Hi guys, you’ll notice that in our videos we try our best to communicate with the locals in their language. We don’t travel with fixers or guides who can order for us in the local language so it’s up to us 😄 Sure it’s hard and often times very embarrassing (especially as it’s out for the world to see on KZbin 😂 )but it’s part of the adventure and is what travel is all about for us! Hopefully we inspire you to do the same when you travel- it’s the best way to have genuine local interaction and you’ll find most people will be very kind and forgiving of any mistakes you make. If we can do it, you can too! If you speak the local language and you hear us make mistakes in our videos please let us know! It’s the best way for us to learn 😄 Hope you enjoy the video guys! Big love, Thomas & Sheena

Chasing a Plate - Thomas & Sheena: The fact that you dont have a camera crew and "fixers" on location is what makes for a genuine, unbiased video. Your research and living like a local gives us the viewer the best "feel" for the location! Keep on just being you, ypur unique style will pay dividends eventually.👍

Mercado food is the best! One of the things I've noticed in my travels is that the locals really appreciate your efforts at speaking their language, no matter how rudimentary your efforts are. It shows a respect, and at least an attempt at flexibility on the part of the traveler. And a big smile takes you the rest of the way. Thomas and Sheena, you two have taken all of that to the level of fine art. Plus, your willingness to try, and to honestly appreciate the local flavors and textures, make you a joy to watch.

😄😄😄😄 what a lovely message to receive. Thank you so much MsKestrela 😍 we totally agree with you- as a guest in someone’s country we feel at the very least you should be able to say a few words in the local language rather than launching in in your mother tongue and expecting people to know what you’re going on about 😝 loads more Mercado food coming up! We love it! Hope you enjoyed this one, thanks for watching and commenting MsKestrela! Cheers, Sheena

I LOVE your attitude about trying to order for yourself in the local language. I think it's the best way to endear yourself to the locals no matter what country you're in. And we all know food tastes better if you "work" for it a little! Another great video as always! 🌮🌮🌮

Hi awais khan, thanks for watching and commenting mate. We’re lucky that we have a community that totally understands what we’re about 😄 Yea spending ridiculous amounts of money on things like high end seafood isn’t really our style- I look at that type of thing and think- more money than sense 😆 And having guides isn’t really our thing either. We love meeting up with locals and just having a meal but we like to make these videos off our own bat- it’s all an integral part of how we travel- we want to show people that whilst it’s not always easy it’s totally do-able to explore these places on your own and hopefully inspire others to travel like we do. Hope you enjoy this Mexico series mate. Thanks for watching and commenting and big love to you in Pakistan! 😍 Cheers, Sheena

Your words seem quite negative towards some of the videos posted by Mark Wiens and the Food Ranger. I would say that they've earned the right to show what they want in their videos and we should all appreciate that they're putting the revenue they make from our views back into making more entertaining videos with higher costs. Don't really understand the need to put another channel down to show this one in a better light.
@kitabGo5 жыл бұрын
@@moelawel it is not about high quality I really doubt them because of my own experience. I use to watch their videos and I went to the restaurants in some of the places I watch in their series and seriously it was below average food on which marks do broken neck. One more important thing is that I'm very good cook too so I know how commercial they are
@fajar78915 жыл бұрын
Some of the well established food blogger channels are indeed team-up with some local guides to show them the local cuisine. Sadly, some of the local guides are also in agreement with several average/tourist trap local restaurants to promote their business. I'm not blaming them for taking sponsorship because it's good for their channel, but dang it can be so obvious sometimes.

Chasing a Plate - Thomas & Sheena ::: Lovely video as always!! You give so much nice detail about taste and what’s in each dish. It really is so enjoyable and informative! I love that you guys are all about the flavour and experience. That speaks to me. So many travel/food vids are only about the visuals (though your images are awesome). PS: I make my own tortillas to try and get that authentic flavour. You just can't get it in store bought ones.

Awesome day in Coyoacán. I made a quick visit of course but to the west is my favorite neighborhood of Mexico City, *_San Ángel._* Such a fantastic part of that area. And the walk from Coyoacán to San Ángel is as beautiful a stroll as you will find in all of CDMX, *_Avenida Fransisco Sosa._* I do a ton of research as you know and often have a specific dish in mind but whenever there are so many choices (as with the tostadas) I always go with the chef recommendation (plus my researched choice if the dish is smallish). I'm adventurous and will try anything and this practice results in many excellent surprises. - "Jaki jest Twój ulubiony?" for pierogi in Warsaw. "Was ist lhr favorit?" for wurst in Germany. "Quel est votre préféré?" for crêpes in Paris. *_"¿Cuál es tu favorito?" for tacos in Mexico City._* - In dozens of countries and many impossible languages every single person (100%) has understood my intent. And, they love to check if I liked their recommendations. It's a great way to make friends if only for a moment. I do this in the U.S. and English speaking countries as well. You may want to give this a try if your stomach can handle it. 😀 *_churros_* - Absolutely shocked Thomas didn't taste the churro before dunking it in the chocolate! I love that ritual and it's such a boss move!
@tosht25155 жыл бұрын
To clarify, I really appreciate when Thomas makes it a point to try a food before saucing it up. You guys understand.

Hey Tosh. Love your style of travel! That is a method we often use also (not so much when the camera is on as we have filming plans). It’s always a great way to have something different to what you would normally pick and connect with someone. Neat to hear that it’s a lovely area to walk. Hopefully we can do that next time we’re in the area. Haha the first thing I did when the camera was off was have the undipped test. I think I was worried about it being a bit boring so I didn’t do it on camera like I normally do. Thanks so much for watching this one. Cheers, Thomas 😀

It's a fun way to eat, isn't it? At Marisquería El K-Guamo (the sidewalk stand, not their resto) I ordered this way. The ladies spoke no English but they understood what I was doing. Four seafood plates, one after the other. All delicious. In Brussels there's a famous cheese shop that happens to make the best sandwiches in Belgium (many say). The owner makes them all himself to order. He said "Bonjour." I responded "Bonjour." My French accent is apparently awful because he quickly switched to English. 😐 I asked him to please make me anything he wanted. He smiled and immediately said "do you eat meat?" then "do you have allergies?" How cool is that? Sandwich was so good I went back the next day. 👍
@ChasingaPlate5 жыл бұрын
What was in the sandwich Tosh?! 😍
@tosht25155 жыл бұрын
First - goat cheese, crushed pistachios, chorizo, tomato, baguette. Second - four cheeses (Camembert, Brie, Comté are the three I remember), apple, honey, baguette. Both delicious. 👍

Hi Diamond! How exciting! You guys are going to have such a wonderful time 😍 We've never stayed in Coyoacan, we usually stay in the Condesa/Roma/Escandon area and take an Uber to Coyocacan which costs about $5 😀 We can recommend a gorgeous boutique bed and breakfast called La Palomilla in Roma. We stayed there on our first visit to Mexico and absolutely adored it 🙌 Thanks for watching and we hope you enjoy the rest of the series. Hi. Thanks so much for watching. Glad you enjoyed this one. We had a ball filming it. Love that area of Mexico City. We’re not comparing ourselves but rather making it clear why we’re different. It’s a really hard game to get ahead in and sometimes you have to quickly spell out to people what your channel is about. For us it’s all about the best food. No comparisons but rather stating why we’re a bit different. We love what some other people are doing and would support them in anything they do. Hope that makes sense. Cheers, Thomas 😀
