History lesson for the Drunk Dads; Japan's military was dismantled after the war and limited to a defensive-only force per the terms of surrender. This was underscored in the movie with the Takao and the 4 disarmed destroyers being returned so they could fight Godzilla, and the Shinden (an actual plane under development when the war ended) being the only fighter they could find. The Shinden prototypes made their first test flights literally days before the Hiroshima bombing, and never saw service. The Takao was actually scuttled in the China sea while used for target practice by the US Navy in 1946-47.

Crying at a Godzilla movie was not on my bingo card this year, but damn if it didn't happen. Noriko sure as hell deserved to live, though it's hard to predict what those G-cells are going to do to her body, aside from granting her enhanced regenerative abilities.

This movie makes you feel about all the characters. Each of them has their own reasons to do and talk and they're reasonable. This is what American Godzilla movies are lacking. They only make audiences worry about Godzilla not humans.

It was the best movie of the year. Weve seen Oppenheimer movies before. We never saw a low budget Godzilla movie have an unbelievably good story that happened to have Godzilla in it.

I like the middle dude's reaction on not judging the characters too harshly on their decisions. Making the right choices can be tough, making them under pressure is a completely different animal.

41:58 to fully understand his position, aside of everything already told in the movie, he spent the whole war fixing/building flying coffin for his compatriots. Only this scene was the first time the pilot he sent to war actually returned safely after accomplishing the mission.

yeah, the black rain was something that scientists noted usually happened after an atomic explosion. mainly because the mushroom cloud takes all that debris so high in the air and usually forces rain to occur.

The 20mm on Odo island might have actually done something. G didn't start regenerating or get his breath weapon until the Bikini Atoll nuke test they showed which made him also get that much bigger. So his guilt is very founded. And I think this was the most well earned happy ending ever.

Actually, IIRC, the director confirmed that Godzilla would have survived the 20mm because it has its healing factor before the nuke. It's healing factor is the reason it survived the nuke.

Godzilla only attacked originally because they shined a bright light into his eyes. The director confirmed that Godzilla knew that Shikishima was sitting in the plane and let him be because he wasn't attacking. If anyone is at fault it's that idiot that shot Godzilla in the face with his rifle.

I wasn't expecting Noriko to have survived. If the impact of hitting the ground after that shockwave from the Atomic Breath didn't kill her, the radiation surely would have. It was a very pleasant surprise that she was still alive, don't get me wrong.

After the nuclear test at Bikini Atoll, Godzilla molted, shedding skin that floated away, potentially affecting injured sea creatures with his skin cells. Throughout the films, whenever Godzilla used his atomic blast, he sustained damage, leaving him with charred skin. In the Ginza ruins, news reports indicated that some of Godzilla’s irradiated skin or meat was found at the scene. Noriko wasn't the only survivor; anyone affected by Godzilla’s fallen skin also regenerated, which explains why she wasn't severely injured in the hospital. Additionally, Shikishima's rapid recovery from head trauma and the scuffled reunion with Tachibana were minor details suggesting he was exposed to the irradiated black rain. While, the Kid remained in an arm sling since the boat chase scene. Finally, “Shin Godzilla” (2016) was set to get a sequel, but it was shelved due to a contractual agreement with Legendary Pictures. If Toho decides to continue with the “Godzilla Minus One” story arc, they would need to address the effects of the G-cells, particularly on Noriko, the other survivors, and any creatures coming into contact with Godzilla's healing skin cells.
