Rao's was bought by Campbell's last year and the quality of their sauce has deteriorated. I saw people complaining online about the taste now, but I didn't give it too much thought. I opened a newly purchased jar of Rao's marinara last week. It tasted fine at first but then left a distinct Chef Boyardee after taste. Suddenly I remembered the recent online comments I saw. They were accurate 😔

@@beckyneveu7568 Apparently Campbell's have changed the recipe when they bought the company. It smells the same and on first bite tastes the same but then there is an undeniable super sweet sugary tomato sauce taste, similar to Chef Boyardee ravioli sauce. I'm so disappointed because Rao's was so good.

@@snowcattish I've noticed almost a weird bitter aftertaste to it now? Especially the vodka sauce which I used to adore. Now I'm wondering if I'm just not as good at noticing sweet part but once it fades it makes the savory stuff I usually actually like taste bitter in comparison. No idea if there's any sense to that but I guess whatever the taste change is now I know why. :(

I've always thrown it away. Absolutely do not pour it down any drain, and don't put it in the compost. Unless it's strictly vegetable oil that's never touched an animal product, then you can put a VERY small amount into your compost (like, we're talking a paper towel or two that was used to mop up a spill). Otherwise, bury it, burn it, or bin it.

I keep Classico spaghetti sauce jars (Do you have them in the US?). Mason jar lids for them and they can be used for canning. I use them for my chicken stock, and freeze them. When i get too many, I post 5 jars for free on FB Marketplace. I usually have multiple requests!

My favorite store bought soup is Panera Bread’s creamy wild rice and chicken soup. Hits every time. For homemade soups, no soup trumps my grandma’s chicken soup with potatoes (lovingly nicknamed “Magic Soup” because it cures all ailments and sets you right when you’re not feeling so good ❤).

Panera soup comes in plastic tubs where I live and is in the deli section, and the autumn soup is seasonal both in the store and the restaurant. I'm with Link on pea soup being better than broccoli cheese.
