Really great video. I'm just starting to consider engraving (as a metal worker, i'd love to propose this kind of work/finitions), but i had a lot of questions about it. You answered almost all of them. Big thanks for your work.

For sandpaper I prefer the 600 grit polishing paper that has the felt back. It's not as aggressive as 600 grit aluminum oxide grit to remove burrs. And if I want to polish from there I go higher in grit to the thousands. The 600 is the grey colored one. And the ceramic files are really nice to fix any slips that a burnisher can't fix.

If using any sand paper most likely in this application aluminum oxide or Automotive grade if you buy in sheet form on the back carefully later shipping tape on the back then cut your squares out or strips. Another method would be to Too Faced tape or contact glue the Sandpaper to tongue depressor or popsicle sticks is your firm surface to work with when done I always use a poly eraser to clean the surface I never use any fluids on my sand papers your sandpaper will last for a very long time also never press hard on your sandpaper let it do its job

Thank you so much for this video, it's so confusing getting started and your video helped me a lot. One question about the 2 engravers for beginners. You mentioned to onglette Nr 4. Is there a difference between the one for curved and straight lines? Or can you use the same?

They are very different from each other. I have online courses teaching how to make them cut on precious metals like butter. You can find them here if you are interested: huiyitan.com/products/making-onglette-graver-for-engraving-straight-lines

Thank you for this video. I want to learn how to hand engrave to make signet rings for myself and my fiancee as wedding rings. Would these tools and your videos work for learning to make signet rings?
@HuiyiTan4 ай бұрын
You will need more than these to make signet rings, etc. If I were going to make only 2 rings, I would sign up for a signet ring making course and use the tools at others’ studio. Because all the tools required are much more than the price of 2 signet rings. It would be a waste of money to get all the tools just for making 2 rings ever.

@@HuiyiTan Thank you so much for taking your time to reply to us. I should have mentioned I intend to make copies of our rings for each of our sons and daughters. And we want six children. If my business grow in success even more. With the six additional rings, what would you suggest? And what tools are needed?

I was curious if you have ever brazed a coin onto a metal plate before? I am trying to braze some coins onto 1018 low carbon steel and then cut it into shape? I figured since you are a jeweler, you could point me in the correct direction? Thank you for your time.

I am specialised in solid silver, gold and platinum only. I have never brazed anything onto steel myself. Sorry.

Baby oil is just white minerial oil with a fragrent added, which you do not need! Why not try camellia oil instead. Your dropper bottle is the same system I use. I use 1 oz dropper bottles. Also, neddle bottles used by nail salons work perfectly. Columbus Michigan

10$ for pdf which is just a shopping list is craaazy
@HuiyiTan18 күн бұрын
Due to my budget, I have very limited tools which allow me to do everything I shown in the video. The downloadable PDF file shows the tools I have. It also shows a hyper link where you can get them online. 98% of the tools I have cost much more than 10$. You are free to try all the tools in the shop.
@nightingale148818 күн бұрын
@@HuiyiTan those tools are already a halfty price. Why make it harder for your audience? You know you can revolutionize this industry by just simply going against the grain? For example contacting diy chanel's and offering them colab to make pneumatic engraver cheeper then 1000$. Your audience will be interesting in buying courses and do art with you. And if they don't want to diy it - you will have blueprints and can make semi-professional engraver that is not so expensive. I'm just confused as to why 10$ for pdf when you have the whole free niche at your mercy to mess with and make tons of money
@nightingale148818 күн бұрын
And yeah, just a reminder. I didn't mean any disrespect with my comment, it was just not the best idea to sell so little for so much when you can do much more with your reach. I just believe that the audiences respect worth more then any money

A pneumatic engraver for $200 is available here: amzn.to/4enESwH For less than $300, you can get one here: amzn.to/3O2PAxX If you want to spend $350, here: amzn.to/3NYDAh8 I won't suggest any professional jeweller to use a diy pneumatic engraver. If you are a professional jeweller, I would highly recommend using the ones which are over $1K. Totally worthy it.
