What I do for continued propagation now is when my spawn is going to substrate I save some in a few ketchup cups, give them about a week to get real fuzzy then with a new needle inject a syringe of sterile water into it right thru the lid, tape over it and shake it up then draw it back into the syringe and inject it right into new grain I’m starting. They can stay in the fridge too for whenever I want to use them. Super simple and always works.

Thanks man, I really appreciate it. I'm extremely fortunate that my sister works at a hospital and so she has access to the gear I use. You can repurpose the barrel from spore syringes that you order (or just order some the same size). The needle part is an18 gauge (try not to go any smaller that that if you can) and it's 3 1/2 inches long. Also needle sizes get smaller as the number goes up. 22 is way smaller than 18 as an example so make sure the one you get is in the 16-18 gauge range. I hope that helps. Good luck amigo! When you're using so much LC that you get pooling, especially in a medium like WBS, you can also add a tablespoon or two of BRF powder to the jars before you PC them. That will even out the moisture, keep things drier, and still provide a food source to the mycelium. To be honest, the times I played around with adding some BRF (also when I used WBS, so it has been some years), I swear it would colonize even faster. I think having tiny grains of food to much on coating the larger grains, each of those BRF grains now also hosting living mycelium, seems to make it even quicker.

In my experience added in a extra 2 cc or 3cc increase my colonize chance by alot. The growth is so much faster when I add in say 5cc of liquid culture then say 2ml into my grain jars. Make sure the jars stay in a warm area of the house and those jars will be done within 2-3weeks on average. Depending on what size jars you use you could get full growth within a week if done correctly. Cheers and mush love y'all. Happy cultivating!

@RickL55510 ай бұрын
No shaking. It's an extra step that I started skipping a couple of years ago. It can increase the chances of your jar stalling out and sometimes the mycelium gets weakened a little and grows slower. Maybe if I were still using spore syringes I might but a good, healthy LC grows so fast the shake step was not needed. Thanks for dropping by!😃

You're probably fine but keep an eye out for contamination. Give it a few days. If there's no visible mold and if it's not all slimly you should be good to go. Just don't re-shake them another time. Anything higher than 82 degrees can make it a better environment to contamination to grow . This is a great video, but I think the name is a bit misleading. It's more about how to inoculate with LC and not how to prepare LC. Perhaps make a video explaining your recipe and how you inoculate your LC. Do you work with agar?
@RickL555 Жыл бұрын
That's a good idea. I'm wrapping up an editing project this weekend and then next week I'll get started on an LC vid. Yes, I'm working with agar. Took me a while but I got in the habit of testing all my LC on agar before putting it to grains.
@londonfleet1099 Жыл бұрын
I have a jar of LC as well, and was wondering what can I do instead of using agar to test the sterility. How are you knowing you won’t contaminate your grain? I don’t have agar and I would rather do it this way without contamination.
@RickL555 Жыл бұрын
Agar is the only way to really know for sure. Also learning how to spot the difference between healthy mycelium and mycelium that is bacterially stressed, goes a really long way. If it's marshmallow creamy texture, jars are sweatier than normal, seeds against the jar glass don't fully cover and little patches of spikes.. These are the sings that your spawn has something funky in there. Might still grow mushies but they will be little mutants and you won't get as many flushes. Good luck amigo!

Just dawned on me that pure white is also a sign of contamination. Like Trich before it turns green is noticeably several shades brighter than mycelium. You know it took me a sec to realize it but I got your question mixed up with someone else. Ha, you must have thought I was having a stroke. Slime mold doesn't turn blue that I'm aware of. Yeah, I didn't believe this would work at first either but when you shake the jars a few times that fully loaded rig gets spread around and you can hardly tell it was ever there. I was having problems with the WBS I was getting and thought I could fix the issue by simmering it for much longer and than I normally would and that's when the slime molds issue started. Way too much moisture. Now that I've switched to using popcorn kernels exclusively I'm also back to loading my jars with as much LC as one syringe will hold and so far it's working out just fine.

@@RickL555 according to your logic, you put 30cc liquid culture in 1000cc bird food, is it correct?
@RickL555 Жыл бұрын
@@mahmutvural8885 No, I guess I meant that I just would risk putting any more LC than that (3cc 's) into an amount that small. 100ml of bird seed isn't much at all. What I've been doing these days is using 6cc's of LC into a jar of bird seed filled to around the 600-700 ml line. I could probably use more than that but then I risk having slime mold issues so I play it safe and just use 6cc. It's all relative to how long you soak and simmer for and what type of bird seed you're using so plan on a bit of trial and error to adjust for these variables.
@badmandansanchez1823 Жыл бұрын
@@RickL555 thanks for that explanation. Slime mold sucks
@RickL555 Жыл бұрын
Yes, indeed. I was having some issues with the WBS I was getting and thought I could solve the problem by simmering my birdseed for much longer than I normally would. That put a lot of extra moisture in the jar and that's when I dropped the LC to 6 units per jar to avoid the slime molds. Before that I had been using a full syringe of LC with amazing results!! You have to shake it so LC can't pool up in the jar and you're all good. WBS is cheap and it had been very reliable until the day it wasn't anymore. It's not meant for human consumption so it's processed, packaged, stored and shipped much differently than if you got those same raw grains from the hippie food aisle. Anything from rat turds to molds and bacteria can hitch a ride in WBS at any point along the way and some of that stuff can survive the pressure cooker. I found a 50lb bag of popcorn from a restaurant supply store for about $35. I'm back to loading my rig with as much gooey goodness as one syringe will hold. Good luck Amigo!
