@petebutler51393 жыл бұрын
We live and learn. I have purchased things from Harbor freight thinking I got a good deal but after a year the motors burn out or sockets snap or clamps don’t hold. Harbor freight is a great secondary resource if you need a tool for one project and never intend to use again. If you want repeat performance from a tool, always spend enough to get the quality and durability you want. I have tools in my box that I bought 30 years ago and still perform like new and I even have tools my grandfather used back in the 50s that still perform perfectly!

Thank you very much, yes it is a tedious process, but it its a way different result then a normal laser engraving. I also thought about laserengraving the pre pattern instead of printing and rubbing it on, but not everyone has a laser engraver and this is the best way i found out to transfer a pattern on metal fast and easy. hello wanted to add a little something....with clear packing tape the same rice paper and pencil you can get the same effect...this way there is absolutely no chance of smudging and a layer of the tape protects against small slips and stray marks copy the art the size you want then take the clear tape fold the ends so that you can grab them press them over the penciled art and take an object taking care to go over all the lines pressing the tape into the pencil ...note the pencil will darken when the tape is pressed correctly....simply peel and resurface onto metal and use the etching tool or dremel to cut throught the tape to the metalno smudges no stray marks from tools
@WildStyleWorks Жыл бұрын
the tape works not so well if you use engraving tools like i do. my tools are not rotating, its like a chisle pushed in with force, that makes the tape cringe up and skip away from the surface, also the depth controll is way harder to get right with tape, since some of the lines are so thin, they are not even as deep as the tape is thick.

some advice: use avery labels. Buy the ones with the single 8.5 x 11 sticker on it, peel off the actual sticker and discard. laser print your artwork onto the glossy coated backing paper. It will loosely adhere. then iron onto the clean metal, let cool, then peel the backing off. I personally invert the image in photoshop, print it out, adhere. then i etch in the appropriate acid for just a few seconds....this leaves a permanent guide to engrave into that will not come off.
@WildStyleWorks2 жыл бұрын
sounds very nice too, the sheets you mention are mostly teflon coated or HPDE coated paper, about the same principal as the parchment paper. etching it is a nice idea, but i wanted to keep it as simple as possible, because what to use to etch titanium, for example. and most people dont have acid at home or dont want to deal with them. a thin coat of hairpray will also protect the laser powder very good from rubbing off. i invert the print in the printer settings, just one little hook to klick onto, thats it 🙂
