Best Lakefront Site We've Had! // Mile Creek CG In EKKO

Give us a little water and we're happy. But give us a lakefront site right on the water where we can take our paddle board out to explore private islands and see epic sunsets. Well that is just the stuff for us. This week that's what we'll show you as we take you along with us on a fun camping trip in our Ekko exploring Lake Keowee at Mile Creek Campground.

Cajun Catfish Po Boy Sandwiches:
Before you make this: OK... so in the video you saw that Lynn did not like this... at all. To be truthful Owen gives it a 7/10 and Lynn a 5/10. Not a recipe we'll repeat anytime soon. But if we do we'll substitute Tuna instead of Catfish. And if we do have to use catfish we'll make sure we get smaller pieces. We could not put enough sauce or rub on this to rid the "fishy" smell and taste.
Ingredients:
1 teaspoon kosher salt
• 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
• 1 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
• 1 teaspoon garlic powder
• 1 teaspoon onion powder
• 1 teaspoon paprika
• 1 teaspoon dried parsley
• ½ teaspoon dried oregano
• ½ teaspoon dried thyme
• 4 (4 ounce) catfish fillets, skinned
• ¾ cup unsalted butter
• Hoagie rolls
Steps:
Mix together salt, black and cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, parsley, oregano, and thyme in a shallow bowl until thoroughly combined. Press catfish fillets into the spice mixture to thoroughly coat.
Melt butter in a bowl and set aside.
Arrange a portable heat source outdoors, such as a butane burner or side burner of a gas grill. Light the burner, and place a large cast-iron skillet onto the burner over high heat. Pour about 1/4 cup melted butter into the skillet.
When butter in the skillet is smoking hot, lay catfish fillets into the skillet. Cook until the spices are burned onto the fillets and the catfish is opaque and flaky inside, about 3 minutes per side. Don't breathe the smoke.
To serve, pour remaining 1/2 cup butter over the catfish.

I'm always tickled to hear one of Owen's songs. Didn't know that he played professionally. Now I would love to see/hear him play at their campsite some time. I imagine your views would be doubled!!! My husband plays keyboard, guitar and bass, mostly in church but he also has been known to write a few tunes. Down here in southeastern GA, we have some hum ding musicians. This has been a GEM of a campground!!! Thanks for the review. We booked again for next year we had such a great time this fall. Not perfect, not a great deal of hiking at this park, but close enough to hike at the state parks. The water was just fabulous. Paddle boarding was just great, so many little beaches and inlets to stop off at. Really impressed at this county park, great prices, too.

What a beautiful camp spot! Have to agree with Lynn - big honkin’ pieces of catfish aren’t tasty at all to me. I do like smaller fillets or nuggets fried & served with tartar sauce, or Cajun seasoning is good too. The paddle board looked like lots of fun. Hope you all are well; safe travels!

We just bought an Ekko and found your channel. Really enjoy watching your adventures and detailed information. Keep up the great work and keep having fun! Turn your SUP paddle around and you will be more efficient on the water, most blades have a 10 degree offset which helps the blade enter the water on a positive angle. Wife and I owned and operated a SUP shop in Vero Beach, FL. Great job getting on the board from the water on your knees!

We have a double paddle board and seats and we use it together. We also have the power pump. We used it on the Green Lakes in Wyoming and in Idaho in 2021, missed using it this year.

Wow great camp site very relaxing. Thinking about stopping here on our November trip to cades cove. Sorry but Lynn was wrong on the cat fish sandwiches, looked good and spicy but in fairness Angie is on team Lynn. Check out the Itrek 9 by Hobie. It’s a pedal kayak which leaves your hands free for photography/ videography and is 40” wide so it’s stable. Not cheap though. You can use it as as SUP also. Breaks down to a luggage size suitcase under 50 pounds total. The kayak is 20 pounds, 38 pounds with seat, pedals and rudder. Pakayak is interesting to for hard shell paddling.

I’m from upstate New York and I love Florida like you guys we camped there in February the weather was beautiful the whole time I went to ask you the state parks are beautiful but my guy loves flying his drone but we were told that you can not fly and video in the state parks what’s your opinion about that have you been told no videoing???

Very nice video! The campsite looks great with awesome views of the lake. What site were you at? Any recommendations for waterfront sites? We have two inflatable SUPS and love them!! We take them both to every water campsite we visit, stored right in the back of our truck cabin. We love your videos and appreciate all the info.

We were in site #20. We really liked it because we could walk our paddle board down to the water. If you look at the campground map most of the Sites on the left seem closer to the water and might provide a way to the water with great views. Sites 7-12 are close to the water but your neighbors would be really close. We were there mid September and the water was extremely warm. Sounds like you enjoy being on the water too and this is a great place to do that.

Hey Owen! I want to bring up a couple of things. One, you say in this video that you brought along some pickled onions (they look great BTW, is the recipe posted?) that "WE" made at home. Yet, in the video, I only see Lynn working on those onions! I think I caught ya! Second, I've been travelling along via your videos for a long time now and just like every now and then life has to come to a full stop and you just have to do laundry, I'm sure there are times when you just have to wash your RV and, yet, I don't think I've ever seen a video of you washing any of your RVs. Did I miss it somehow? If not, do you think you'll ever do one? Thanks and I love watching your videos!

Kind of caught me. 😂It was a joint effort finding the recipes and assembling components.But for this one at home Lynn did the prep and I filmed. Lots of stirring went on off camera. But there are many times I try to give her credit and she says it's my thing, which I disagree with. She usually does a lot, if not most, of the prep work. We've shown washing the Travato and Revel but usually don't show that due to the water and soap spray that is not great for the cameras. Most of the time we try to make it through until we get home and we wash it there with an electric power washer. We'll add it as a dirty little video topic for later. 😂 Thanks Jess for watching for so long and being with us on the journey.
