaconda, d'arce, guillotine, arm in guillotine, bulldog

Don’t they use hadaka jime to describe the choke when you’re in mount and you have your arm behind your opponents head and you feed your fingers into your opposite sleeve and go across their neck?

I believe that shoulder locks are a bit of a "don't ask, don't tell" situation. Referees don't want to make some of the most popular submissions like Ude Garami illegal, so they let shoulder pressure slide as long as the arm is bent in some way. I don't think I have ever seen a shoulder lock penalty call.
@JudoHighlights2015 Жыл бұрын
yeah I've never seen a shoulder lock penalty either. Good points.
@DMurdock Жыл бұрын
Shoulder locks were never illegal. This confusion is due to a slight mistranslation of the rules.

@mattcollins9499 Жыл бұрын
It is. Kesa gatame neck cranks another grey area. Bending the neck forward while allowing the upper back to round isn't as dangerous as say a can opener where you pin the upper back and put the chin to chest. Similar to a full nelson mechanic I guess but from the top.
@judojudo3808 Жыл бұрын
Interesting compilation but you could use the judo names of technique please. The mostly of choke is okuri eri jime here at 6:59 probably kata sankaku grip with choking effect or hadaka jime. Technique at 11:19 is not reverse kesa gatame but ura gatame. At 9:22 it is funakubo gatame turnover by Funakubo herself.. The best actions are 5:36 and 7:36 very nice switches beetwen techniques but I miss this actions for example from 2022 year: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mKKlgZalqbODhsU and: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3WUl5qbZdqIfck.

BJJ black belt here... A few of the fighters did the positions perfectly, like a BJJ fighter would do. But honestly some of these judo fighters look like they never did any ground at all, it's like they think that if they just turtle and flex it'll be ok. I know that judo guys laugh at our takedowns like we laugh at their ground, but come on... at this level they need to know the basics of where to turn and how to defend. Also, @5:30 it was a back triangle, not bow and arrow. And @3:30 it was a kimura, not an armbar =)
@zartic4life7 ай бұрын
They turtle because they only need to wait 5 seconds its the safest stalling move due to the ruleset it's not because they're amateurs on the ground. I'm sure they know how to spread eagle.
@steveevans42996 ай бұрын
A 'Kimura' is an Gyaku-Ude-Garami (Upside Down Arm-Entanglement - one of the figure-four locks) - a Judo technique of old favoured by the Japanese Judoka Kimura who taught it to the Gracie's the hard way! 🙂- it is easy to apply pain to the shoulder but it is in the family of Judo arm-locks (Ude-Kansetsu-Waza). It is contest legal in Judo as long as it doesn't reach as far as the shoulder blades. As you know, if you force the hand towards the head you will destroy the shoulder. If you isolate the wrist and lift the elbow you will apply the pressure lower down, towards the elbow. Easier to do in the Hon-Ude-Garami (Americana) version.

@alejandrob.r.22565 ай бұрын
Minor details like you don't get points in judo for sweeping or taking back on the ground. You only win on judo by submission: strangle or choke and elbow lock or by pinning: 10 seconds is wazari (2 wazari= 1 ippon) and 20 seconds is an ippon. Ippon = win. If you don't progress and maintain the same position in judo you are told to get up.
