Hi Alex. It is August 2024 and as a counterpoint to my beloved...Nikon D700 (who my other beloved isn't jealous of in the slightest, ha,ha,ha), I recently got the GX85 (an import from the states that makes it sound fancy like imported vinyl). Two different systems, but each are wonderful for their own reasons. I had read about it previously on the channel of the late, David Thorpe. My expectations, that were already high, were easily exceeded. I am happy to be shooting with it. Enjoy the rest of your week.

I went for the Gx9, solely for stills, but it's really getting me into taking video as well, because even with next to no knowledge about videography and colour grading, I can get very decent looking footage out of it. I love it, especially because of its versatility. With the 12-32 it easily fits into my bag or jacket pocket and with the extra grip and the 100-300 it's great for wildlife.

Hi Alex! I came across your video and it was very helpful! I am looking into buying a new camera system for hiking and trekking videos. I have a Nikon D3100 and its so heavy with the lenses that I never bring it and just film hikes on my Galaxy s10. I am looking for something like the GX85/GX80 and I think this is a good fit for me! I don't really vlog, I would much rather get amazing footage of the views and get some footage of me hiking on the trail. Is the autofocus only really an issue when someone is vlogging? I want to take amazing footage of my Tour du Mont Blanc trek but without breaking the bank or worrying about a 10 day trek with expensive and heavy camera equipment! I also LOVE the fact the camera can be charged on the go with a powerbank. Could you recommend to me if this is the right camera for my needs? Also if you could let me know which filters to get for it? my hiking footage usually looks too sunny in my videos and I would like to make it more cinematic if possible. Thanks!
@ALEX-pg1hb3 жыл бұрын
Oh also! could you recommend to me 1 or 2 lenses for hiking purposes? for nice landscape shots and maybe closer details (flowers, etc). I wonder if the kit lens 12-32mm is nice? You also mention the audio is pretty bad, could you tell me what external mic you use? Sorry for all the questions xD your video was the most helpful I have seen and the stabilization on this camera with 4k video really caught my eye because I could hold this camera while hiking and not have extra stabilization :)

@@MorYohai No worries at all: i rarely add sharpness in post.. I think the videos are sharp enough... @@rajashekharreddys9416 No problem man. I think for video image stabilisation is very important. Thanks for the video. I am impressed how you work around the deficiencies of the camera - the reflection trick honestly does not work for me (just stared into my Oly 45mm with Hoya HMC filter and could not see anything from any angle :) ). The focusing from the knee is also a clever workaround. Audio recording is not relevant if you can get a used Zoom recorder and sync really good audio afterwards. Still the prices for this camera are really low (around 400Euro), so it is worth the money even if Panasonic should finally eliminate their stupid auto-focus hunting in MFT cameras.

Haha you're very welcome. Happy you found some of my tips useful. Honestly - every camera has limitations, but with how in-expensive this camera is the limitations are very worth it. PS, you won't be able to vlog with that 45mm lens anyway, you need something much winder like a 12mm or a 14mm

Hey Joy, thanks for your comment. In short: yes you can get some awesome portrait shots on this camera, have a look at this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5u2dpVoeLF2eLM But these are not "selfies". Because for selfies you need a wide angle lens with a lack of a flip screen it might be tough to frame yourself. You'd be better off asking someone else to take a photo of you. Also, the kit lens is OK, but you will get even better results if you adopt other lenses / vintage lenses.
