Might sound silly but I really like your point about not being afraid to re-focus. Sounds super obvious that it's better to lose a second of footage vs a whole take, but I'd always have it in my head that I'd have to get the entire take absolutely perfect, and if I went out of focus for a second I'd have to do another take.

I'm with you mate, just refocus mid shot, do it all the time.

Great content, thanks. Another thing I found useful was to open up the aperture, reducing the depth of field, set the focus with focus peaking which now has a narrower range for better accuracy. Then reset the aperture to increase depth of field to the desired setting.

I did just a handful of profects but I realized that a bad/hunting autofocus is always much worser than an average manual focus. Many thanks for the great tips.

You fell out of my KZbin feed for a while (KZbin thinks I can only be interested in about 3 things at a time). Good to be back (and good to see your 6K Pro working again). I find the focus peaking on my 6K Pro's monitor good enough. And I've been shooting hand-held and using a Sigma 17-50 F2.8 which has very short throw. I can do decent pulls with muscle memory, though. I am definitely considering a follow focus but not totally sure how well it would work handheld; I find by cradling the lens I can focus without introducing wobble.

Damn Rob, click the bell icon and never lose me to the algorithm again! Follow focus is best for lenses with slightly longer focus throws, but I love to use it with my sigma 18-35.

Thank you for this great video, you are really pedagogical, professional and the tips are clean and simple. I have just one question: I've bought recently cine lens, and the focus is really slow to operate. I mean the ring is hard to turn, so I can do only small focus distances. How can I focus faster on a cine lens ? Follow focus is good, but impossible for a solo operator to frame while focusing
@thesavagefilmmaker2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind words! A follow focus is really the best option. Now you can purchase a Electronic follow focus, such as the Tilta Nucleus Nano/N which can potentially pull focus quicker than you can manually, this may be your best option for quicker focus pulls. But this is also a feature of a lot of cine lenses which can be both good and bad.

cool tips. watched a few minutes from the older movie , too many clip changes was making me dizzy , constructive critic , watch more old movies and study the story lines and scene changes , felt like a bunch of clips passing too fast .
@thesavagefilmmaker2 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry mate but for you to comment on story - you have to have watched more than the opening credits of my film (so you understand what the story is). Jump cuts and fast paced montages are part of many old movies as well as new ones, so my familiarity with this construct is not the issue, your attention span is.
