Best future proof PCIE5 GPU & M.2 slot budget option! Thanks for re-verifying the data for me in great detail. I'm ready to purchase this with a R9 7950X + 64GB RAM. The only thing that I didn't catch you mentioning was the primary GPU slot sharing the 3rd M.2 (2nd PCIE 5.0 M.2) slot's PCIE 5.0 lanes so leave that slot open to prevent throttling to 8x. See page xi of the manual. "When M.2_3 is occupied with an SSD device, PCIEX16_1 will run x8 only." The best use case for this then is a single PCIE 5.0 GPU and primary PCIE 5.0 M.2. They could easily cut out a lot of the extra slots at the bottom to save us a lot more money. Could also space components out a bit more. E.g. a NH-D15 wouldn't need to have the second fan raised above the RAM modules. Could also cut the board down to mini-ATX form factor (which I doubt I would use in a smaller case unless the case somehow could manage enough airflow and room for top end R9 CPUs and a top end GPU). eGPUs could get a major boost at anytime if the bus speed improves with the next iteration of say Thunderbolt 5 ports or an ePCIE type port or optical 100Gbps GBIC type slot until copper surpasses it). Now we just need PCIE 5.0 products to be released! Waiting for 4.0 stock to be sold out is painful.

Thanks a lot, man. This is the only deep dive review of this board I found and, as already said by other commenters, this is the sweetest spot for ryzen 7000. X670E is too much of an overkill and too expensive for almost nothing in difference. I have been researching motherboards tirelessly for over a week in order to decide on one for my PC upgrade. I was comfortable sacrificing the PCIe 5 GPU slot, so I settled on a few options at the $290 price point. I was preparing to purchase either the X670 Aorus Elite AX or the MSI MPG B650 Edge. However, after looking more closely at this motherboard, I was blown away at the value. For only $60, I go from one 4.0 slot to TWO PCIe 5 GPU slots, post code and clear cmos, improved VRM, ASUS reliability, and optional second Gen 5 M.2. I just back ordered it from Newegg. Very excited about this motherboard!

What do you reccomend for someone looking for high end parts whos not on a budget? I get how some motherboards arent justified for its pricing as some more affordable options perform pretty much the same but im just trying to see whats the highest "luxury" motherboard if you will for the ryzen 9 7950x and ASUS ROG Strix RTX 4090. I'm just confused as going off the most expensive isnt always necessarily the better option as i looked at some of the specs for the "higher end" ASUS motherboards are are lower than some of its cheaper counter parts
@charlesjag34072 жыл бұрын
@@milhousevanhouton5890 I have spent a lot of time researching these AM5 motherboards, but I am not an expert on this stuff. So, just want to make that clear. A few points: - I wouldn't even think about the VRM (power delivery to the CPU) since you are interested in a luxury board they will all be great. - I don't feel qualified to judge the differences in audio quality. The audio codec is only useful if you don't own/plan to use a USB DAC for audio (that's what I do) - Those with similar specs that I highlight likely differ slightly in their VRM power delivery, Rear I/O options, SATA ports, and/or looks. I'll let you judge between those aspects. - PCIe gen 5 for the GPU is a useless feature now, but if you plan to keep this board for 3+ years you should see slight benefits having this feature for future GPUs. If you are planning to replace the motherboard within that time, I would ignore PCIe gen 5 GPU altogether, and look at some of the great ~$290 options such as: MSI MPG B650 Edge - $310 1 gen4 GPU 1 gen5 M.2 and 2 gen4 M.2 X670 AORUS Elite AX - $290 1 gen4 GPU 1 gen5 M.2 and 3 gen4 M.2 If you want a single PCIe gen 5 GPU slot: ROG STRIX B650E-F GAMING WIFI - $300 1 gen5 GPU 1 gen5 M.2 and 2 gen4 M.2 (the 2nd gen4 erases your only expansion slot) ASUS PRIME X670E-PRO - $350 1 gen5 GPU 1 gen5 M.2 and 2 gen4 M.2 - and the choice to activate 1 gen3 M.2 at the expense of 2 SATA ports ROG STRIX X670E-A GAMING WIFI - $420 1 gen5 GPU 2 gen5 M.2 and 2 gen4 M.2 ROG STRIX X670E-F - $450 1 gen5 GPU 2 gen5 M.2 and 2 gen4 M.2 X670E AORUS MASTER - $500 1 gen5 GPU 2 gen5 M.2 and 2 gen4 M.2 Post Code E-ATX size If you want the option for dual PCIe gen 5 GPU slot: (gen5 x8 being full gen4 bandwidth and x4 being 1/2 gen4 bandwidth) ASUS B650E-E Gaming Wifi - $350 (My Choice) 2 gen5 GPU (x8/x4) 1 gen5 M.2 (w/ a 2nd gen5 if running GPU at x8 speed - which is still full gen4 bandwidth) and 2 gen4 M.2. I'm glad you mentioned the VRM overkill on the X670 board comparison. This Strix board on a B-series is already more power delivery than any current AMD CPU in this socket can draw, even with ridiculous overclocking and excess voltages enabled, short of exotic setups like LN2 and bespoke OC specialists. Overall these components at this price point is pretty amazing given the pricing of most X670 series offers. At this price point, ASUS own TUF X670 and Gigabyte's Aorus Elite AX are also in the market. The audio hardware, highly useable configuration of PCI slots for my peripheral needs, and excellent board quality and connectivity options made the choice among these three easy, without overspending on some ridiculous over engineered X670 monstrosity. For DIY builds, don't underestimate the utility of getting a bios code display in this price class, either!

So for 320 Euro it is a very nice looking premium B650E board that has in some cases even more features than similarly priced x670 or x670E boards. Try to run a Crystaldisk benchmark on SATA SSDs/HDDs and you will be shocked. The maximum speed you can reach is 40% less than it should be: a common Crucial MX500 2TB/4TB can't reach 540MB/s as it does on all other motherboard but it's limited to 399MB/s. And fast HDDs (like Seagate ones 10+TB) have a maximum speed of 160MB/s instead of 250-280MB/s. This motherboard is a scam! (I'm one of the unlucky owners)

Power delivery should be solid enough to last through the rest of AM5 or at least close to the end of AM5. Has Gen 5 so if we end up having parts that use Gen 5 speeds then it is available. RAM speed limit would be the only thing that will be limited compared to future board but on DDR5, those faster speeds do not seem to make much of a difference. Unless you need tons of rear IO for some reason, the B550E-E is more than enough for most people and put you in an excellent position for future AM5 chips. Got one of these for those reasons.

Please quickly glance over the manual before doing a review like this. According to it, populating the 2nd gen5 NVMe slot will make the 1st PCI-E gen5 slot max out at 8x. So, while it technically still is a gen 5 slot, it ends up support "only" gen4 x16 bandwith. Otherwise, great video showcasing the motherboard overall.

Great review but you didn't speak about the big limitation on the second M.2 5.0 slot : "When M.2_3 is occupied with an SSD device, PCIEX16_1 will run x8 only." (hidden in the manuel)
@SirTE02 жыл бұрын
BIG limitation you say? Are you kidding or what? First of all a 8X PCIEX 5.0 has the same bandwidth of a 16X PCIEX 4.0 (a RTX4090 can't even reach this limit) so no differences in the real world (not even a RTX5080, in fall 2024, will require a 16X PCIEX 5.0 so this MB will be the "top of the world" till at least 2026). Second noone needs two NVME 5.0: the best configuration will be a 1TB NVME 5.0 for the OS (and productivity software, like Adobe suite) and a 2TB NVME 4.0 for most demanding games. Then you can use the 4 SATAs to connect old HDDs (I currently have three HDDs, 8TB/10TB/12TB) for pure storage. In conclusion: this Asus Strix B650E-E is THE motherboard for the next 6-8years.

Just bought this used locally for $100. He still had the original stock BIOS from late 2022 on it. Installed the latest without issue. Only issues is the voltages do seem to run higher then my three X670 Aorus Elite AX boards one of them with the same 7600X to compare against. I noticed this with my in BIOS temps hitting 63c with CPU voltage at 1.440v running stock settings. Also the CPU memory controller VDDIO was hanging around 1.38v w/ DRAM at 1.35v which seemed high for the MC not for DRAM. I have a negative CO of -30 and voltage stays no higher than 1.26 now and I manually set the MC to 1.2v. I likely wouldn't have noticed if it wasn't for the 63c in BIOS. Granted I was using only a Wraith Stealth for bench testing.

I stupidly bought 6800 MHz RAM for this motherboard before I realized that that is likely never going to reach that with a 7800x3D. Furthermore, the RAM uses a 1.45V UDIMM Intel O.C. Technology. Is this an issue or will it likely still work, but just clock lower and maybe have to be manually timed?

It became clear that for the SATA connectors this board uses a slow chip ASM1061, there are already people complaining for the bad performance of the SATA drives. I also have 2 SATA SSDS and it is a big disappointment that the board's implementation is with such slow chips. NVMEs are great for system drives but you can get Terabytes of space at a normal price with the SATA drives, so they are without an alternative. What is even more surprising is that this chip ASM1061 is also used in a lot more expensive boards like the Taichi. I hope that they can improve the performance of ASM1061 with drivers, otherwise this will be a big fail.

Hello, i have a question For those "Strips" that we should peel when mounting M2 drives. Is it really necessary to remove the strip ontop of them after mounted a M2 ssd? I have a feeling that it will "stick" to the ssd-drive. What happens if after a time i want to put more M2 drives? Will i still be able to unscrew the plates to add a new ssd? Or due to that sticky-thing it will "pull" the other drives?
@AbulaSyllabus Жыл бұрын
Hello Sebastian It is absolutely mandatory to remove (plastic covering) the strip. And the gum at the bottom _will_ stick to the drive. You can remove it later, hopefully, using and ESD mattress although I never used one and never had issues... It is like a non-sticky gum, you'll be fine removing it later, just be patient.

This was the one board i had on my list originally. Then I looked at the Asus TUF Gaming X670E-Plus then i was curious about the X670E-E. After looking at them all I really think this one is best bang for the bucks. its only the overkill VRMs, the extra PCIe 5 storage slot and USB transfers on the X670E-E that doubles the price. so I think I have come full circle and seems to have all the features anyone could need. What does everyone else think? BTW great reviews Laurent :)

Laurant - there is some misinformation in your test about this board regarding the S-ATA ports. Did you even test them? They DO NOT Support Raid modes - and they are connected to an ASMedia 1061 Controller - per 2 Connectors one AS1061. That means, that these ports only get you 400 MB/s Read/write on connected S-ATA SSDs as the ASMedia 1061 only runs at PCI-E 2.0 X1 and are therefore limited. You need to mention this as this limits the useability of those S_ATA Ports. Asus did cheap out here on the chipset for the SATA-Controller in order to implement a 4th M.2 slot. The board is a good one - but if you have S-ATA SSDs you want to use, avoid it.

@@Laurentschoice I just the bought B650e motherboard and something that is missing on your video and this TUF x670E has; The full bandwith of 4 NVME + PCIe x16. While it's great to have 2 PCIe 5.0 NVME it just make it worse by making the GPU half the bandwith, most people won't notice/care but seeing reviews up to 20fps difference on high fps and building a near top system it just doesn't make sense for me unfortunately.
