Excellent list Paul! I wouldn’t really consider The Ironsides as a jazz album. They’re billed in the Soul Genre and call themselves cinematic soul, but nevertheless, great album! The album from the Finnish band sounds fantastic!

I find it difficult to label the music of The Ironsides. They mix cinematic qualities with soul and jazz. Interesting. Not that I mind, but for me, only #7 was a jazz record, maybe #4. Not because it is inspired by 60ies free jazz, as you said, but because all the others, if even jazz are more something else than jazz. I heard funk, downtempo, house, instrumental hip hop maybe. ANyways, I guess it all is in the eye of the beholder, so at least, it is interesting to me to see how others view jazz. Cheers, Paul

Hey Stunty! Part of the blame is me, I prefer to have a groove in my jazz. The selection clearly shows my preference. Maybe it were Ramsey Lewis and Cannonball Adderley who made jazz more popular by adding soul to the mix. That opened the door or some say closed the door ;) Thanks for the comment. All the best.
