The best part of this video is how he feels about having worn this piece on the subways. Although I love that there can still be a person or two, who isn't crazy rich or particularly knowledgeable about watches, but just casually wears a 6263 on the subway. Something about that is really cool to me.

Unfortunately, the world we live in today, makes it too dangerous to wear a watch like this. My best friend took a severe beating in the parking lot of a bar one night by two robbers trying to take his gold Rolex (apparently they had seen it inside). He managed to hang on to it, but never wore it anywhere again after that. Later, his home was broken into and it was stolen anyway.

You can pick one up for $70,000 from a private seller. A dealer will only give you about $60,000 on trade. Now a black dial big red you will do a little better, but the market has softened this past year. My father has four 6263 Big reds, three black and one silver, one is a complete set. Back in 1991 these were $2000-2500 😂

I could be wrong, but I think that the valuation was a little low. It's slightly different from the "Paul Newman" 6263 Daytona that sold for over $15 million in 2017, but even with that, Reference 6263 Daytonas like this often routinely sell for many hundreds of thousands of dollars. In any case, it's a beautiful watch, made even more valuable by the story behind it....

I really hope he doesn't sell it. Luxury watches are to be passed through generations. I buy luxury watches to mark special occasions in my life so they all have sentimental value for me. I bought a watch this year to mark the birth of my son. It'll be given to him regardless of its value (could be worthless by then or could be worth a fortune) on his 18th birthday. I'd like to hope he keeps its and passes it on to his future children, however, if he chose to sell it for a house deposit or car or something like that in the future it would be his decision.

@hxhdfjifzirstc894 Жыл бұрын
On the other hand, it's extremely impractical for the average person to have $100,000 tied up in a wristwatch. Even more so, because it's more difficult to wear it, compared to a $300 watch. As the guy said, he could have easily been mugged on the subway and lost $100k. So this nice watch is useless, and prevents you from doing $100,000 worth of other things that could be very useful.

@@jwwj30 Here's the thing. When Rolex takes in a watch for service, they keep the damaged parts and destroy them because they don't want counterfeit parts floating around. Don't forget that collectors also value original condition more than restored - doesn't matter if the watch doesn't work, as long as all the parts are original it will explode in price.
