For around 500 bucks, plus a tuner and set of strings, a couple picks, the Eastman M 305 would be my pick. It has everything a beginner to seasoned player needs for decades of fun and enjoyment. My old Flatiron A-5 is right up there. The Flatiron list price at the factory at the time was $1250. I got mine because having worked there in the early '90s I got it for $250 with a good case. Tuner and strings cost extra. Hard to beat the Eastman, in my opinion. I got to play a couple at a music store. Very consistent in sound and quality of work. 😃❤️☮️. Bob in Montana

Richwood RMA-110-VS is a much better option than any of these at a similar price point. All solid wood w/a carved top and pressed back. AA spruce top w/small f holes, tiger maple sides, back and neck. Ebony fingerboard and ebony adjustable bridge. The only concession is generic Korean tuners. They'll last 5 years before an upgrade is needed. The tailpiece is an Allen MT-2 knockoff. I've played the Eastman and Ibanez. The Richwood has better bark and set up out of the box. It's punchy, clean, round and direct. Excellent chop, too. Intonation way up the neck is spotty. Double truss rod. For gigging use an ATM C-1000 condensor mic and/or a K and K mandolin specific transducer. A set of Boss TU-2 tuner and Boss Bass 7 band graphic pedals will give the best sound depending on your ensemble instruments. I play in a plugged in Celtic band w/electric bass. EDIT: Though I've never tried a Loar out, personally I listened to this video through a good stereo system with an 8" woofer. Truthfully the Loar sounded a little thin compared to the Eastman which sounded muffled when compared to my Richwood. Admittedly the RW being 7 years old has age and at least several hundred hours of hard playing on it. So, while the Eastman will open up. I don't get the same sense with the Loar. One would do well with either, but I'd put my money on the Eastman. It passes the ear test for me. Cheers, everybody. Hope my input is helpful.

All look same

But they're not. The Ibanez and Eastman are all solid wood and the other 2 are all laminate. Hence the need of a pickup.
