*Note: 1) Current ASUS Boards are problematic with Ryzen 7800X3D, do not recommend them for this CPU. 2) Typo in one of the overlays "B560". That should be "B650".* What motherboards are you looking at? What motherboard features matter most to you and why?

@@Deviantsoundz well HUB showed power efficiency is better than Ampere, but with the CPU bottle necking a $699 6900xt looks far more sensible. If RDNA3 matches MLiD leaks at a sane price, we'll need Zen4 or RPL to actually push the cards

I'm just really excited they moved to LGA, I've been fixing Intels LGA boards for years now as they're a lot easier to fix than PGA boards and often times cheaper. AMD moving to LGA gives me a lot more legroom on what I want to fix and potentially how much more money I can make really excited to see where this takes me in a few months.

As a content creator and a digital artist this was a very informative video. I built a great open looped i7-7700K/GTX 1080Ti build in 2017 and although it still mostly holds its own in gaming it's finally starting to really show its age in regards to render times and high poly Zbrush workflows. For me a lot of IO & storage options are key and thanks to this video I feel like I have a much better understanding of what my options are.

Good job telling people about included audio codecs. It's often overlooked. I have ALC1220 on a B450 board and it sounds great. I think if you go back to some of the older audio codecs there's the potential to lose certain features such as AEC which I swear by. I think AM5 as a whole is a bad value at this time, but again you are letting people know about the potential for 3DVcache parts and the ins and outs of the boards you went over. This is a good resource for people who are not well versed in PC hardware, but also for people like me who can't afford to have these products in hand, so we get a look at them on channels like this. Calling out the lack of value is also a plus, good job. This is a good landing spot for someone who'd like to build a new computer but isn't sure about where to start and their options. ✅

For most people, using software is enough especially when the purpose is for gaming, you can use peace and some VST plugins, or even if you have an RTX card you can use Nvidia broadcast. It's a nice thing, however you shouldn't spend $50 more just because of better audio if that's only the difference you looked at, you can buy a $6 USB-C DAC (Apple) which is going to be better for value if you really cared about it.

Great video as usual. Love every single one of them; very informative. I'll probably stick to ASUS. My current system has a 9 years old ASUS Z-87 motherboard (with a SAPPHIRE TRI-X R9 290X GPU) , and still works like a charm (of course I can't run some games anymore). In the past I also had Asrock and Gigabyte motherboards, but of none of them lasted this long without any issues. I'm going to wait a little bit for the Ryzen 7000 X3D CPU's, and then I will probably go for the ASUS ROG Strix B650E-F (maybe with another Sapphire GPU :-)). I like the Audio on this board and I feel it's a bit more future proof than some other boards. I also don't need the excessive connectivity of a X670E board or the second GPU slot on some boards. And in general, in my personal experience the ASUS boards are more durable and stable. Numbers are important to me, but building quality even more. So yes, I am one of those ASUS fanboys :-)

Whoa Im in a very similar boat, my setup is about 11 years old and has an Asus P8P67-Deluxe with an MSI R9 280X and Ive been very satisfied with the longevity of my Asus motherboard. Ive also had my eye on an ASUS ROG Strix B650E-F (we might be spirit bros lol j/k) however Jason doesnt seem to think that PCIe 5 is a big deal at this point but Im hoping this board will future proof enough to last another 7+ years. Im still undecided about the cpu and was looking at the X3D cpu's as well but the 7900 (non X) seems to be a pretty good value now that they have launched. Even though my last GPU was an MSI I went back with an ASUS gpu this time but no matter the choices I fully expect at least 1 upgrade to the GPU and CPU in it's lifecycle and Im fine with that assuming I dont have to upgrade motherboard and RAM on top. Cheers.

Same here. i5 4440 and Asus B85M-E. Still working perfectly with alot of miles on it; my pc is on for almost 24/7. This is the reason I most surely want to go with ASUS board again for AM5. I'd like to go with the TUF board in combination with 7600(non x) but need to do more research on it.

if prices gets better, i've been eyeing on the Asrock B650M PG Riptide. At least this time they added a Bios Flashback feature. Sure wish though they had the Pro series for MATX just like the Pro4 on the AM4. although, i'm a little bit skeptical about the VRM config. But since undervolting would be the best way to go to save power and heat, i don't think that would be a problem.

Always LOVE your videos. Thanks for the insights! Would be nice to see you think about us creators/productivity users out there. I'm a wedding photographer/videographer and some of the most important things I look for in a mobo is 6 sata ports (Yes, I use them all), at least 10 FAST USB ports (why are they STILL using USB 2.0?) once again, yes I use all 10, 2 USB 3.0 headers and 4 M.2 slots. What mobo would you recommend for us? I'm leaning towards the MSI MPG X670E CARBON WIFI.

@@PCBuilderChannel It really was, so thanks for making your content! My original question however was perhaps poorly phrased. @gamedoutgamer

You won't need the on board audio and will need the USB port for external audio. Your dac/amp uses USB 2.0? Ignore the analog 3.5mm jacks on the IO shield.

@@gamedoutgamer Yeah, I've had my dac/amp for several years now and plug my headphones directly into its 4.4 mm Pentaconn jack. My current PC was built in 2009 so I'm overdue for an upgrade. I asked because I wanted to see if there were other better value propositions given I don't anticipate using any motherboard-based audio solution.

Hi Jason, thanks so much for your in depth reviews and advice. I'm putting together a reasonably priced upgrade to my pc by selecting AMD Ryzen 7600x chip and either ATX 3070 ti GPU or Radeon RX 6700 XT and a bit overwhelmed by choice in the motherboard section. Bearing in mind I don't need a pcie 5 slot, what would be a decent board that is in keeping with my pricepoint but also doesn't hinder the compatibility of my parts? Thanks in advance. Nick

One curiosity I had was for building a SFF system that can handle a 7950x without overspending on the motherboard, that way It'll have max compatibility for whatever I decide to use. I knew it would be possible before the B series boards were released. It will be fairly minimal in terms of pcie/sata devices, maybe just 2 m2 drives at most. I kind of prefer Asus, but I'm also considering Asrock or MSI.

my motherboard buying varies wildly on my budget. my first ever build had a secondhand lga 1151 board, i cant remember which model, the only reason i bought it was because it was 70 dollars, and my modified hp pavilion had just died. after that i bought an X570 board that im still running. bought that because it was 'high end' as in i did no research and only looked at the 5'70' part. this time around im looking for a x670e or b650e because i plan to run this for a long time and upgrade gpu next, and maybe by the time i can afford to upgrade the gpu a new pcie5.0 card will be out

I'm gonna cross my fingers on the ASUS B650-I, has all I need for my ITX build, though some customers reported lots of coil whine on idle from their examples even after getting replacement. One of our retailers had like 5+ of the same board returned within the first few months. But there are so few ITX boards for AM5, I don't want to break my build's all-black aesthetic with the white MSI Edge, and I don't trust AsRock.

Thanks for this! Btw, can you help clear up the confusion about AM5 supported DDR5 RAMs and at what speeds? from what i know, it seems it only supports 1DPC at DDR5 5200 speeds and if you go 2DPCs, the speeds gets reduced significantly. Also, 1DPC at higher than 5200 speeds is not very clear how it works to OC it since the actual support is at 5200 speeds.

Great video, and great style. New subscriber here... One thing that you keep mentioning is that the PCIe5 is not really meaningful so consider the B650 MoBos. That said, when will it become meaningful? I'm wondering if the next video cards after the 40X0 and 7900XT series will need it. Why else would AMD push this standard out if they never planned to use it? I know NVMes will use it first, but when will the video cards use it?

Jason The most interesting thing for me in Am5 are stability and boot times. Compared to 10 years old PCS the Am5 have a Lot longer boot times (EG 2 minutes). When we skip RAM learning it can be 25 - 60 SECs depending on board manufacturer ( gigabyte fastest as I heard) but often occupied by stability issues. Gould You test some boards and compare it or ITS only best on paper mainboards articles ?

I normally buy med/top tier boards like a aorus master or asus crosshair but i think I’m just gonna get a b650 or 650e this time with my 7950x3d. Not gonna use gen 5 I already have two gen 4 2tb drives and as long as it has decent vrms im in. And b650 boards are around the same price as a x570 board from last gen. But one thing I do like on more premium boards normally aorus is a backplate for the motherboard. I have until Friday to pick my 7950x3d at microcenter, i know i should just wait for the 7800x3d but I don’t have much patience. And its nice to have more multicore performance when needed. But wish you could get free ram like on non x3d parts. Im hoping a 7950x3d and gaming oc 4090 should last me 3 years.
