Yes I just installed my flow max+ on my car as well and I have port and a 450 lpfp. I should be getting it re-tuned for these soon and turn the boost up 🙇🏾

Lol. I got 17Ts. I am from WA. Got my 335i on Dyno. The only difference between is that I run only Ron 98. Had dyno yesterday, I was pushing 442whp and 680 nm torque at the wheels. Just got my custom tune by Ken and torque just hitted 750Nm.

450whp on pump fuel is pretty good going man! The 17ts are capable of well over 600whp when you push them, incredible considering what they cost.

Alex and us have the 2 fastest N54 setups on youtube for what they are hehe. There is a reason Alex is one of the few other N54 youtubers i watch. I get a bit disheartened with all the guys on youtube who make videos and give "advice" then have slow cars.... Top tip, if they ain't got dragy numbers to back up their build, they probably dont know what they are doing.... that can be said for a lot of shops and professional mechanics too mind you.

If u are impressed with these DAW turbos, u haven't seen the Hydra Performance HP800 turbos. By far the best turbos out there for any N54 platform and super reliable and durable. Even the shrouds/housings are much larger than the DAW "Stock" shrouds. HP800's are rated for over 800whp. My car makes around 620whp on them and still have much ways to go which they can easily make and handle.

@@ZeroTo60Tube Last i did some pulls was quite a while back, with typical traction issues. I managed a clean pull with 5.8 100-200. I should be re-running some new times now i'm adding a methanol kit and should be able to add boost... Where i live i only have access to 98oct pump gas. No E85, nothing...

@@ZeroTo60Tube 135i and running a complete E92 M3 rear subframe, and complete front M3 arms and steering rack... Them hydras are amazing! Looking to increase boost soon and run new times! I really love ur builds.. This channel is by far one of my favs! Thank you for the amazing content! The creator of the hydra turbos is a good buddy of mine, and has already sold a lot of them all over the globe with amazing reviews from everyone that has them on their car... He is also a professional custom tuner... I hope the DAWs do what u are looking for. A bit interested to see what they will do on a full weight car.

@@andrebassila3602 Ohhh man 135i with a good suspension setup. Thats not fair, try not to go too fast, you're gonna be hard to keep up with haha. I really havent heard or seen much about the hydras from anyone with a decent reputation. The N54 platform is full of a lot of opinions that really can't be relied on, which is why i just wanted to know about your dragy time. In fact it kinda sucks but some many people give me advice and then you find out their car is slow af. A dragy time tells so much more about your setup, than a dyno number or an opinion.... anyway rant over haha. You have one quick car. Please keep me updated with your progression with them. Keen to see you in the 4 second bracket on that 100-200 dragy run.

Nice video man, very informative. Been debating on going with DAW stage 2+ or pure600s. May look at these too now. Not looking for anything crazy as it’s my daily, maybe around 400-500whp.

I went pure600s a few months ago and so far I love them. For 450-500hp they should do you perfectly. I'm going for 550whp with a custom tune but haven't gotten a tune yet, just running bef and jb4 map 7 right now.

@@kami8418 I've put about 8k miles on the Pure600s since they were installed last October and so far not a single issue. I Dyno'd at 501 wheel while getting my custom tune on E30. Need to do port injection or meth to go any higher safely but I'm pretty happy where it is. Any higher and I'd have traction issues.

Last time I spoke with Shawn from DAW he mentioned he gets the 825rs ones from a company called Melett. So I'd dare say these are something new from them.

I have the DAW stage 2+ on my car and so far I’m impressed. I haven’t had a chance to use them to their full potential because I’m chasing a timing correction on cylinder five which may be injector seal or injector related. But once I remedy that I should be able to turn up the boost and really see what these turbos are going to do. Then off to the dyno.

Cyl 5&6 run the hottest and are almost always the ones that misfire. A port or direct meth injection might be required at higher boost. But if you’ve ruled out plugs and coils, then the only other thing is the injector itself or the seal.

@@TML34 So true. And there’s also the dual mass flywheel vibration that triggers the knock sensors on 5 and 6. But I only have corrections on 5 so hopefully it’s just a seal and not the injector. That’s way cheaper. 😀

Low side, high side fuel pressure, STFT, LTFT, AFRs should be logged with the timing corrections. If your HPFP is running down below 1500psi the DME will pull timing as failsafe to avoid damage. You need PI or Spool Helix for DAWs, they move CFMs. Next see if you know someone with an oscilloscope to do a synchronized relative compression test so you can compare 5 with the rest of the cylinders. Finally check spark plug gaps, run car hard for a little while and then let it idle for 10 minutes and shut off and a couple hours later check spark plug for leaky injector. This is why I am Alex's panic button on his car.

@@igotaction Oh yes, I’ve checked everything and I’m also FBO with the helix 3x overdrive so fuel pressure is not a problem. Plus it’s a Z4 which has a better lpfp so my rail pressure on wot doesn’t fall below 2000. My car has 59,000 miles so I’m certain it doesn’t have compression issues and my lambdas don’t fluctuate or hang after throttle closing so it doesn’t point to a leaky injector. My gut feeling is a bad injector seal or just a bad injector because the corrections are in the higher rpms.

I have a question, I know you guys are pushing to the limit, but in my country, Hong Kong, you know it is a tiny city, no straight road pushing to >250km/h. If for street "racing" occasionally, ( not really racing you know what I mean ), which turbo would you prefer?

It’s a very hard question to answer because everyone prefers a different power curve. The flowmax plus turbos are a great balance.

I have the DAW 775RS with no issues for two years. I also worked on Alex's car a bit he had me do some coding, installed his stage 3 LPFP and wired his meth injection kit. All things considered price, quality/reliability, CFMs, I think DAW are the best VALUE anywhere in the N54 turbo market IMHO.

@@ZeroTo60Tube negative, for me it doesn't make sense to take the chance. I spend a decent amount of time trying to research best value components and personally know enough China turbo QC issues to not bother. Totally understand others having opposite opinion. Also worth noting the Zf branded 6HP21 was made at a plant in China, they for sure can make quality stuff however unless the factory is pumping out huge numbers for major manufacturer like Zf, the QC is not worth their time.

Nah i totally get it, these are so much better built than a china, i bet there arent many people out there that have held both in their hands and have enough of an understanding to appreciate the difference. On the same note these feel like racing product, and just like a racing engine, i feel they are going to need more maintenance, more care in the setup of the motor and so on. They probably wouldn't suit most of the budget builders out there. These belong to the guys changing the oil every time they give the car a hard time at the track. The guys who know when something sounds off with the motor, the guys who actually understand how everything in the build works.

@@ZeroTo60Tube I would agree with FlowMax but not the 775RS. The 775s still have the billet wastegate flapper arm but are basically a stock housing same build quality though. I have had most of the DAW lineup in my hands and I install these for living and so I don't feel comfortable installing something I think is going to fail and make some regret their choice and blame me for not talking them out of it. I just won't do it. Didn't mean to come across snooty, I just want to do safe reliable builds, accompanying fuel upgrades have to go with air upgrades, quality parts, stuff like that. I tell customers you can go cheap but only so cheap otherwise it can get really expensive.

I was under the impression the only difference was the wheel size? Oh and let us know what you think of the 6HP28. I think its great that swap is finally happening, in Australia our Ford Flacons with that trans are doing 7 second passes now, so heaps of drag racing potential. In the interest of making my life hard, i really want to ZF8 swap a N54 tho.

@@ZeroTo60Tube YES! A ZF8 would be AWESOME! But I really love your DCT trans. Do you think there's any advantage to the ZF8 (if it could be done) or the 6hp28 over the DCT? I presume it can handle more power, but beyond that, any real advantage? DCT just seems like it'd be more fun.

keen on the # output for these DAWs. Curious to know if you would someday review ball bearing n54 specific. NOZ turbo formally Marshall turbo from the UK are ball bearing n54 specific hybrid twins which tuned out more power than pure stage 2 from dyno here in NSW. there are kinugawa/mamba ball bearings for n54 but no dyno results i can find.

You are looking at a manifold that can be seperated but actually not removing it? :-D Would be cool if you remove the manifold from the turbine housing and measure the actual size. Very interesting.

I wanted to run DAW's but thier description recommended the tear's of dinosours to run them and not void any warranty. Thier disclaimer was pretty strict to not void the warranty so I stayed away. Also alot of turbos claim to be "very reliable" than others.

Yeah man, I think he’s had enough of people not setting cars up properly and blaming the turbos. These are much more precise than chinas and will need to be treated accordingly.

Even on a 19T I imagine most people are limited by other factors like the crappy head flow. I had to limit my GCs to 29 psi. They could have made more.

@J B Yep. No port or overdrive hpfp, just good old stage 2 lpfp and a simple charge pipe meth injection. 20 psi max and it just flies.

looks like a pretty square corner in that collector area radiusing that "collecter" looks like it should flow alot better than just the squared edge of the machined bore, i bought a 335i but the mrs fell in love with it while her car is off the road so looking at getting another one of a f01 740i for my self, havent seen many modded or any honestly should have pretty similar performance to the 335i besides the extra 200kg weight or is there something diffrent about them compaired to the 3 series?

@@ZeroTo60Tube i did some more research and seems there isnt a easy way to tune it like a 335i unfortunately so still tossing up betwen the 740 and the 335 i do like the 7 series a bit more personally though, there are companys offering chips/flashs but they are not letting there code out

You mentioned the 11 blade wheels having faster spool time than the 6+6. Is there any benefit to the 6+6 over the 11 blade?

6+6 should have more top end. They are also a slightly lighter where. I havent driven china 11 blades, just going off what JB said with the 1M. i was quite happy with my 6+6 17T spool.

My thoughts are at 20psi you are just touching the surface of an N54, so you can get away with saving a lot of money on a build and i would go with chinas. In fact 20 psi, stock high pressure fuel system, walbro 460 in the tank inlets, DCIs and flex tune and it would be a bloody nice setup. For about 2-3 months when you go...... "hmmm i wonder what it would be like at 22psi" and so on hahah

Not sure if that's the consensus, china turbos run fine up to 27psi and have heard of some people pushing the 19t's to 30 psi. The consensus might be if you don't plan on going above 20psi, the stock turbos are ok.

@@motodigitalvideo i will add to this a little. A stock turbo wont make 20psi at 6500rpm, so they are limited in that sense. When giving advice, I think the 17ts are great up to that 20psi number on any fuel. They arent really working that hard, fuel system is gonna be sweetish and cylinder temps will be ok and the car is gonna munch a lot of other cars on the street.That said with a good fuel system, i think the china turbos will happily make 600hp at the crank relatively reliably. Not stressing anything too much at those levels (if ethanol fuelling is there). Regardless of boost numbers if you get pumping 700hp at the crank thats when china turbos are really out of efficiency and things are going to be getting a little too hot. You can negate this with certain oil types, additional cooling etc. But i think its a matter of time for a turbine wheel to melt and fall off or a rod to bend. i kind of feel the stock rods will bend first tho. On the same note, i run mine past 700hp nearly every time i drive it...... YOLO

Pretty sure my turbos are on their way out. Thinking of going these, dont really wanna do port injection just yet Would you recommend running these on say 400ish HP, then doing port injection and getting their full value out of them ? What's the cost in Aud for the flow max plus ?

Over 3k aid for flow max plus but allow $5k the time you have done gaskets, outlets and all the other bit to fit turbos. No pi you won’t be stretching the legs on the turbos much. Non plus for the slightly quicker spool. And get saving up for pi so you’re ready for 650-700hp. The flow max plus are kinda crazy, I still can’t believe how fast the car was, it’s almost too much for a street car.

You can. But there is a huge issues with flow at higher power levels. You wouldnt want to be running much more than 350-400hp at the crank with stock cats. Things will get hot and melt pretty quickly past that.

No sir don't run these with stock downpipes you can't even have secondary cats, even a full straight pipe OEM exhaust. Only a real 3.0 inch full pipe or vrsf street or race version

Interesting, does make you wonder if they are getting the castings all made in the same place. The VTT, RB and DAW put their wheels and CRHA in them.

Either way though the Vargas F-RB‘s are amazing turbos! I do have a set of them on my car and they have been everything Vargas said they would be. These also look promising as well. Maybe it could be a plus for all of us if the CHRA go out in either brand they could be interchangeable 😂

You can literally tighten the wastegate Alan keys up mark them with a sharpie and that is enough to be considered assembled in America. Shawn will never fool me again with his China turbos that are rebalanced

Most that I know of were do to not upgrading the pcv causing it to not drain fast enough and pushing oil past the seals but I have seen some size too, there are a lot but.... they also sold alot just like you can find 1000s of people with issues on their iPhone l. Doesn't mean iPhone are bad just means they made a lot and more of a product means some will fail. But the biggest issue is support, luckily you have direct contact with the owner but there are many post to where he won't reply or just drags it out... so the service is not spectacular and thats probably from demand being higher then thought of

@@scarface16134 Shawn is really disheartened with the failures and i get where he is coming from. There is so much left up to the installer even though he gives a bloody novel to guide you on the install. One thing i did notice with these after actually handling them, which shawn never mentioned the tolerance in the journal bearing is much more like a garret journal bearing turbo. Where the chinas are sloppy. You would think sloppy is bad, but it gives a much larger tolerance for different oils. Where using the right oil and making sure you have the drain working is very important on these. It feels like there will physically be less oil in the journal bearing, than the chinas. So i can see how some people will have issues if they arent on the ball. These feel more like a racing product, which is what they are i guess. And a race engine needs a lot more love than a normal one thats just pumped out on the cheap. I do know of a set failing due to one turbo not working (wastegate rod circlip was missing) and the owner was driving around with only one turbo making the boost. That's such a shitty situation, did a 1 cent circlip fail, was it missing, should the installer have noticed, should the owner have stopped driving when the car would only make 16-18psi. It's easy to blame the turbos, but its not really the turbos fault very often. Regardless, i am looking forward to running ours as hard as the rods in the vargas car will take. hehe

@@ZeroTo60Tube unfortunately no ,I ended up getting into an argument with my client ,anxiety is killing him and I can’t deal with that kind of stuff ,but by driving the car i could tell they flow way better and not only that ,his car is runnig out of fuel at 18psi on 93 oct ,rail os crashing to 1000 with 2 walbro450s in the tank 😩,he is getting port injection and all but that car is out of my channel im almost deleting the video

I still can’t believe how quick times was with only one turbo working. No wonder that rear one melted, was putting some work in. Wastegate was stuck open on the front one in case you didn’t know.

@@tighematthew The cir clip was missing that holds the rod on the flapper. Did the cir clip fail? Did it get knocked during installation? Was it missing completely? No body knows........ but definitely not what i would call a flawed design, that cir clip is the same on every n54 twin turbo. A 1 cent part and difficulties diagnosing was Tim's issue.

@@tighematthew i will add to this, so you know. These are not toys. These feel like a racing product. You wouldn't get away with sloppy installs, the wrong oil etc like you can with china ones. These are built to be raced, and treated like a race part. It feels like there is much less room for oil in the journal bearing, which will make the compressor more accurate, seal better in the housing and essentially make more boost. But you don't get that extra play that helps people who are lazy on setups or not doing things properly.

​@Burnt PePPeroni The N54 platform for years has been full of "accountants" or people with minimal mechanical understanding giving opinions online that are often very wrong and unfortunately it has built a generation of enthusiasts that really dont have much of an understanding due to how they have learnt about modding making cars go fast. I often remind myself when reading comments of a quote some clever person told me years ago "we don't know, what we don't know". Until you have put together a single turbo kit, that will get the car down a track fast, a good dragy time and not catch the car on fire and last a few thousand k's of daily driving use, you wont know the true cost.
