@sameer-kamat5 жыл бұрын
@@Supritdc The first thing to keep in mind is that an MiM is not the same as MBA. Modify your expectations from the program accordingly. Apart from that, get in touch with international students and alumni of the program to find out whether they found the degree helpful. If all signals are positive, go ahead with the application process. We've covered more on MiM programs here: www.mbacrystalball.com/masters-degree/masters-in-management-mim

Sir, I would like to know more specifics about a profile the international (and Indian) B-Schools look for. Is there any sort of an unofficial (and/or somewhat vague or trending) standardisation in criteria? The number of extra-curriculars, achievements, responsibilities that have to be on your profile; academics, etc? Now, I know that more the better, but would still like more specific understanding of it. What KIND of an achievement/participation would be prioritised over the other, for example, would working for an NGO be a better addition to the profile than, say, handling a good amount of responsibility under your work for a private entity? To what extent could any sort of extra-curricular mitigate some other deficiency, say, not-so-strong academics (or, that competition is so high that it wouldn't mitigate anything at all?) I have read your book "Beyond the MBA Hype", so I would obviously have to consider if an MBA degree would be anything beneficial to begin with, given my profile. For the record, I'm a CA student about to finish college and begin articleship (and as per what I read on your website, only certain international b-schools would ever consider articleship term as a real "work-ex", so I know about one requirement, at least). Also, MBA under what specialisation could be synergic to CA (would MBA in marketing and not finance make any financial specialization under CA redundant, etc?) Moreover, if someone wanted to start MBA after completing CA, to what extent could such professional qualification add weight to Profile, and would those be, again, prioritised over non-academic ECAs and achievements?
@sameer-kamat5 жыл бұрын
@@namankhare7436 Hi Naman, bschools share the overall stats on their class profile page, but they don't provide specifics of a particular nationality. Apart from GMAT / GRE scores, which tend to be higher for Indian and Chinese students, the rest of the profile tend to be similar in terms of calibre. I don't agree with your 'more is better' view. As with any other aspect, I'd put quality over quantity here as well. Read this to know the views of an Ivy league MBA admissions officer: www.mbacrystalball.com/blog/2016/08/26/extracurricular-activities-in-mba-application/ Each component has an independent value. So it's tough to 'replace' acads with (say) more extra curriculars. We've helped several chartered accountants get into the top bschools. However, read about their stories on our blog to find out more about their profiles and strategies. Here's one who got a full scholarship from ISB: www.mbacrystalball.com/blog/2016/12/02/chartered-accountant-isb-with-scholarship/ Your specialisation should be driven by your goals and interest. It's too early for you to think about applying and worrying about specialisations. Complete your articleship and work for a few years more. Does that answer all your queries?
@namankhare74365 жыл бұрын
@@sameer-kamat Yes Sir, it answers most of the queries that I have for now, considering that most of the decisions only have to be taken after I start (or even finish) articleship. Also, I'm only glad to know that "more is better" isn't the metric but it is quality over quantity in specific parts of applications. I have also read the article that you linked to - about the CA who got into ISB. I just had one more simple question - what are the basic things I could focus on during articleship (assuming I get one in a very reputed firm) that could also, simultaneously help me develop a profile for MBA application (so if I ever do plan to apply for MBA colleges after CA, I have something built up there). Taking as many responsibilities as possible? Specialising as much as I could? Getting as many praises on performance, especially formally ("article of the year" or something like that)? Anything other that those?

In your application, you'll have to explain the reasons why you struggled in your engineering. And why that will not be the case during the MBA. Plus your GMAT score, experience will play a role too. Hi Sameer, impressive guidance! I am considering pursuing an MBA with post career plans in clean energy sector, and I would appreciate your advice on which country to choose between Denmark and Australia for an MBA. Denmark is a global leader in the sector and seems to align well with my career aspirations. However, Australia's energy sector is more diversified, offering potentially more opportunities. I would appreciate any insights you may have to help me make an informed decision. 🙂
@MBACrystalBall Жыл бұрын
As a general rule of thumb, it's best to choose the country and bschool where your target companies recruit. Since your goals in a niche sector, here's something else to keep in mind. The two countries you've shortlisted are typical MBA markets which means the MBA you get there may get doors to open in those countries, but those bschools may not get the same respect and credibility if you choose to spread your wings and explore other markets. Have you considered that possibility?
@user-rs2yv9jz1e Жыл бұрын
@@MBACrystalBall Thanks for replying so promptly and that too on a weekend!, Currently, I am considering only these two markets, and I have secured admission offers from top programs in both the places (CBS and AGSM). For context, I have been inclined towards Australia for some time now for various reasons. However, after receiving an offer from CBS and learning more about the renewable energy sector there, I am now leaning more towards Denmark. I'm not sure how safe of a bet that is compared to Australia, and I would greatly appreciate your honest opinion (दो टूक ) on the matter. Which program out of two would you recommend more (CBS and AGSM)?
@MBACrystalBall Жыл бұрын
We're more familiar with AGSM than with CBS. And we know several clients have done well after their MBA there. Plus it's an English speaking country. So in our biased opinion we'd pick Aus. But then, you know the niche market better than us (or other consultants, acquaintances). Which is why you should rely on your gut feel to take the call and not be influenced by what others suggest.
@user-rs2yv9jz1e Жыл бұрын
@@MBACrystalBall I cannot agree more with your opinion that I should go with my gut feeling to take the call. I have done extensive research, talked with so many people, especially alumni, got a lot of inputs; but now I have come to a point where more the inputs I am trying to take, more difficult it is getting for me to converge. Perhaps, now it's time for me to trust my intuition. I sincerely appreciate your guidance, will keep you posted!

My MBA criteria is more rigid then his. If you want to get best value out of MBA then you truely have to study in the best MBA not just top 100 in the world. I would say Best 10/15 in the world. Because value kind of drops after top 20. Best in the best "creame de creame" offers bery unique perspective in life and work that even universities ranked 25 in the world do not. E.g. in that case in UK I would say invest time and money only if you are able to study in Oxford, Cambridge or London Business School. These 3 are really the best 15 in the world.
