This is definitely one of Panasonics flagship cameras. I’m not shooting in 1080, I’m recording the screen overlay in 1080 while filming in 4K dummy.

They got criticised for putting it in an inconvenient place for it to be practical and useful.

@@thesavagefilmmaker to enter settings I think it’s a fine location, I remember a lot of people saying it should be a flip screen, not that it shouldn’t be on the side, because they wanted a built in monitor…I think that because they created a nice big screen that could in a pinch be used to view video, people wanted it to be more than it was. If they gave the same screen as the Komodo, no one would have mentioned it.

Yes I agree there is better highlight retention in the pro res. Filming in Pro Res or B-raw is how I often choose to film with it.

z8 looks like an absolute KILLER camera - however it's also double the price. But I haven't had the opportunity to film with it, so I can't speak to it as a point of comparison.

@@thesavagefilmmaker They didn't: you still need to pay for 2 monitors while only using one of them. So they fixed a problem for themselves, not for the paying customers.

Agree Blackmagic 6K is on another level.

Buddy, I own the blackmagic video assist, both of them. I think it's fair to compare. Ultimately the touch screen camera controls are what make this necessary for Pyxis owners. The USB-C connection is also super smart. I 100% agree it should have come bundled with the Pyxis, but now it can for only $300 more. The Video assist is definitely a better monitor, but not better for Pyxis users.

The main issues people had with the Pyxis was the screen being on the side (I don't think anyone really cared about the controls) it was mainly the placement of the screen and being able to pull focus when using the camera on a tripod/gimbals/running and gunning. Remember when BM announce of the new cameras? they dropped the prices of the video assists. Don't get me wrong I think the new screen looks cool, the design etc... not a great lover of it being only usb-c, this limits it use case and that my point! The Video assist are design for much, much more and have way more functionality and use cases! It's like comparing a chalk and cheese! - lol Also £300 buck just for the screen! ouch! Do we even know how much battery power the monitor consumes? does the 4 inch screen and this one at the same time while shooting? BM cameras are notorious for ripping through batteries at the best of times. I dont know bro, I think the comparison should be against other field monitors like Portkeys/Viltrox etc... The portkey monitors even have camera control for BM cameras as well via bluetooth, hell I can even control my P4K camera setting with the Titla Nano 2 wheel as a side function. - lol I just think BM should have included them from the beginning and taken out the 4 inch screen from the Pyxis, if adjusting the controls was such an issue. Thank you!! glad some one said it! I own the 6K FF, got it during the sale, dont get me wrong this its my favorite camera now (having owned OG, P4K, S4K pro, Mirco OG), but yea the Pyxis is pretty annoying your not really getting much more, that not already out there.

@@adriancluskey3640 They gave people what they asked for. The BMD users that wanted to keep the pocket camera the same shape & for the ones that wanted a BOX. Of course it would be the same camera. Most of us will have to wait until Gen 2 of the Pyxis or a Pro version to get updated specs & design...etc

Hey I agree, thats what I highlighted at the end of the video. Pyxis should have been an upgrade to the 6K FF, not the same camera in different housing.

It's not a waste of money you save money getting the exact same camera in a different body. Thats not a waste, simply a different approach. And they could have avoided people shitting on the side monitor if they'd announced this monitor when they announced the Pyxis. They did also mention this monitor was not intended originally for the Pyxis, only the Ursa Cine, so there's definitely been some rethinking going on at some point.

This would be awesome for it! We usually setup it up in tight spots where we can't/don't want to leave a monitor. Something like this could be useful for a quick check and adjustment.

@@thwvisuals Exactly right! There also another fascinating use. When used with a USB-C splitter and external SSD, this could be an extreamly intuitive, compact modular cinema camera.
