1) Why are we comparing hyperpigmentation to cavities? The former is harmless and the latter is a literal infection. 2) Darker lips are 100% normal for brown people and comes down to how much melanin is produced by our pigment cells aka melanocytes. No amount of superficial exfoliation will change the amount of pigment being produced, overexfoliating will only damage your skin barrier and cause more hyperpigmentation. 3) If you're so concerned about a sudden/spontaneous darkening of your lips, see a doctor as it could indicate an underlying condition.

The retinol one seems to be working great for me! Combined it with derma lip balm and although that lip balm isn’t that hydrating ( I bought it for the spf) - I believe it’s doing its job in the pigmentation area. Would’ve been more effective if I gave up on my lip picking habit lol. Thanks for your advice❤
